Hi everyone, I was putting my December Daily album away and realized I had not shared the full album walk through with you yet! I am so excited every year to begin this amazing project, and then am so excited when it is finished. This album is inspired by an album project designed and marketed by Ali Edwards. You can learn more about the project and connect with others who share a passion for this project at the Ali Edwards website.
I sincerely hope that you have been inspired by this project and so please enjoy the video.
What about you? Are you still working through yours? Are you still waiting to begin? Keep going with it, even if it takes you a while longer. You will be so glad you did. Hello lovelies, today I am so excited to have Creative Team member Jenn Hutt on the blog sharing the loveliest of projects. To learn more about Jenn and connect with her on your favorite social media, check out her About Me page!
Hey’ya everyone! I hope you’re having a good Monday and I hope you’re staying warm.
Today I wanted to share two different projects with you using the Out With The Old Digital Kit for January. I wanted to challenge myself so I decided that instead of just working on my Project Life with the products, I would use them in two separate projects that aren’t my usual go to.
The first project that I worked on was my One Little Word January pages for 2018. If you haven’t heard of One Little Word or just aren’t quite familiar with it, it is an album concept designed and marketed by Ali Edwards in which we choose one word each year to carry with us and guide us throughout that year. Learn more at Ali’s site here: One Little Word.
I decided early on like I like monotone colors for this project with some simple pops of color (outside of whatever photos I may use in the project). I decided to use a 12X12 pattern paper from the kit that has blue and yellow sunbursts on it within my album.
I decided that I wanted to pair it was a 3X4 black card that came in the One Little Word kit and cut the 12X12 paper down to a 3X4 card to match. I adhered them together using a piece of washi tape with black triangles used as arrows and then aheared a cork arrow from the OLW kit onto the patterned paper that said “showing up”.
After that I decided to make a spot for my journaling for the month about yoga on the back of a tag. I cut a section of paper that is approximate 4″X5.15″ of the starburst paper into a tag and punched holes using a planner hole punch I bought at Michaels. It’s a 6 hole punch that works perfectly with Ali’s albums. Onto that I adhered a white letter J from last years Week In The Life Kit and called it good.
If you would like a better look at my January Pages for OLW this year, make sure you check out this video on my YouTube channel, where I walk you through my album.
The second project that I decided to do this month was a travelers notebook spread about, you guessed it, yoga! I had some extra photos printed out for another project that I am working on, so I figured that I would use them instead of letting them go to waste.
I printed out the 12X12 paper called “Mark It Down” on a piece of 8.5″X11″ card stock paper and then cut it down to fit my Travelers Notebook spread. For some reason, this is probably my favorite piece of 12X12 paper in the kit. After that I used a leftover piece of the Starburst paper from my previous project as a border for a picture on the other side.
I printed out the 3X4 flower card found in the kit and added some quick black Thickers from my stash to spell out yoga. I’m sorry if this theme is getting on anyone’s nerves, this is a huge part of my life right now and I want to document it. There are always multiple ways to document one story, right? After I did some quick journaling on the card, I adhered it back to back with a photo of myself doing “Peaceful Warrior” and went searching for some wash tape to adhere it to the right side of my spread. I chose some white washi tape with black polka dots on it in different sizes.
Next I trimmed down a horizontal photo of myself taken within the first week of my new yoga practice and adhered it to the sunburst paper from the previous spread. I originally wasn’t sure what I was going to do with this paper when I saw it, especially without changing the colors to a more muted color scheme, but I decided to give it a try in my last project for pops of color and I actually liked it. I think it’s a nice background for this photo. After that I pulled out some Mambi stickers from my stash, the cool thing about this variety pack is that the letters come in several different fonts with multiples of each letter. Very useful, and honestly I had forgotten they were even in my stash in the first place. Side note, I need a better way to organize and keep my alphabet stickers! Let me know if you have a suggestion!!! I wrote out the words “self care” and “love yourself”, which is kind of a theme within my yoga practice.
I moved back onto the left side of my spread, which I wanted to keep simple. I chose to adhere the 4X4 photo to the middle of the patterned paper before adhering that to the notebook itself. Easy peasy, right? That’s the beauty of scrapbooking, your layouts don’t have to be super elaborate or complicated, sometimes simple works too.
I grabbed some word phrase stickers from my stash (a mixture of 7Paper and Ali Edwards) and found a few phrases that kind of fit was I was doing. I added one to the top and bottom of my 4X4 photo, one on the bottom of my tip-in photo, one on the bottom of my horizontal photo, and two under my sticker phrases.
