New Series | Building a Brand With PTSD, Depression, and Other Mood Disorders

Hello Lovelies, this is a new series I want to share with you on my personal journey of building a brand from the ground up while coping with chronic mental illness. I am not a medical professional and therefore do not offer medical advice, only stories of my personal journey in hopes that others might be inspired as well. Mental illness lies to us every day, and it is my hope through sharing my stories, my truths, that you might find hope and strength too. Thank you for being here!

Larkindesign Building A Creative Brand With Mood Disorders

Today I thought I would just write a few notes to you, just from my heart. This week has been a learning week for me, and I feel some changes are on the horizon, so I want to share a little more about that. Ultimately my goal here at Larkindesign is to inspire you, dear friend, and empower you in your creative life. I truly believe we can be our best selves when we are our best creative selves. But creativity takes an inevitable toll. It costs us something – an emotional cost, if you will.

I know that many of us turn to creative ventures in an effort to calm chaos and/or to express things within ourselves that maybe have no words. Sometimes we just need to get away and work with scissors and papers just to have fun. Most of us in the scrapbooking world are here because we treasure our memories enough to record them, document them, and curate them. So much value in creative work, and also a cost. Yes, it costs money, but it also costs us energy and time. Sometimes in the social sharing world it can cost us perspective too!

For the past three years I have been sharing my own work here and have been slowly building a brand. I have made so many beautiful friendships and have connected with artists, designers, customers, YouTubers, and bloggers around the world. If you read my Brand Story you will know how this industry helped me stay alive, actually. And all I have wanted to do is give back. So I created content, and videos, and classes, and collections, and have been sharing them here with you. It has been a joy to create products and it has been empowering to grow this little spot on the Internet. It has also come with a tremendous cost. An emotional cost.

I decided this week to stop creating digital collections – maybe just for a little while, I don’t know. I so very much appreciated those of you who have purchased and downloaded the products here, and they will remain up in the Shop if you are still interested. I am also planning to open up a Facebook group for Hybrid Project Lifers, and am excited to get that going. Growing a brand is really hard work, and it takes years. It also takes seeing what works and what doesn’t, what brings joy and what doesn’t, and being constructive enough to tell what you do well and what you don’t do well. Your feedback and your responses really help in that regard, so thank you every time you have told me my work is beautiful.

As I have shared in the LD Brand Story, I function every day with the remnants and in the midst of trauma recovery. I don’t know that I will ever recover fully, and I do know that I will always cope with it on some level. What happened to me as a child and in my 20’s had a profound impact on me, as I continue to work through that, and as such it has an impact on my business as well. I want to share a bit about that because I know I must not be alone in this. If you are trying to run a business with trauma and PTSD and depression or any other emotional challenge, please know you are not alone. Please reach out to me, to others, because we can be powerful emotional support to each other.

I have learned this week that it is incredibly hard for me to see the beauty in my own projects and products that I create. Abuse does this thing to you – it breaks trust. People who abused me told me things to make me believe things about myself or to make me do things that broke boundaries, and as a child I believed what they told me. What they told me, however, was designed to manipulate me and control me, so the horrible things they told me became truths, and the good things they told me were lies. I have had to fully realize that any time some one is communicating with me, my inner child is not trusting what they are saying. In fact, the voices of my childhood are often much louder and much more insistent that the voice of the present, and that means it sometimes drowns out the good I am hearing now.

I realized several years ago that this truth meant that any relationship I have ever had has been impacted by this – because when someone says they love me I am not fully able to hear that. Now, when someone says my work is lovely, again I am not fully able to hear it. I am working on this within myself, because I deserve to hear good things about myself and I deserve to believe good things about myself. And please, continue to provide feedback because it is important for me and for our community. And again, I know I am not alone so whenever you leave feedback you might be telling someone who really needs to hear that today. Feedback is so very important! If you are a Creative, you may feel similar ways as well. It can be hard to hear the good things about ourselves, or to trust the good things we are hearing about ourselves, because of our past trauma or depression. I strongly encourage you to reach out to professionals and to others who are understanding, to help in your journey.

Larkindesign Building A Creative Brand With PTSD, Depression, and Other Mood Disorders

I have also learned just how important it is in our community to raise each other up. There are designers and creatives here who pour their hearts into everything that we consume – the products we purchase, the Feeds we scroll, the videos we view. So I am committing to making a part of my work lifting others up however I am able. I welcome your feedback on ways to make that possible, and would love to hear from you in that regard. I also plan to open a Facebook group for Hybrid Project Lifers and hope you will join that and participate there. Thank you for being here, thank you for supporting me and for being part of our amazing community. Sending you creative vibes and energy wherever you are.

