Project Life 2014

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 24 | Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party!!!

Hi guys! Today I am still working in my 2014 Project Life album to document our house being built, and today might be the last of the layouts before we begin our painting portion of the project. Have a look at my process:

So here is the layout with only photos and Project Life cards:

TBT Project Life Week 24

And here is my completed layout, with journaling and embellishments:

TBT Project Life Week 24

The left hand side of the layout includes photos from Addison’s graduation from elementary school. I am still loving having our regular life right beside the house construction in this album. We probably left his graduation and went straight over to the house to work on it that day, that is how our schedule was going at the time. I love that representation of reality there!

TBT Project Life Week 24

I mentioned this in my process video, and it is worth repeating. I absolutely used a more feminine collection for a “boy” layout here! I must admit I cringe at assigning gender assignments to colors, because colors are beautiful and enrich our lives no matter who we are. So yes, there are pinks and turquoises on this layout and I love them. And Addison actually likes pink, which I am completely in support of. Allow me to encourage you to use the products you want to use, regardless of what other people might say or think. Enjoy them all!

TBT Project Life Week 24

I also found myself pulling out one of Ali Edwards’ Story stamp sets for this layout. They are always a great choice in Project Life layouts!

TBT Project Life Week 24

I do really like the wood grain in this collection, so I used two of those filler cards. This one houses the week number and the date of the week. So many happy textures and florals in this project, which always means lots of visual interest in your layout. I did leave some white space on this card for a place to rest your eye.

TBT Project Life Week 24

For the other side I included the documentation on the house project for the week. I began with this title card. Our kitchen was delivered, and when we stopped by that day we were locked out of the house to prevent theft or damage. We looked through the windows and saw these boxes, which are our kitchen and bath cabinets and counter tops! So exciting!!

TBT Project Life Week 24

These are the boxes. I loved taking this picture – it is so imperfect but I didn’t know any other way to capture my pure joy and excitement at seeing these boxes. I spent many years designing interiors for other people (mainly work and hospital spaces), and here for the very first time was my very own product I specified and selected. Big moment.

TBT Project Life Week 24

So let me just tell you, not only am I in love with the kitchen, but I am also in love with these journaling cards in the Dear Lizzy kit! One of course houses the journaling, which is actually a timeline of the week. I wanted to document how the cabinets were delivered and installed, and then the house was turned over to us for our portion of the project.

TBT Project Life Week 24

This lovely card looks like it was misted, and I added the stamped label plus a few hearts to embellish. For the fourth card, I did nothing and just left the pretty pattern to show.

TBT Project Life Week 24

This is more journaling about what lies ahead for us in building this home. I have mentioned several times that we decided to participate in a program called Sweat Equity, where the homeowner does a portion of the contract work, and in exchange the builder waives a portion of the cost of the home. Typically the homeowners do the painting and the landscaping, and that was the case for us.

TBT Project Life Week 24

Now typically the program is designed for first time home owners and typically those home owners are purchasing and working on smaller homes. Did I mention we have four kids?! And this is a four-bedroom, two and half bath, 2,600 square feet home. Now, Alan and I are DIY-ers, and we love a project or two. We did our wedding ourselves (with help from some great friends!) and we have both certainly spent our share of time painting. Prior to our move, we painted the house we were living in, top to bottom as well.

TBT Project Life Week 24

But holy cow. Look at the way the house looked! No electricity, which meant no A/C. The doors and trim were there, but they all had to be puttied and sanded and also painted. We were responsible for the ceilings as well. And yes, the floors are only bare concrete and sub floors. And no, there were no bathrooms installed yet. So this is what is coming up for us, and this is what I will be documenting in the next few weeks. I will give you a small hint – everything works out in the end and we did awesome, and there are some GREAT stories to tell!

TBT Project Life Week 24

Alright, see you back here tomorrow for my Charleston Traveler’s Notebook project!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 23 | Dear Lizzy Fine & Dandy!!!

Hi guys!!! It is Week 23 in my 2014 Project Life album today! The house construction is beginning to wind down, just a few more layouts like this and then I will be returning to traditional Project Life layouts for the rest of the year. Here is my process video today:

This is the layout as I began, with photos and journaling cards in place:

Project Life 2014 Week 23

There was a 6×12 insert this week, so this is Side A:

Project Life 2014 Week 23

This is Side B:

Project Life 2014 Week 23

So there was quite a bit going on this week in addition to the construction. One thing I love about Project Life is that it allows you to include stories from all around the week. An album that was strictly about the house construction might not show our lives going on in the meantime, but here I can do that. The house itself on this side of the layout is just one single photo. That is all I photographed on that day, so I really can’t even tell what was done on that day. No worries, include the photo and move on, right?