And there you go, what do you guys think? I love how you can mix the cards and the papers in Theresa’s kit and how customizable they are! Let me know what you think in the comments below! You can check out the process video here.
There is also a video walkthrough on my YouTube channel flipping through the January pages of my One Little Word album. Also you can connect with me via my About Me Page as well!
Hello everyone! Today is epic – four days jam packed into one video so you are going to want to grab a cup of something delicious and settle in. I am sharing the last four days of my 2017 December Daily album!
I have sooo many photos to share, so I will just add those below without much chit chat.
Above are the foundation pages for Days 22 and 23. All products from Felicity Jane but the black and white sequins (Teresa Collins); cork trees (Freckled Fawn). The stories for these days are about going to the movie Father Figures for date night, and my mother’s plate rack and the cookie bar I set up for the kids.
All products from Ali Edwards and Paislee Press. Photo template is my own. The story for this day is about how we have the kids bring all the gifts downstairs all together. It’s so much fun and they get so excited seeing them all, looking for their names, and just having the best time!
And lastly, Day 25.
I always plan for more than one page for Christmas Day. I know that I will want to include photos of each one of us, plus the tree, plus any other photos that tell a story. My first foundation page features product from the Larkindecember collection still available in the shop. The second page uses Sahlin Studio Making Spirits Bright collection.
I added a transparency from Ali Edwards here, with a couple of the Snow & Cocoa snowflakes attached. I also reprinted the photo template with this year’s tree!
The last few pages are of us opening presents and I tell the stories of how it seemed that everyone got something that was fur this year, and how several who shall remain unnamed got aggressive with opening their presents! All in good fun! Product from Sahlin Studio and Larkindesign.
On the very last page I included my own photo and a reflection once again that, while all the fun and excitement is over, the best remains, which is joy, peace, laughter, and love. Thank you all so MUCH for joining me on this journey! I will return for a full walk through video in a few days, so look for that!
Hi everyone and Merry Christmas to you all!!!! I am so excited to share a giant video today with a whole bunch of days in my December Daily Album – Days 18-21. I am using products from Ali Edwards, Paislee Press, and Crate Paper in these layouts.
Have a look at Day 18 as a foundation page.
The story for this day is about this one little coffee mug that I have had for more than ten years. It belonged to my Mom, and since I have received it I have gathered a little coffee mug collection around it. Every year I purchase another red and white mug to keep it company. Well, on this day I was running through Target just gathering the last few little things, and went through the wrapping paper aisles. I picked up some washi tape from Sugar Paper, and there, right next to it, was our mug!My first thought was who put our coffee mug there? And it even had the same crackled glaze and it looks like coffee stains inside it! But it had a price tag on the bottom so I put it in my cart and brought it home.
I used a full size photo on the right, embellished with the half circle from Ali Edwards and starbursts from Studio Calico Northern Lights Documenter kit. I added two journaling cards to tell the story of the old mug + the new mug, and adhered the number to the red and white stripe card.
Here is a look at Day 19 as a foundation page.
I went to pick up Nick from his club meet after school, and his teacher was waiting with him. She walked him out to the car and I was holding my breath, thinking this couldn’t be anything good. But she opened the door and had this big smile on her face and asked me if she could just have Nick all for herself? She went on to tell me how much she loves having him in her class and what a smart and cool kid he is. All sorts of wonderful things, but I did tell her he wasn’t up for grabs. lol
I left the foundation pages exactly as they are – so fun and happy! All of these products are Crate Paper Falala. I only added a little journaling to the tag. For the right hand side, I brought in a little more of that red patterned paper and gessoed it, and then layered tags, photo, and embellishments on top. The journaling is written directly on top of the gesso onto stamped lines. That line stamp is so old I have no idea where it came from!
Day 20 is a tribute to my parents. Have a look at the foundation pages here:
All of these products are from the Felicity Jane Joy kit.
I was really tempted to leave that patterned paper just as it was. And that would have been totally fine!!! But I did have this giant title chipboard word from Dear Lizzy and it goes perfectly with a few tiny labels. I added the who, where, and when to those labels.
I have written in the past about how I work through and live with my grief, and how that influences my December Daily Album each year. It makes me incredibly sad that my parents can’t make appearances in my life/scrapbooks any more, almost as if there must be something wrong with me that they are missing! But even though they are no longer here, I can still pay tribute to them and remember them in order to bring comfort and joy.