Love,

Theresa

July Release | Larkindesign Digital Collection Life In Full Bloom!!!

Hello Lovelies, and Happy July to you! I am so excited to release my July collection called Life In Full Bloom! And, you guys, I am especially thrilled to have created a traveler’s notebook kit as well this month. I have had so many requests for a traveler’s notebook kit and I hope you all enjoy using it!

Inspired by the unique, avant garde art of the Bloomsbury group in the early 1900’s, this collection is the right combination of colorful, fun, and hip! When I was growing up I was heavily inspired by Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf, Duncan Grant, et al, and have long wished to create some art that invokes their free, uninhibited lifestyle. I have drawn from their color palette but added my own twist so it still coordinates with the Larkindesign collections. My hand drawn elements and patterns make me so happy and I hope they will inspire you to create!

Included in this bundle are (12) 3×4 journal cards, (8) 4×6 journal cards, (10) patterned papers, and (2) sheets of printable elements designed to print and cut. The Traveler’s Notebook includes (10) notebook scaled patterned papers and the (2) sheets of printable elements. I have also designed a really cool set of photo templates for your traveler’s notebook layouts!

All files are sized at 300ppi for best printing. Click on the product below to purchase! For the month of July, receive 20% off your purchase.

50 First Layouts | Love You Always ft Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide

Hello lovelies, today I am sharing this fun scrapbook layout using Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide collection plus a Silhouette cut file from Paige Evans!

Have a look at this fun layout!

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Love You Always ft Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide

My photo, and therefore the story of this layout is about Nick and the time back in February that we went to the vintage arcade in Winston Salem. I chose a selfie we took on that day together as the starting point for this layout.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Love You Always ft Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide

I absolutely love this cut file from the Silhouette store designed by Paige Taylor Evans. I cut strips of paper to adhere behind the pattern of the cut file. As I laid out the strips I tried to switch up the colors to add variety and texture to this background, and I adore how it turned out! Once the background was complete then I was free to add my photos and embellish.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Love You Always ft Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide

I loved all the textures and colors in the Let Your Heart Decide collection and made a point to include my favorites here! I did use the blue frame to make the photo pop off the background, and then I layered leaves and hearts and my journaling around the photo.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Love You Always ft Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide

I have kept my journaling really simple for this layout. The who, what, where, and when are here at the bottom of the photo, and I added my why near the top of the photo. I kept this so simple for this layout and that is ok!

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Love You Always ft Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide

My title is placed vertically on the layout, which feels somewhat unexpected but I really love it. It does an excellent job to balance the photo on the layout and I loved using those alphabets!

Thanks for joining me today! See you soon!

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layouts ft. Sweet Chicks Digital Collection!!

Hi everyone, today Hannah is on the blog sharing her gorgeous layouts using the Larkindesign Sweet Chicks Digital Collection! Be sure to check out her About Me Page, where you can connect with her on all your favorite social media.

“/>

Aloha!! It’s Hannah with you today. I am completely in love with these patterned papers. I want to print multiple copies of them to use them on all my layouts this month!! I know I sound a bit crazy, but this past month I was in a major scrappy rut, a mix of the rainy chilly weather of the Pacific Northwest and the busyness of the daily grind especially this time of the year. Getting ready for the spring routine and letting go of the winter blues, this collection really helped spark so many ideas and cheer me up. The bright colors are fun and whimsical but easy to use on any kind of layout.

Today I thought I would show you two layouts I made with my kit. Though I made more projects with my kit so keep a look out on my Youtube Channel to see some Project Life and some more ways I used all of the amazing collection.

Here is a look at my first layout. When I seen this collection I immediately thought of this picture I took of a daffodil in my yard. These flowers are finally starting to sprout up and stretch out to the little sun we have had.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I also know that I wanted to create a layout with some stitching with a quilt like type of pattern on it. I have done something similar to this a few times, and it is a lot of work but striking when fully finished. This time I wanted it to be more grid like and only on half of the layout. I also knew I wanted to use a wood grain patterned paper so you would get the full effect of nature. This Crate Paper Here and There wood grain really helps bring out the warm tones of the yellow and orange in the Sweet Chicks patterned Paper

I continued and used a lot more of the Here and There collection. I really love the idea of connecting adventure and exploring the world right around you and this concept of travel. Travel in the sense that you can travel and explore your own backyard, back roads, the world around you if you just change your perception. Change the way you look at this world around you.

