TBT Project Life 2014 Week 20 | Charming Edition Core Kit and Dear Lizzy Serendipity!

Hi guys, today’s TBT layout takes us further along in my 2014 house construction project. I am so excited to show you the brand new Charming Edition Core Kit from Becky Higgins today and you are going to love it. Here is my process:

Here is the layout I began with, photos and journal cards chosen and in place.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

And the completed layout here.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

So I mentioned in my video that I have divided up this Core Kit and am offering the divided kits in my Etsy shop. Go have a look if you’re dying to get your hands on it – I promise you will love it so much: Larkindesign.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

I started this layout actually in the lower corner because I couldn’t wait to use those gold words from Dear Lizzy. Those are simply layered over the circle I cut from one of the journaling cards, on a vellum that is from another Dear Lizzy collection (Lucky Charm, I believe).

Project Life 2014 Week 20

Above that are some of the 3×4 journaling cards that are included in the Charming Core Kit. That chevron is to die for.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

My circle date is here, from Paislee Press. I am doing this consistently throughout this portion of the album so the date is easily found on the layout. I am really happy about how these look!

Project Life 2014 Week 20

This constellation map is an embellishment from the Serendipity ephemera pack that I have been (hoarding) holding onto for a while now. Next to that is one of the gold foiled cards from the Charming Kit. A note about the foiled cards: they were singles in the kit, so those have been divided up and each of the divided kits I have in my shop include different foiled cards. Which cards come in which kit is photographed, so you can choose which ones are your favorite!

Project Life 2014 Week 20

The other side of the layout is actually two stories – one about Muffins with Mom and then the construction progress for the day. I really loved using the donuts for this layout, since Muffins with Mom turned out to be Donuts with Mom. Ha.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

These are more of the 3×4 cards from the Charming Kit. The artwork in this kit is beautiful.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

Check out this polka dot. I would love full papers in this!

Project Life 2014 Week 20

Look at these cuties. I love this project so much, you guys.

Project Life 2014 Week 20

I hope you enjoyed this layout and are inspired with some ideas for your own projects! I will not be posting tomorrow as this was not only a holiday week, but I also have one child with a broken arm this week and so helping her has taken away from some production time for sure! But I will see you back here next week with a full production schedule and lots of fun projects. Have a great weekend!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 Contd. | Teresa Collins 9 & Co.

Hi guys, today I have a layout from my 2014 Project Life album to show you, and I am continuing to document the process of building our house. Have a look at my process this week:

So I started out with just photos and a few journaling cards, and the layout looked like this:

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 contd.TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 contd.

I ended up adding an insert, so this is how the spread turned out without the insert first:

And with insert, left hand side:

With insert, right hand side:

So for the left side, we visited the job site that day and were able to walk around inside the house. Our builder truly did follow a transparent building process, so until the interior finishes were installed, the house was open to visit. I cannot tell you how exciting it was to finally walk through and be able to envision each space!

There were a lot of photos from that day, so I chose a few that showed main rooms. I also liked the one at the top of the page, showing the insulation and our builder name.

The cards across the center of the layout are embellished very minimally, and I love them. This Teresa Collins collection is quite vibrant and happy, and doesn’t need much. I did add my journaling here on the orange card.

The room shown in the lower corner is my husband’s upstairs office. It is an open room with a bedroom on each side. I added another embellishment card here using the floral pattern in this collection. Oh so pretty!

The main photo with the circle date is on the insert itself, along with more journaling and also a photo of the living room.

The right hand side of this layout is about a casual lazy day we had on Sunday of that week. I am guessing we did not visit the job site that day so we could rest, visit church, and do laundry! So I had a few snaps of the kids and included them here.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 contd.TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 contd.

The back side of the insert tells about a minor mistake we found when they placed the studs in the house! It was really no big deal, and our superintendent had taken care of it by the time we asked him about it. But definitely something I had photographed and wanted to include in our story.

And so that, my friends, is all for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow because I have a very special project to share with you tomorrow! See you then!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2!

Hi guys, my layout today is continuing in my 2014 Project Life where I am documenting our house being built. This project is moving along so well and I am so happy to share it with you! Have a look at my process video:

Last week I had started this layout, with an insert, and so I split it into two weeks. Here is this side of the layout with just photos and journaling cards.

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

And here is this side completed:

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

This is the entire layout completed here, minus the insert.

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

I am still working with my Allison Kreft products that I began on the other side. I am also continuing to use the circle dates from Paislee Press.

This week saw two main events: my husband’s father passed away so he was called to Florida for his memorial service. While he was gone I visited the jobsite and was pleasantly surprised to find a structure in place!

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

While Alan’s father’s death was a significant event, I did not write much about it just to keep it private and sacred to Alan. It was significant, however, because when I found the structure had been built, I was excited and of course texted him the great news + pictures. It was a definite bright spot in the week!

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

And then, two days later, when Alan got back home, the second floor was up! Just like that!

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

I journaled a little about this on the layout too, that we still couldn’t go inside because it looked like pick-up-sticks inside! I really used minimal embellishments on this page, and love the way it keeps focus on the photos.

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

Now that I look back on the layout, I might not leave both journaling cards side by side. The left one actually belongs with the insert itself, so visually it should be closer to that side. I will have to think on that.

Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 2

So that is all for today’s layout. I have another Project Life layout to show you tomorrow, so I will see you then!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19 Part 01

Hi guys, I am working today on my 2014 Project Life and continuing the process of documenting our house building adventures! I decided to split this layout into two weeks as it has an insert. Have a look at my process video:

So here is the full layout with just photos and journaling cards. At this stage I also had my dates noted on the sticky notes, and some of the notes had the photo number for reference, to help me stay organized.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

This is the left side, which I am working on today, with the insert.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

And then next week I will show you this side completed.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

I don’t normally create title cards, per se, but I did here simply to highlight what a big deal this really is for us. I want to tell you that I don’t create these pages and share them here to brag about how great my life is, but rather to express my gratitude and my overwhelm for how my life has been transformed. I have a long background in Interior Design and am actually trained as a designer, worked in the industry before I had my children. I have dreamed since I was 13 years old, about building my own home.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

It is no secret that my first marriage was a highly abusive one. I was never the victim you see in photos – I never wore my bruises on the outside, but rather on the inside. Not long after my daughter was born, the abuse escalated and became physical. When my daughter was about 18 months old, I filed for divorce. As I was a stay at home Mom, the settlement in the divorce meant I lost my home. All my life savings, everything I had worked hard for, was gone.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

I struggled for a few years, working full time and going to school full time. I can’t lie, I lived in poverty with very few resources and it was a really hard time. And then I met the guy whose feet you see right there, and the landscape began to change a bit.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

He had his own story of loss and pain and sadness, and together we worked on healing and starting a fresh life. This home was his gift to me, his sharing of his own life work and savings with me, and that is why I share this work here.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

Not only did we make a new start for ourselves, but also for our four beautiful children. If we want them to know that life is filled with hope and that joy comes in the morning, we have to live that out for them.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

You see, no one is immune from sadness and grief. No one will live a happy life every day or even every year. Even in the midst of the joy of a new home, I see our children clinging to each other, wondering what this change will mean for them. Holding onto each other, learning how to be there for each other while they wait to see how this will turn out.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

We’re all kind of waiting to see how this will all turn out, aren’t we? Aren’t we all clinging tightly, holding on, together? Right now we are all just looking at a slab, filled with promise and hope. A concrete slab that is yet to be completed, yet to be subjected to inspections and much, much change.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 19a

I have a secret. The secret is that it is all going to be ok. Even through the hammering and the rework and the building process, even through the growing pains and the adjustments, it is all going to be ok.

TBT Project Life 2014 | Week 18 Dear Lizzy DayDreamer

Hi guys, welcome to the start of my process videos for Project Life 2014! In this video I talk a little about my photo processing (big shout out to Persnickety Prints!) and continuing to prepare the album, and then I dive right in to making layouts. Have a look at the video:

Yeah, so when I left you last week, my task list was made, and I needed to have more photos printed. I went in and placed sticky notes with dates and what photo was supposed to go in each pocket, so I could easily place them and move forward.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

I wish I could say that placing those photos was *that easy!* Ha! When the photos arrived from Persnickety (thanks to my printer dying!), I completely neglected to notice that the numbers were in fact on the back of the prints. So placing the photos in the album became somewhat frustrating for me! Not to worry, I just placed the ones I needed in order to complete this layout, and went with it.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

I ended up adding an insert. The right side of this layout ended up being part of the week prior, and so Week 18 starts on the insert.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

I think the main lesson to learn in this week’s layout isn’t necessarily technique or creative use of product, but rather to learn to set aside that which frustrates, in order to get something done. I think it is important to begin to get layouts done in our albums so we get a feeling of accomplishment. The accomplishment is what moves us forward. If I had allowed myself to keep fighting with photos, what would have ended up happening is that I would have put it all away and not wanted to touch it again for a while. We have all had that happen, right, where we were so determined to get this one thing done and it didn’t work out?

I am right there with you! So when that happens, put the thing away that frustrates you and start getting a layout done. Every week that you get a layout done is another week you put the album away with positive feelings of accomplishment!

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

I think in scrapbooking, we need to feel that sense of accomplishment in order to keep moving forward. In order to keep bringing the album off the shelf and keep creating layouts, we need to feel that something is getting done. For this week, one layout is done.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

As we get a little done each week, each week a layout, then we start to see real, quantifiable progress towards completion.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

So I just wanted to point out a few specifics about how I am documenting this construction project. I chose a set of monthly circles from Paislee Press back in 2014 that I decided to use on the photos that I wanted to emphasize. I knew I wanted to easily identify the dates of these photos and be consistent in marking those dates. I wanted it to flow throughout the project so you could easily follow the dates and progress.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

You will find this single element repeated throughout the construction project. I think this is important since I am not necessarily keeping one week per layout, as well. I am still noting the weeks, but at this stage I want the actual days to be the focus.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

It was also important to me to document how our children were central to this project. They went to the job site with us every time. They helped us when it was time to do the sweat equity portion. They got excited over the spaces and the process too.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

We wanted our children to take ownership in this home too. We wanted them to feel included in the process and we wanted them to know exactly what all goes into building a home. We wanted them to feel it was theirs, too. It is theirs. It is their home that we built for them.

TBT Project Life 2014 Week 18

I am so thankful for these photos and for this project, and I am so thankful for you! Thank you for following along!