Project Life 2014 Week 23

I still love using these circle dates from Paislee Press, but this one I layered on top of the gold rimmed tag from Dear Lizzy. On all of them across the page I included the white number lower down on top of the photo for consistency.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

My date card here looks a little rough. I had some technical issues with the stamp itself because it does not ink all the way on the inside of the stamp. I also know that I forgot to add the dates of the week! When I create my layout next week I will probably end up fixing both those things.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

I absolutely love mixing the product from the collection with the cards from the Core Kits! This is one of the reasons I love Project Life so much – it allows me to continue using my stash and to stretch my stash even further.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

The two photos on the bottom of the layout are from my son’s birthday on June 4th. This is part of the balance of Project Life which I love – yes our house is being built, but yes, we are still doing all of our normal life things.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

I think in my last TBT process video I discovered the fun of placing stickers up the side of a photo just like the hearts in the Periscope app. I am totally using that technique more often now, and here I used stars.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

Now if you watched the process video, you heard me realize right in the middle of my voice-over that this was actually Nick’s 10th birthday! So many mistakes in this layout, and I just have to laugh at myself because I really forgot for a minute that I was working in 2014. I will fix this later on as well. I normally let one or two mistakes go, but since there are a few on here that are bugging me I will fix them.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

This is the insert, which tells the story of the driveway and back patio being poured.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

We did not go inside the house that day, in order to make sure that nobody accidentally walked on the concrete.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

I love this banner across the bottom, and I added a tab sticker and punch so you would know to turn the insert.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

The second page starts with Nick’s baseball game, last one for that season. I did no embellishing, just a bit of journaling.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

For the title card on the right hand side I used one of the cards from the Core Kit and layered on a chipboard sticker and one of the house die cuts.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

The circle date again, and I love how those circles unify this whole layout.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

These two filler cards were fairly easy to put together. I really love the black and white elements in the Fine & Dandy collection, so I made use of them!

Project Life 2014 Week 23

And then there is this photo right here. These end up being my favorites, of course, ones where they are excited and hugging on each other. They are bonding with the spaces we are creating and these spaces will become the backdrop of their best memories, we hope!

Project Life 2014 Week 23

My journaling is here, and I covered the banner that was on the card with this gold one, just to repeat the gold elements on the spread.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

These are the last two cards on this layout. One is for more journaling and the other I just left blank.

Project Life 2014 Week 23

Whew, that was a full post and a memory-filled layout! I hope you had fun seeing that. See you back tomorrow with some Traveler’s Notebook updates!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 22 Part B | Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste!!

Hi guys! Today is TBT and that means another 2014 Project Life layout, where I am currently documenting our house construction project! Today I am in Week 22, the second part, and I decided to use my Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste collection. Here is my process video:

Oh I am always so happy using my Amy Tangerine products. The colors are so bright and happy and the layouts always turn out the same. Here is the layout with only photos and journaling cards:

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

And here is the completed layout, with journaling and embellishments:

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

Since this is the second layout for Week 22, I did not need a date card. So I created this adorable filler card.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

I made sure to include my circle date from Paislee Press so the date on this photo was easy to identify. I have been using these throughout this project for consistency and love them.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

The center pockets are all Project Life cards from the Cut & Paste mini kit. I used the stamp set from the Finders Keepers collection, and the enamel dots are from October Afternoon.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

The drywall in the house is now completely hung, and they are preparing to do the seams and spackle. I love this real life photo of the product waiting. This is the spackle. This is how much it will take to seal in these lovely walls and to make the drywall smooth and beautiful. I love this.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

The windows also passed inspection so I documented those stamps of approval. I love these small details – don’t be afraid to capture those, to remember those moments and what it means. I also love how the street looking out that window was so different from now (it is all filled up with homes!). This is how it was, maybe it was only this way for a few days, because time marches on. Capture it! Get that shot!

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

Two more journaling cards on this side, with just a few notes about what is going on.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

The right hand side of the layout is about our school’s Spring Fling. Yep, even while our house is being built, life is moving forward. This was a yearly tradition for us for quite a few years – the elementary school in our previous county held an annual Spring Fling and it was always a favorite event. You might recall when I was gathering the photos and preparing to tackle this project, I came upon these photos and decided to reprint them because they are awful yellow. So I did reprint them and adjusted them a bit in Photoshop. They still are not perfect, by any means, as you can see! But they are included anyway. Keep the imperfect ones. This was too important to leave out.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

I started off with this photo of them all gathered around a table playing a game. The fact that they, for one moment, were all around the same table at the same time is miraculous enough (!) and it tells such a story here. Again, such a fleeting moment, they all look different now!

