Catch-Up December Daily 2015 Days 8 & 9 (Plus a Video)!!!

Hi there, welcome back and grab a cuppa something because this one is going to go fast and filled with yummy inspiration! I have several days to catch up on – the last blog post was photos for Day 7, so yesterday I had to complete Days 8 & 9. That is totally ok, and completely part of the process, to miss a day and pick back up on the following day. Some really wonderful things have been happening around here, and that is most important.

So first up, I have a process video that shows all 3 days. I hope you enjoy!

And now for the still photos for Days 8 & 9. I’ll just tell you quickly what was going on, and then post photos. For Day 8 we started working on decorating our tree. We mostly just got lights put on. My journaling was really just a quick note about how I’d be happy if we only had lights on the tree.

The white tree from Ali Edwards’ Main Kit was coated in Glossy Accents and then I applied the enamel dots while the glue was still drying, so they became part of the tree itself. So cute.

Now for Day 9. I realized that photographing this way made it confusing with Day 10 showing through, so I slid a white sheet of paper underneath to help make Day 9 show better.

On this day I had the most amazing lunch with my wonderful friend, Katey Zeh. Katey is the founder and director of Healthy Families, Healthy Planets, an organization that advocates for maternal health around the world. Her work can be seen here.  Also, to learn more about an upcoming class she is teaching through Drew University, on advocacy work, please click here.

Katey has long inspired my own work in women’s issues and my own advocacy, and so to sit at the table and chat with her about motherhood, blogging, healthcare, theology, and women’s rights was truly amazing. I’m still processing our conversations, so I didn’t journal much at all. That’s ok, too, to not tell the whole story quite yet. That story will be told in other ways!

And then, because it fit so very much, I used this word strip from Jen Hadfield Homemade Collection to summarize our lunch just so very fittingly:

Alright, I hope you enjoyed that! I am off to spend another amazing day with my lovely husband, we are attending a Monet-inspired art event and I can hardly wait. I won’t do my usual links, because I am out of time! But, I will credit Ali Edwards with the December Daily concept, and to learn more about this incredible project please visit her website here.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Now go, do, and create, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

December Daily Day 7!

Hi there, welcome back for Day 7 in my December Daily. So our Christmas decorations are still in their boxes, waiting to be put out. The tree is still waiting to be decorated. But when we got the boxes down with all the Christmas stuff in them, one little girl in our house was anxious to be reunited with her favorite thing related to the season – her little stuffed Hallmark Christmas tree. I’ve documented her love affair with this stuffed tree in previous December Dailies, and will continue to include it as long as she still gets excited about seeing it. This is one layout I created in my 2009 album:

December Daily 2009

And then later I created this layout, in 2013:

December Daily 2013

So when she came home and found the stuffed tree, and wrapped her arms around it like it was her long-lost friend, I had to photograph it and record it in December Daily. Here is Day 7 as it was created for the foundation pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 7

Because I added a vellum/photo insert for Day 6, I was working with the back of that. I added a 6×4 photo:

December Daily 2015 Day 7

This is the left hand side, showing the photo layered on top of the back of Day 6, along with a star vellum from Pretty Little Studio, gold doily, and a gold rimmed tag. I also added a big pink plastic bow from Dear Lizzy, although it’s a little hard to see!

December Daily 2015 Day 7

For the other side I simply added a title with the gold letters, and the journaling onto the 3×4 cards I had chosen already.

December Daily 2015 Day 7

This is a great way to highlight a yearly tradition in your albums each year. With children especially, you can see the growth throughout the years, but even when the tradition is for adults, each year is a unique story in and of itself.

December Daily 2015 Day 7

For the embellishment cluster you see here, I simply layered doily, the circle tag from Pretty Little Studio, the pink ribbon, and metal rimmed tag all together. The metal rimmed tag has a 1″ circle from a star vellum layered on top.

December Daily 2015 Day 7

On the title card, I chose some gold letters from Dear Lizzy that, in hindsight, are probably just a little too tall for this card. But when creating December Daily, it’s important to just go with decisions you made, not overthink, and make it work. So that is what I did:

December Daily 2015 Day 7

(And yes, that photo is completely blurry – I had no idea how much I relied on Autofocus until it was taken away from me! Now learning Manual focus is challenging me. Crazy, huh?)

December Daily 2015 Day 7

So that is my Day 7. I hope you’ll come back tomorrow for Day 8. And please, make sure you go, do, and create this December!

See you soon,

Theresa

The circle tag and red star vellum are products I ordered from Pretty Little Studio. I highly recommend her products and hope you will visit her lovely shop here.

Within each post I try my best to post links and attribute the products I have used in today’s layout. Sometimes, sadly, those products are no longer available but still deserve attribution. The pink ribbon and gold doily are items I had on hand. The gold star vellum was found at Michael’s a few weeks ago.

