Project Life 2017 Week 21 | ft. Amy Tangerine Hustle & Heart!!!

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my process video for my 2017 Project Life layout Week 21. The digital layout was created in Photoshop using the Memory Pockets Monthly May kit called Fling, available at the link below. I then embellished the layout in this video, using Amy Tangerine’s brand new collection called Hustle & Heart!

Our stories this week included my happy blooms on the front porch, Addison’s awards ceremony as he graduates from middle school, and the girls having some fun with paint and fiber!

Always the best place to start – the date card. Mine is almost always at the top left hand corner, so let’s take a look!

I used one of the add-on papers from Allison Pennington as the base for this card, and then added the hexagons from the May Fling kit prior to printing. Then I added my week number using the Amy Tangerine alphabet and I also added a few stamps. Very uncomplicated.

I love this photo of our rich purple blooms on the porch, so I enlarged the photo for the layout here. The photo had this fantastic white space from the corner of the house, so I layered some embellishments there. Stamps first, then the die cut, and then gold glitter. That is a great formula for an embellishment cluster!

I am continuing to include typed journaling and hand-written journaling on my pages, and love the added words on my pages. This was an important week for us, I felt like, as some days the whole blended family thing leaves us feeling unsure, not good enough, or any other number of hard emotions! But then there are days like this, where our kids succeed and we as parents take ownership of their successes too! We helped them achieve the success in their lives and so I am incredibly proud of all of us. This is definitely a great way to document and celebrate that and I am so glad for Project Life!

I love using a wood grain as a back drop for another filler card. For this one I gathered the ephemera from Hustle & Heart to bring in all the colors – yellow, navy, and pink. All my favorites, ya’ll!

Here is a closer look at the right hand side!

Ok, so I know everyone always wants to know what is the must-have product, when American Crafts releases new collections? I will be the first to insist that you run, don’t walk, to grab the brand new enamel pin stickers!!! I could not wait to open them and used this Lucky one right away.

In other flower news, our hydrangea bloomed and we are surprised and excited about that too! We had a really late freeze last spring and the hydrangea and the gardenia were not very happy about it. But they have proven to be resilient! I don’t know how we have managed to keep our flowers so happy in our little yard, but they are doing great and I love including them in my layouts.

Did you notice my tiny blooper on my printed layout? When I created the layout, there was a text block on this floral card and I forgot to either remove it or add text, so just random text was printed there! No worries, I added this die cut over top with a puffy heart and no one ever knows.

One more simple calendar card, which I have highlighted using a regular old office staple, my trusty highlighter!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

Today I am embellishing the cover and inside cover, and oh my gosh I love this part!!! I hope you will too!

I am so excited to share with you the completed cover! It seriously turned out awesome!

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 03

On the transparency cover I used some Basic Grey alphas that I have had in my stash for a few years now. They are from the Konnichewa collection and I thought they were perfect with just a tiny bit of grunge and a pop of red. I sewed on the numbers using red thread and then repeated the red as a seam between the patterned paper and transparency.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 03

For now I have it tied with a simple white bow, kind of like a tuxedo, as the cover is still a little bowed. I am calling that charm. The album has charm.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 03

The chipboard acts as an inside cover and is visible from the front, so the deer is partially visible when the album is closed. He is from Maggie Holmes Bloom collection. Once you open the cover, he is adorably posed along with a few stars and the very merry stamp from Ali Edwards. He contrasts beautifully against the white paint on the chipboard.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 03

I cannot wait to get started on the actual pages of this album! The cover has been so much fun and I know the rest will come together magically as well. Thanks for following along!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

I thought I might go back in time to 2011, the very first Christmas Alan and I were together (awwww!!) and make an album for that December. I have photos, although they are not *daily,* and of course lots of stories to tell from that year. Today I am creating the album itself, and for the next two days I will share that complete process with you.

Creating this album for some reason ended up being quite the process, as you can tell from my video! Eventually we will make it to this as the cover:

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

But first, the process. I said it several times in the video but let me write it here as well: I want us all to feel free to try, and then try again until we get it the way we want it, no matter what it is. It is part of the artistic process and I know we get so caught up in the final product sometimes, that we forget the trial and error that happens first! And as a designer who creates to share, I will freely admit I am often afraid to share the whole trial and error process, because I too am afraid of judgment or failure.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

My design concept for this album began with three chipboard pieces that are designed to make up a mini album. I know that I want to add transparencies as a cover, along with patterned papers for the binding.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

I punched my holes (three times in all to get the dimension right!) using this older tool by a scrapbook company from way back when (2004-ish!) called Making Memories. It’s a grommet and eyelet setter and it came with different size punches and a tool to set your grommets with. This was back before the Big Bite or the Crop-A-Dile, and yes, it is fun to pound out your holes with that little hammer!

