Let’s have a look at my process for 2018 Week 08! This is a week with lots of photos from a specific event, which I like to call event-based layout.
Here is a look at the completed layout. There is an insert, so this is the layout without the inserts.
And these are the individual layouts, left side first.
I have kept the insert very simple here. I cut down a page protector and added washi tape as a reinforcement, and then punched the holes where they needed to be. The photos didn’t need any embellishing and the 4×6 pocket below is a simple vellum with tags. I love the pop of color from the washi tape, and I love that the photos are allowed to be front and center.
As you can see, this layout is mostly about a family outing to a local vintage arcade in Winston Salem, called Reboot. There were lots of awesome photos to choose from, so I picked my favorites and added the insert so they would all fit in.
I have used the Crate Paper Here & There collection, which is a great travel themed collection! We weren’t really traveling, per se, but being in the city evokes the exploring feel of the layout. I love the colors in this collection, and even though I didn’t have the cut-apart sheet, the collection is still perfect for pocket pages!
Whenever I use a traditional collection for pocket pages, I always go through my stash as well to find some pieces to supplement. For this layout I knew I needed some cards with lines for journaling, and a good date card. This card from the Ali Edwards Wild Story Kit is a great travel-themed card and it has a great space for adding the week and date. Perfect.
I also used the calendar cut apart sheet layered onto one of the patterned papers, and then I circled the dates using a stamp. Notice on this page how I have captured this event – some relationship photos, some scene photos, and I made a point to include everyone in some way. I have also used some very basic shipping tags across the layout, just stamped and stapled into place. That is a simple but beautiful way to embellish your photos.
The journaling card on this page is from Studio Calico and is the perfect place to write a few lines about our day. The Here & There collection has great colors and patterns, so anything that I added to the layout is very neutral. I did add a bit of washi to the card, which ties it into the layout and adds a bit of color!
There was one photo on the layout, the landscape photo above, that was not part of the event. Perhaps if it had been any other photo it would not have fit in, but I love it there. That is just our backyard, and I added a puffy sticker to tie it into the rest of the layout.
Sometimes you have a die cut you want to use but it’s a tiny bit too small, just like the yellow Adventure piece. I see those as opportunities to layer, and since it already has a great color I’ve layered it onto the black and white patterned paper. The journaling card I’ve used here is from one of my collections, February’s The Heart Is Home. I always love having black and white items on hand because they match anything and everything!
The filler card below might be one of my all time favorites. I love the background paper so much for its pop of color and texture, and the explore card layers beautifully over top. So many pretty embellishments in this collection!
More photos that capture relationships here: the kids hanging out at the bar drinking their sodas, and Alan and Nick taking selfies. These are such awesome moments that we will always remember. I am so glad I am taking time to document this.
Ok, on to the next process video!