December Daily 2015 Day 6!

Hi there and thanks so much for visiting my blog today! I have Day 6 to share and I just have to say what a difference a day makes. I struggled yesterday with camera and technical difficulties, and while my lens is still malfunctioning, Day 6 is completed! Hooray! First off I have a process video which shows Days 5 and 6, and also at the beginning I show Day 4 so that wasn’t missing completely on my Youtube channel.

Here is Day 6 as I originally created it in the album:

December Daily 2015 Day 06

And here is Day 6 completed. I added a vellum insert with a vertical photo, and placed journaling on the left hand side.

December Daily 2015 Day 06

On the right hand side, I added a washi strip between the vellum and the photo, and then stamped directly on top. The stamping was messy and irregular on purpose, just to go with the frustrated tone of the whole day! (And it helps me laugh about it now!)

December Daily 2015 Day 06

On the facing page I left the top two pockets as they were, but used the sweater journaling card to house my journaling. I drew my own messy lines in silver (which echoes the silver lines on the vellum) and then wrote my journaling in black (also echoing the title on the vellum).

December Daily 2015 Day 06

The little round tag I had made earlier using the Icon stamp set in Ali’s December Daily product line. The tag is embossed in white on navy cardstock, and then I added two tiny silver stars. The stamped image was punched using a 1″ punch, adhered to the tag, and then I raised it up on a pop dot to add dimension. It also goes off the page just the tiniest bit. That tag serves to tie in the little washi tape strip that holds the flip-out together. Perfect.

December Daily 2015 Day 06

Yes, I know there is a grammatical error – I was writing my stream of consciousness there and that is ok. Also for clarification, Zoe is our cat. She was trying to jump onto the counter and missed, and when she did that her claw caught the edge of my camera strap. She pulled the entire camera off the counter, right in front of my eyes. It was like a slow-motion horror film. I’m still trying to get over it, as you can tell. 🙂

I want to do a shout-out, as well. In the 8 years I have been creating December Daily albums there have been so many amazingly creative people who have inspired me and have kept me going in this process. Yesterday when I was still recovering from the camera incident, one of the scrapbookers I have long admired reached out to me in a comment on Facebook. Marie Lottermoser, I just wanted to credit you for your inspirational work and also for cheering me on! Her beautiful work can be found here at stitchintime.

I hope you enjoyed Day 6 and will come back tomorrow to see Day 7. Thank you so much for following along, and please feel free to share your own December projects if you’d like. I’d also love if you could Like, Share, Comment, and Pin. Now go, do, and create!

See you soon,

Theresa

December Daily 2015 Day 5!

December Daily 2015 Day 5!

Hi there friends, so today by some miracle I actually have Day 5 completed and in the album. I received some really sad news about the lens on my camera – it suffered some damage and is having some issues with the auto-focus. So I recorded a video, which I will try to upload tomorrow with Day 6, but for my still photos I had to get out my trusty phone! So forgive me for the quality of today’s shots – it is what it is. Here is Day 5 as it was created for the foundation pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 05

On Day 5 we had the most fun shopping in downtown Kernersville and checking out the Christmas Around the World that all the shops hosted. I took way too many photos, so it was really hard to choose favorites. I decided to add a flip-up page to house two photos and my journaling.

December Daily 2015 Day 05

Here is the photo flipped up to reveal the journaling and the photo beneath:

December Daily 2015 Day 05

The journaling reads like this:

“Tonight was the most magical time, the sorts of evenings that story books write of, right here. The town of Kernersville hosted a Christmas around the World, and all the shops downtown opened their doors wide. Each shop was assigned a country, and they offered samples of food and pretty things to buy. We had such a good time and I’m sure the kids filled their bellies!
The best part was seeing all our kiddos laughing and being together. I want all of you, my dear loves, to remember these glorious days when you were all young and filled with life and love. You all love each other so very much and are each other’s greatest gifts. When you all are together and loving on each other, you create your own special brand of magic. It starts and ends with you guys, and will last long after Alan and I are gone. I love you all so dearly, and I am so happy you all have each other. This is magic. This is joy.

December Daily 2015 Day 05

On the photo on top I simply added the Merry word from Ali Edwards’ kit and two sequins with enamel dots, and a file tab from October Afternoon.

December Daily 2015 Day 05

The top of that side I left just as it was, with the star and banner on the number 5, and the vellum ephemera from Basic Grey’s Juniper Berry collection:

December Daily 2015 Day 05

On the facing page, which is the back of Day 4, I had a blank square. I decided just to add a wood veneer word and a couple of word stamps. Yes, I totally smeared the red words, and I’m just leaving it as is. That is ok.

December Daily 2015 Day 05

So that is Day 5, technical issues and all. I still love this project so very much and am so happy that I am keeping up. I hope you are enjoying this journey with me, now go, do and create!

See you soon,

Theresa