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

Once I had my holes punched, I adhered my transparency pieces to the patterned papers using redline tape. The transparencies are sandwiched in between the two papers and this creates the structure of this cover.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

And this is what the album looks like at this point. Tomorrow I will share with you how I selected all the papers and page protectors for each page inside the album, and then I will share how I embellished the cover for the album!

Also, because I love you and want you to have fun making this album (if you decide to!), here is a simple sketch showing my actual dimensions of the final, functional album!

{December Daily 2016} December 23, 24 & 25! This Is It!!!

Hi and welcome to my final December Daily 2016 process! I am so excited to finish up this project, and just as in previous years, I am delighted with the end results. Have a look at my process for the last three days:

Beginning with December 23, this was my Foundation Page:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

This is the completed layout. My story for today was about going to the movies. The girls went to see Sing and the boys saw Rogue One!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

My photo was taken after the movies, when we took them all to eat dinner at McDonald’s. For us this was our Christmas Eve, so don’t let the laid back smiles fool you – they are excited and thrilled!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

The middle pockets are almost the same as before – one pocket is sealed with sequins inside, and I attached the numbers to their card. They are from Teresa Collins a few years ago. I also added a stamped sentiment and one tiny sequin star, both from the Ali Edwards main kit.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

I realized I needed space for journaling on this layout, so I changed out the journaling card here. The background paper is from an old Gossamer Blue kit from probably two years ago, and the grid I layered over it is the back of one of Ali Edwards’ cards in her main kit this year. I finally got to use this awesome red acrylic snowflake which was in the 2015 December Daily main kit, and I layered word stickers from Freckled Fawn on top.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

Here is one more look at this layout inside the album:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

For December 24th I had left the foundation pages fairly empty because I knew we would be opening gifts that day and I wanted to leave lots of room for photos. I ended up finalizing the last two days using Sahlin Studio Santa’s Workshop, here:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

My layout for this day is a full 12×12 spread with a transparency in between.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

On the left hand side of this layout I have one photo plus two filler pockets that I created using cards and elements from Sahlin Studio Santa’s Workshop. The glitter tape is Heidi Swapp and makes the whole page sparkle!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25

My photo is a simple snapshot of the kids in front of the tree. This is a tradition that I have continued for several years now and is a must-have for our December Daily album.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25

The transparency is from Ali Edwards and was one of the promotional give-aways that was sent to a certain number of people who pre-ordered in time, back in September. Even though it is 6×8, the holes lined up perfectly and allow for space at the bottom to add more photos.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

Here you can see how it layers beautifully over the photo of the Christmas tree. The transparency itself has tiny white stars and I have layered sequin stars over top using a glue pen, just to add a little more sparkle to the page.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

This is the back side of the transparency and the opposite side of this layout:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

One of the things I always stress about working with transparencies is to not be overly stressed about the back. You can probably tell that the numbers are adhered with tiny glue dots, and it really is ok. I did add the Merry & Bright banner to hide the pop dots and the banner that is on the front.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

For the right side of the layout I created a flip-up so I could include photos of us opening presents and also more journaling. The large tree photo is a great focal point of the layout, and I love that it lifts up to tell us more.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

The template underneath is from Paislee Press and is available at The Lilypad, right here: Paislee Press Photocentric No. 01. (direct link, opens in new window) I simply adore the simplicity. There are 14 photos in all included on this layout!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25!

Finally, we come to December 25. Here is the Foundation Page, created using Sahlin Studio Santa’s Workshop:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25!

This is the left hand side, completed:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25!

We had a very quiet day that day, since Nick and Natalie were back at their Dad’s and it was just the four of us here. We played with toys and watched movies and ate lots of food! My photos were all actually taken on the 24th, of the kids playing together and hanging out.

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

In the past I have always ended my December albums with the presents and all that, which actually makes for an abrupt ending. I love having space this year to include these photos and a few more thoughts to round out the whole book.

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

My numbers 2 and 5 are from Ali Edwards and are layered on top of patterned paper from Sahlin Studio Santa’s Workshop. The glittered star is Freckled Fawn. Here a look at this layout in the album itself:

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

The opposite side of this layout is a really cute photo of the girls wearing their slippers they got under the tree.

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

The center pockets remained unchanged from the foundation pages. One journal card from Sahlin Studio with wood veneer stars layered on top from Studio Calico. One transparent card from Pinkfresh Studio and a cork tree from Freckled Fawn layered on top. So simple.

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

For my journaling I wrote about our quiet day and added one single word strip to the top, and this layout is complete.

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

The very last page in the album is on the back of the 25th. I chose a single photo of our tree taken with bokeh effect and a few word strips layered on top.

{December Daily 2016} December 23%2C 24 %26 25! This Is It!!!

And just like that, December Daily Vol. 09 is complete! I will do a final walk-thru video in the next few days and then regular schedule and layouts will resume. I hope you have a very Happy New Year!

~Theresa