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

These two. They are best friends. They miss each other when they are apart. When we were deciding on floor plans for the house, they insisted on keeping a room together. Sometimes they fight the worst, and sometimes they ignore each other altogether (!) but at the end of the day, this is them. I want you guys to know that both of them carry silent grief. Both of them have experienced loss and sadness – each one unique and neither one greater than the other. But this. Out of loss and tragedy and pain comes this.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

The pockets across the center are again Project Life cards with simple embellishments. The wood grain card here just had to be used up. I layered the circle die cut and a star enamel dot on top.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

And then there are these two. You can tell which of the children grew up being photographed, and therefore when the camera is out she will pose. I love both, and I love that this photo captures both.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

I created a simple title card here. This event definitely was on their Love List and that banner is perfect. Alphabet is from Amy’s Stitched collection.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

Last two filler cards here. Simple stamping and a washi tape from Paper Source that is laying on my desk.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

That is all for today friends! I hope this was fun! See you back tomorrow with some traveler’s notebook fun!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 22 Part A | Ali Edwards Storytelling with Project Life Kit

Hi guys! I am plugging along in my 2014 Project Life album, documenting the construction of our house. Today I am in Week 22, the first part, and have chosen to use my Storytelling kit from Ali Edwards. Have a look here at my process:

Here is the layout with photos and journaling cards:

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

This is the completed layout:

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

Is it me, or do these layouts keep getting better and better? What an exciting couple of days in the photo-documenting of this process: delivery and installation of drywall.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

Oh how I adore this organic card from the Storytelling kit. It is perfect for my date card, which is layered with a large tag, wood banner, and chippy stars.

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

Of course I included my circle date from Paislee Press to highlight the date of these photos. And yes, we traded the dumpster for the portable bathroom. It’s just hilarious at this point, no?!

Project Life 2014 Week 22B

I had all journaling cards across the center, so I chose different colors for each one, and added simple embellishment to each one.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

I know the photo makes it really hard to see, but Alan and I carved our initials A & T into the door frame of our master bedroom before they installed the drywall. I photographed the moment and included it here with a chipboard frame.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

I also made a point to capture some of the tools and supplies as we found them on the jobsite. Now our contractors were incredibly neat and cleaned up at the end of each day, but sometimes evidence was left that were part of their particular jobs. I think it is incredibly important to capture these details that you might think are just ordinary, but when it is your house it is our of the ordinary. Grab those shots, my friends. You won’t regret it.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

This may seriously be one of my favorite layouts ever. In thirteen years of doing this craft. If you have just started out, or are going on twenty years yourself, I hope you have layouts that make you as happy as this one makes me.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

This day, for me, was perhaps the most exciting day in the whole process, because we finally got to see and experience the actual spaces. Everything I had hoped for in these four walls, came to be, and everything I had planned for, actually was.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

Of course, here is the outside of the house that day, and our friend the portable bathroom. Next to that photo is inside the house, in my studio, looking back out the door. This is one of the few messes the contractors ever left (!) and I love the story it tells. We are mid-process, here, people.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

There were many photos of the interior that day, but I narrowed it down to keep it to one page. I did include these two 3×4 photos here:

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

And here:

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

I love this journaling card because it brings all the colors in this layout together. I highlighted the W with a star because this was actually Wednesday of that week, although I don’t normally document what day of the week it is. Again the stars add the perfect tiny dimension.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

Final photo on this layout, and it is a significant one to me. This is our living room! This is where I pray we have so many wonderful memories, where I hope the children look back for many years to come at all the love they experienced and all the memories they made.

Project Life 2014 Week 22A

This is the backdrop against which our lives will happen from here forward! I know it is not the richest or most extravagant; in fact it is just a modest size home that we are so fortunate to be able to own. For this I am so incredibly thankful. And thank you, my dear readers, for allowing me to share this with you here. I will have a post tomorrow – I am introducing a brand new project to you that I know you are going to love! I will see you then!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B | Sweet Edition Core Kit & Crate Paper Notes & Things

Hi guys! I’ve got a TBT layout today working in my 2014 Project Life album, continuing to document our house building project. I decided to use the Sweet Edition Core Kit from Project Life, and then my TBT products are from Crate Paper’s Notes & Things collection. Here is my process video:

Here is the layout with just photos and journaling cards:

Project Life 2014 Week 21 B

Here is the completed layout:

Project Life 2014 Week 21 B

So I started with my journaling card from the Sweet Edition and added a bird sticker from Crate Paper and some stitching, plus my journaling.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 B

Simple embellishments on a few of the filler cards mean easy and quick design.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 B

I love this photo of Natalie with some of her class mates here. She is so excited and it shows in every fiber of her being.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

I cannot say enough happy things about the Sweet Edition core kit. The colors are just beautiful and the fonts plus the icons make it so easy and fun to work with! This filler card might be one of my favorites, with the bold floral print that creates a perfect backdrop to the embellishments.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

On the facing page I return to the house to include photographs of the interior walls before they install the drywall. I love seeing the insides of our walls (yes, it’s the interior design geek in me!) like this. Also, this hello card is perfect.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

I included my usual circle date from Paislee Press in order to highlight the date of these photos.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

These filler and journaling cards are so simply but so awesome! I did not do a thing to the Oui Oui card, and even though I do not speak French it’s still cool right there.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

The ticket from Notes & Things was the perfect shade of mint to coordinate with the Sweet edition – who knew? That ticket is perfect right there on top of the floral card.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

Just one final ticket on this last photo with a really rough rub-on layered on top.

Project Life 2014 Week 21 Part B

That is all for today! I am trying to finish up a post for tomorrow but if that doesn’t come together I will see you back here on Monday. Next week is a full week with some brand new projects being announced so stay tuned!
