Hello lovelies, today Creative Team member Maribeth Lysen is on the blog to share a hybrid 12×12 layout with us! To learn more about her and connect with her on social media, be sure to check out her About Me page!

Hello everyone! I’m on the blog today to talk templates. I am a huge fan of templates: they help speed up the design part of my process. I use some sort of templates in almost every single hybrid layout I do. Needless to say, I was thrilled when Theresa included templates in the February The Heart Is Home release. Click on the image below to purchase!

For my “Red Lips” layout I used the 9×12 Photo Template A. It’s a grid design and I love a good grid layout. This is Template A in the set.

And this is my completed layout here:

To create this layout, I started in photoshop by opening up a 12×12 canvas. Next I opened up the 9×12 template “A”.  Then I used the move tool to drag the template on my 12×12 canvas. I positioned the templet towards the right side of the canvas knowing I wanted to add one of the digital 12×12 papers to the right side to fill in some of that space. I postponed the paper with a gap between the edge of the paper and the template so I could layer a couple of washi tapes after I printed out the layout.

Once you have your template on your canvas, you need to “clip in” your photos and/or digital papers. Theresa has a great Youtube video that explains how to use a clipping mask. The 9:45 minute mark is where the steps start for clipping in photos. The 19:35 minute mark shows the steps to clip in patterned paper. You can watch that video here:

After that, it’s just choosing what goes in each clipping mask box. I used some for photos, some for journaling, and some of them for the digital patterned papers.

Then it’s as easy as printing out the layout and adding embellishments. I hope you give templates a shot! They make the designing part easy & fun. Let me know if you have questions. Be sure to follow Maribeth on social media, via the links on her  About Me Page!

Happy scrapping!

xoxo Maribeth