That made this collection perfect with my story. My story of explore my yard for the first signs of spring. Something I needed to do to help breathe life into my world of grey and drizzly coolness. This flower is standing tall towards the few sun rays shouting that spring is on it’s way.

I grabbed some of the ephemera and layered it with the Larkindesign elements like tags, labels and banners.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I added a few hints of copper, bringing out the warmth of the collection. I also made sure that the layers behind the photo were similar colors that were in the collection. I used the 6×6 pad from Crate Paper.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I found this chipboard camera from Altenew. It was a similar size as the envelope and I like how it helps balance out the squares underneath. I didn’t want to cover up too much of them, so I stuck with just the camera and a yellow sticker from the Here and There collection. I mixed textures and types of products to help bring contrast against the structure of the stitched squares underneath.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

Bringing in more copper and some bold black puffy stickers I added the title on the squares. I also mixed structure and and almost untidy look to the title by adding the black puffy stickers over the squares and across the middle of the last across. Then adding an arrow. I love how this mimics what happens in nature.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I finished off my layout by adding the date and used a roller phrase stamp. I mixed using white ink and some green ink by Ali Edwards. I like how both these inks stand out just enough to read them, but blend with the colors on the layout. I really wanted it to be a subtle element. I wanted the star of this cluster be the circle patterned banner. It looks so great with the yellow label, teal chipboard heart and the white puffy heart from the Here and There collection.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

What do you do with a bunch of leftover 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 squares of Sweet Chicks patterned paper?! You figure out a fun and creative way to use it up, thats what you do!! With mojo flowing through my veins I decided to be adventurous and fussy cut the green patterned paper from the  Maggie Holmes Flourish collection. This piece had lots of strips of semi circles, that almost look like rainbows. I cut each little section and cut around the semi circles. I laid them out across the outside of some white card stock.

The border still looked a bit empty and bare so I decided to tuck those leftover squares I had from the above layout, since I had some extras. I also used a few of the washi strips from the elements sheet. Having the papers be varying heights really helped to create texture all around the layout.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I am loving the colors from the Sweet Chicks Collection with the Flourish Collection by Maggie Holmes so I grabbed more of those. I decided to grab the April Clique Kits as well because they had some cut elements that I thought would work nicely with the Sweet Chicks Collection. Like the floral green flair and some of their exclusive elements.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I decided to spread all my layered pieces out over top of some white card stock that had a minty teal color acrylic paint just brushed on with a bigger coarse bristle paint brush. When I just want to add a splash of color over a big area in a haphazard way I choose this paint brush. I love the texture I get from the bristles and I love the way the texture from the card stock peaks through the paint because it doesn’t get into all the nooks and crannies.

To help the light paint color stand out I drew on some diagonal lines with a black journaling pen. I really like to use the Pilot Precise V5 pen for layout backgrounds that have paint on them. The ballpoint writes nicely over top without getting jammed or drying out. This diagonal designed was inspired by the dot criss cross pattern in the Sweet Chicks Paper collection. I also think the black brings out the black and white elements and papers in the collection that I used throughout my layout.

Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!Larkindesign Creative Team Hannah Lemieux | April Layout ft. Sweet Chicks!!

I fussy cut a lot of the elements out like these circles to use as embellishment clusters. I think this shows you don’t need a ton of fancy embellishments if you don’t want them. Fussy cutting out cameras and circles from the papers made a lovely layering piece. Top that off with some enamel dots and you have a cheerful background.

The last element I wanted to mention was this coffee cup made with pearler beads.

“/>

It’s no surprise that I am an avid coffee drinker, and of course my kiddos know this too. One time while they were creating pearler bead creations of tons of objects and things, they made me this cute and adorable coffee cup. It just so happens to be my fave colors too. It works so well with this collection and the photo I used that I decided, ‘hey if Suse Fish can add pearler creations to her Project Life I can add one to my layout’!! I made sure I used red line double sided adhesive so that piece isn’t going anywhere, because it is heavy. I love how it adds just another element and texture that I haven’t used before.