This photo is of them on their wedding day. My mom was only 16, and Daddy was 27 here, but they look cautiously happy and I KNOW they were head over heels in love with each other. For my journaling I wrote about how I wonder, almost every day, what it would be like if they were still here.
I am so thankful for the legacy and lives they led. They were a true gift to me, so Joy carrying the gifts on the vellum seems quite fitting, yes?
Day 21 is so simple and quick. Here is the foundation page.
My story for this day is about the make-over our mantel received this year, via new wreath, new garland, new stockings, and new stocking holders. All product is from Pinkfresh Studio except the cork number (Ali Edwards).
Such a simple story for this day, and timely. I am ready to wrap up this project and the days are so full that there isn’t much time to devote to this! That is ok!
I so hope you have a wonderful holiday, no matter how you celebrate. Take some time, even in the chaos, to remember, pay tribute, and meditate on all the love around you! See you after Christmas!
Hi lovelies, today I am sharing my process for completing Days 16 and 17 in my 2017 December Daily Album! The foundation pages began with products from Sahlin Studio December and Pinkfresh Studio December Days collections!
Is anyone else wondering where in the world December went?! It has gone by so fast, and even though I love this project so much, I am ready to finish it and move onto 2018!
Here is a look at Day 16 foundation page.
I had removed the full page protector for the previous day, so I had the back of the envelope and the divided page protector to work with.
My story for this day is about how I was sick all last week, so I took a photo of our bedroom and journaled about how it has been a refuge for me. I added the element from the December kit to my photo in Photoshop and turned down the opacity to 75%, then I added just a few tiny puffy stickers from Pinkfresh Studio as embellishments.
Sources for our bedroom decor (not affiliated): IKEA bedding, drapes, turquoise pillows, and nightstand; Pier 1 silver wreath; Target light lamp; Bed, Bath and Beyond decorative pillows; and vintage door headboard.
Here is a look at Day 17 as foundation page.
For this day I had the back of the vellum wood grain and I had already added a tag and the number. That pocket didn’t need a thing! I used a collage from Paislee Press to create the full page on the right. The photos and story are about decorating some simple store bought gingerbread men, one of our yearly traditions!
In the pockets I layered all sorts of good things from Pinkfresh Studio, and the pockets contrast nicely next to the streamlined template! But notice how I carried the embellishments over to the template – I left the middle spots a neutral grey and layered simple embellishments on top. So much to look at on these pages!
Thank you for joining me today! Only a week left, I hope you are winding down the preparations and finding creative time in between.
Hello lovelies, today I am continuing on past the half way point in my 2017 December Daily Album with Days 12 and 13! I hope you will be patient with me as I recover from this stupid cold!
Let’s start with Day 12. Here is the layout as foundation pages:
For the previous day I had removed the full page protector on the left and added an insert. For Day 12 I added one of the 4×8 foiled tags from Ali Edwards.
On the back of the tag I adhered a photo of Addison placing his ornaments on the tree. I added my journaling on the right hand side and numbered the day using the wood veneer tree and black number stickers in the Paislee Press Mini Kit. The story for today is for Addison, who particularly loves hanging the ornaments every year!
Here are the elements outside of the album:
Day 13 as a foundation page:
This may be one of my all-time favorite layouts ever. For my story and photo I wanted to be sure to document what our wrapping papers and tags looked like this year, so I spread a few on the kitchen floor and snapped a couple of photos.
There was a lovely transparency there already from Felicity Jane, with the number 13 already added. I positioned my photo underneath the number and then clustered my embellishments above the photo.
One thing you will notice different from the process video is that I went back and added a few white splatters to this page! I didn’t capture that on film, but when I went to photograph this page, I realized it needed some white to tie in the photo border with the background paper.
I am loving this project so much again this year! I hope you are inspired as well!
Hi everyone, today is a two-day process video sharing Days 08 and 09 from my 2017 December Daily Album. We had snow here in NC and have been enjoying it all weekend!
Here is a closer look at Day 08 as a foundation page. All products from Felicity Jane.
Foundation pages offer a secret joy that I don’t hear mentioned very often, but nevertheless once or twice during the whole month I experience this. Sometimes you create foundation pages and then when you get to that day in the month, the story is PERFECT for that day and it all comes together in ways that surely make angels sing! This was one of those pages.