So to close off my post for today, I hope you are encouraged to look at the world around you in a new light, a different perspective. What things do you have laying around that help tell your life story that you haven’t thought could work on a scrapbooking layout and try something new. Play with colors. And when you are in a rut, dig deep and search for something that is inspiring you to tell the story of your life.

I hope you check out the Sweet Chicks Paper Collection and the card collections, they are so versatile. Also if you love it you can use it over and over again!! Like I plan to do. Keep a look out on my social media sites for more projects with this collection!!

Until next time Stay Inspired

Hannah

50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!

Hi everyone, today I am continuing my series called 50 First Layouts, where I share a product collection and then create layouts based on those products! I am still working with Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful, and today’s layout is called Hey Good Looking! Check out my process here.

My photo I am working with is of Emberlynn, who is now 13 and she loves the camera! We went to downtown Winston in February to visit a vintage game arcade called Reboot, and I took this photo while she was hanging out in the seating area.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!

Can you tell I am loving this collection? The colors and the icons are awesome! This layout began with the happy little yellow bicycle (did you know Little Yellow Bicycle used to be a scrapbooking brand?!!) and a beautiful photo of Emberlynn.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!

I also chose a Silhouette Cut File from Paige Evans and I have backed these florals with other patterned papers from the collection. You can download this cut file here.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!

I cut two of the floral cut files and adhered one to the top of the page, and the second one to the bottom of the page. My photo is then adhered slightly to the right of those files. Now my embellishments can fill in around the photo.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!

I have also used the Dream On stamp set from Pinkfresh Studio, which I just absolutely adore! The hand drawn rectangles house stamped sentiments and I used the patterned circle to add more interest to my background paper.

Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!Larkindesign 50 First Layouts | Hey Good Looking ft. Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful!!!

I also added a bit of stitching to the layout around the floral elements. I can’t really do much hand stitching because it makes my hands hurt, but I do love to add texture with the machine! I just went randomly around the floral cut files and I also underlined the stamped words at the bottom of the page.

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

Hi everyone, today I am sharing my 2018 Project Life layout for Week 10! I am so excited to use my brand new collection called Sweet Chicks, which is available in the shop right now. I designed this collection with all things sweet in mind – sweet chicks, sweet love, sweet popsicles!

Let’s take a look at this bright, fun layout!

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

Our stories this week included a fun dinner at Sonic where all the kids got completely hyped up on milkshakes, a check-up at the hospital for Addison, date night, the announcement for Clique Kits, and me learning how to use my curling wand.

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

I began the layout with the date card, because it is always a predictable place to dive right in. I’ve used these die cut numbers from Studio Calico to notate the week, and the Pink Paislee alphabet stamps from Pick Me Up for the dates. Very simple and quick!

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

I had these little popsicles from Elle’s Studio and this was the perfect layout to use them on! The colors in my Sweet Chicks collection are happy – yellows, oranges, teals, and pinks dance together and I just adore it.

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

We had a date night, which has been a pretty regular occurrence lately, and always makes me so happy!

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

I had the wood veneer floral from Studio Calico that was used on the back side of this layout, so for this side I simply layered a chipboard embellishment on top of the page protector. I love the texture it adds! I also made a point to include myself in this week’s layout. I have been learning how to use my curling wand (ha!) and took these quick snaps while waiting in the car line one day.

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

For the right hand side I had three photos and the fourth 4×6 pocket is perfect for more journaling. I’ve balanced the bright colors with the black and white in the collection here and just love it!

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

Addison had a health check-up at the hospital this week, so as we were walking from the parking deck I grabbed this snapshot of one of the towers. The sky was beautiful that day! This is a great way to capture these things where you don’t want to invade your teenager’s privacy but still want to document the event.

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

I am absolutely in love with these two cards from the collection! The Love card is also a patterned paper and that will go with anything! And the Say Yes card just makes me insanely happy! So fun!

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

More black and white in the collection, with this Wonky Squares pattern! That was so much fun to design and I’ve added simple dotted lines to journal and a few tiny embellishments.

Sweet Chicks Product Release | 2018 Project Life Week 10 Process Video!!!

I’ve repeated the alphabet stamp here, this time using black ink. This card is perfect for a sentiment, journaling, or embellishing. You pick! I also love this photo: we were at World Market and I looked down at this mirrored coffee table. Definitely a fun perspective!

2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. March Release Grow Deeper Roots!!!

Hi everyone, today I am sharing a layout from my 2018 Project Life album for Week 07. I am using the Larkindesign Grow Deeper Roots collection, available in my shop, and also the Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful collection. Have a look at my process here.

Here is the completed layout.

Larkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper RootsLarkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper Roots

Our stories for this week included Valentine’s Day, NAL competition for Nick, visits to s friends’ house for Addison, date night, and every day life.

Larkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper RootsLarkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper Roots

The left hand side begins with the date card, which is one of the patterned papers from Grow Deeper Roots. I have layered it with a photo template that will be released in April, so stay tuned for that!

Larkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper RootsLarkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper Roots

I decided to pull the purple elements from the kit and love how it looks on the layout. The other colors of pink and teal and light blue add a soft beauty to it.

Larkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper RootsLarkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper Roots

Each month I design two sheets of printable elements to go with the collections. These are tags, labels, and other embellishments you can print and cut using your die cutting machine or just fussy cut if you don’t have a cutting machine. These add the perfect little something to the photos and journaling cards, and I am loving the flat pages right now.

Larkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper RootsLarkindesign 2018 Project Life Week 07 ft. Grow Deeper Roots

I’ve also used a few tiny wood veneer hearts around the page. Those are from Felicity Jane.

The wreath card is from February’s kit, The Heart Is Home. Also notice how I used the green card, but layered purple over it to coordinate best with the layout.

Our Valentine’s Day was celebrated a few days later, as Nick and Natalie were at their Dads on that day. When they got back we gave them their chocolates and gifts, which is what they are doing around the dining room table. They are mildly obsessed with Kinder eggs right now, so that was one of the things they got and I took a photo of one as well. Too funny!

As I was printing my photos and writing out my journaling, if occurred to me this is one of the last times I will pick Nick up from this school! He has been in middle school for three years now and will move on to High School next year. I love capturing these kids right now, in the moment, as they are today.

I love this journaling card so much! Using washi tape to create lines is one of my favorite things to do, and the confetti on the side is just happiness. The hello on the geometric card is from Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful.

One last photo of the toy from the Kinder egg. They are so cute, have you seen them? The eggs have chocolate in them and then a fun little toy that is something for little hands to keep busy, figure out, do something with. They are so cute! The Stories of Home card is also from February’s The Heart Is Home kit.

Thanks for joining me today! See you again soon!

Larkindesign Creative Team Jenn Hutt | March Layouts!!

Hi everyone, today I am excited to have Creative Team member Jenn Hutt on the blog! Be sure to check out her About Me page where you can learn more about her and also connect with her on social media.

Hey ya’ll! I hope this finds you well!

So this month was a little more difficult for me because of a move that has taken way longer than it was supposed to. Long story short, due to circumstances out of our hands, I have had to do most of the move by myself around a school and work commitment, so I haven’t been as crafty as I would like.

But that is the beauty of Theresa’s gorgeous digital collections! I usually do hybrid layouts but this month I decided to go all digital! It was kind of fun doing everything from my computer and it took me way less time then I usually take to complete a project. I am working with the Larkindesign Grow Deeper Roots collection!

I will still probably stick with physical / hybrid layouts… but digital is good in a pinch!

Larkindesign Creative Team Jenn Hutt | March Layouts!!

My first layout is a 12X12 layout about our new house. This picture was taken when I first got the keys, which means that there was still some work to be done. They were finishing the roof, the new garage door had no trim, and the house hadn’t been pressure washed yet… and that’s just on the front of the house. We were still super excited to move in though!

I used one of the 12X12 papers from the March release Grow Deeper Roots. I added a small black across the  middle of the paper in a teal color taken directly from the background paper. I then took my photo and matted it on a purple mat (color directly from the paper as well) before putting it over that teal black. I used one of the digital journaling blocks from the kit and wrote out some small journaling and added “new house” as the title right beside it.

Overall, I like how it looks. It was simple and easy and still something that I can put in my album!

My second project is a single page of a Travelers Notebook spread that I made about a scrappy retreat I went to with my mother-in-law. I took a 3X4 card and resized it to 4.15″X8.15″ to fit the travelers notebook paper. I took a photo of my MIL and I and matted it on a black square before putting it at the top of the paper. I used the same journaling square from my last spread and wrote some quick journaling about the spread and called it good!

I am still getting used to digital. I usually just recolor elements, create journaling cards, and then print everything off to do a hybrid approach! This was fun and new.

I can’t wait to see what I come up with April’s kit, which will be released just around the corner!