I allow my foundation pages to sort of guide me on how I want to crop and print my photos for each day. For this day we had unexpected snow and I realized the photo of the street from our front door belonged underneath this transparency. I wanted to keep the red background and the contrasting white, so I cut the photo in a circle inside the wreath. This makes me so excited!
I also added a photo of the weather forecast plus another of the trees behind our house. This layout was super quick!
Here is a look at Day 09 as foundation page.
Our story for Day 09 was still about the snow – we took some time to go out in it and sled and play! Lots of photos here, so I added a 3×8 insert.
I loved that star patterned paper from the Ali Edwards main kit, so I kept it and layered my full page photo on top, and then the large number 9 on top of that. For the insert, I kept it so simple and only added the tiny tab, also from the main kit.
I changed out two of the journal cards and added my journaling, and that was all this day needed to be complete!
These days are going by faster and faster, but I am so thankful that they are being captured in this little book. See you tomorrow!
Hi everyone! Ah so yesterday I wasn’t able to get my video for Day 06 uploaded in time to share and blog, so I am posting it today and will share Day 07 today as well! Is it just me or are the days going by faster and faster as the month goes by?!!?!
So this is my process video for Day 06 in my 2017 December Daily album. Day 06 was a good day for me but in the afternoon it became obvious to me that I needed to practice a little self-care, step away from the world, and have some down time. That is my story for this day, and my layout is based on products and inspiration from Ali Edwards’ Day 06 as well.
Here is the foundation page for Day 06. I have used Ali Edwards and Paislee Press 2017 kits for this layout.
The story for this layout is one of self care. In the afternoon I realized I had a deep pit in my stomach so I shut everything off and spent some downtime with Alan. Living with PTSD and working through recovery is like that – I am learning to recognize that pit in my stomach feeling. That usually means new awareness is coming, and that I need to take some time to process.
For the layout, I wrote a letter to myself. Reflection is always good for the soul, and this is a good time to acknowledge the huge learning curve I have faced this year. I have had to learn and acknowledge many things about myself that no one should ever have to recognize, things that happened to me and ways I had learned (unhealthy ways) to cope.
I added my text to a bracket cut file from Echo Park, which is an old one from the Silhouette shop. I cut it out using the Silhouette, and added the tiny washi tape, then punched it and placed it into the album. Tomorrow I will place my patterned paper onto the back of that bracket for Day 07.
Up next is the process video for Day 07 in my 2017 December Daily album! My foundation pages were created using Pinkfresh Studio and I am so loving how it turned out.
Here is a look at Day 07 foundation page:
The completed layout here:
This was such a fun, happy layout of our annual date day to do Christmas shopping. This is seriously my favorite day of the year, I think! We have so much fun filling the trunk, goofing off in the stores, and most importantly bringing our children the joy and magic. Oh it is so, SO GOOD!
For this layout I used the patterned paper from Pinkfresh Studio as the base for the title page. I used foam letters from Felicity Jane Joy kit and placed them purposely like that! My photos are printed using photo templates from Paislee Press, called Pocket Guides No. 04 and 08 (link opens in new window). Here is the layout outside of the album.
Hello lovelies! Today I am sharing my really quick process for completing Day 05 in my 2017 December Daily album. By now you know that I love having my foundation pages fairly well completed so that on the actual day of December all I have to do is print photos and create my journaling. Today is just that sort of day, have a look!
This is how Day 05 looked at the start:
My story for Day 05 is very simple and continues from Day 04: the front of our house decorated and lit up for the holidays! We added new lights this year – the white LED lights that swirl around and around. We placed them so they only shine around in the portico of the door, so it’s very intimate and snowy when you stand on our front porch!
I changed out one of the journal cards, but notice how I took inspiration from the discarded card to embellish my photo. All cards and embellishments are from Sahlin Studio Making Spirits Bright (link opens in a new window).
The tags are also from Making Spirits Bright and I have simply added them to the album binding with my red velvet ribbon. Very simple journaling right on the back and that is all this layout needed.
Hi everybody, today I am sharing my process for Day 04 in my 2017 December Daily! My story for the day is about putting up the tree so early, the earliest I have ever done it. I started by printing my photos using templates from Paislee Press, and my Foundation Pages were created using Sahlin Studio December.
This is the layout as a foundation page:
And here is the completed layout:
Just a few details: the vellum is a patterned paper from the December collection printed on a Draft setting. My journaling was added in Photoshop by creating a circle path and placing the text within the path. Very quick and simple!
