TBT Project Life 2014 Week 21 | Little Moments & Styleboard

Hi guys, today’s video is from my 2014 Project Life album, continuing to document our house being built! I decided to use some of my Little Moments Edition Core Kit from Project Life, and then pulled my Styleboard collection from Maggie Holmes to embellish with. Have a look at my process:

So here is the layout with just photos and cards chosen:

Poject Life 2014 Week 21

And the completed layout:

Project Life 2014 Week 21

So I am loving the new Little Moments Edition Core Kit. Oh these colors and the gold foil are my go-to colors and I love them more and more. I started with the date card here, backed using a filler card, and embellished on top with Styleboard from Maggie Holmes. That typewriter, you guys, how have I not used that already?!

Project Life 2014 Week 21

My photo for this day is here showing the scaffold that the workers use to place the siding. I again used my circle date element from Paislee Press, and the numbers are from Styleboard.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

My journaling rests here on one of the journaling cards. I wrote about how I chose the color grey with white trim and black roof for our home because it is one of my favorite colors. The two banner strips on the lower photo draw your eye to the sharp perspective of the corner of the house. I love that this is still what I see every day when I walk onto my front porch (completed, of course!)

Project Life 2014 Week 21

A fun to-do list – it is always fun to write out someone else’s to-do list, isn’t it? Ha! And a simple quote card embellished with a rose and the M typewriter font for Moxley. So fitting.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

I find the building process incredibly fascinating, and some of that stems from my lifelong love of interior design. I included another photo of the ladders and equipment the men used to raise the siding, and then used the diagonal lines of the siding to house my journaling. That is the only embellishment for this photo.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

The right hand side of this layout is about the visit on the 21st of May, in which the siding was all done, the doors were hung, and the dumpster had been moved.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

My date circle again on the house photo is the primary focal card on this layout. I love this view into the house through the garage – what you see on the inside is actually our laundry room and the hallway to the kitchen and dining room. Now of course it is all dry-walled and closed up to form the rooms we love, but I so very much love this view. Watching it come together.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

For the 3×4 cards I chose one with journaling, one with text, one with a pattern, and one with a saying. No fussy embellishing here, just a few simple chipboard pieces.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

This journaling makes me laugh every time. We loved working with our superintendent and he got this thing done. But the dumpster thing definitely makes me laugh now when I look back on it. Ah good times.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

Now this photo was already embellished because it was originally part of a layout I had done earlier. When I went back to confirm photo order and placement, it was out of order. No worries, I just placed it here on the date it belongs, and left the embellishments as is.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

This filler card here is actually from an older Heidi Swapp mini kit and I really don’t even know how or why it is there, but I like it so I left it there! Also a little more journaling about what a big deal it was to be able to see the house on the outside with the finishes and windows and doors.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

One last photo of the inspection stickers on the windows. I have worked with city inspectors on previous commercial design projects, so I know what these stickers mean. It also meant something to us that we saw them in place at each step along the way, reassuring us that this was up to code, meeting the standards, good stuff. These are comforts to me along this process.

Project Life 2014 Week 21

I hope this has been a fun layout to look at today! Tomorrow is drawing day for the give-away, so if you haven’t stepped over to my YouTube channel to comment yet, do it today! I will see you then to announce the winner!

Project Life 2016 Week 20!!

Hi guys and welcome back for a Project Life layout today! I’m working in my 2016 album, using the Project Life App to create my layout and then embellishing on top. I chose a variety of products today, including Ali Edwards, One Little Bird, and Pink Paislee C’est La Vie. Have a look at my process!

So this layout is from a travel week where my husband was called out to Boston from Sunday until Friday. I did something similar a few months ago, where we sent photos back and forth and then I used those photos to compare and contrast our weeks in the layout. It turns out I had four pages, so two complete layouts. This is the first:

Project Life 2016 Week 20

And here is the second:

Project Life 2016 Week 20

I also added two inserts for our journaling. I wrote about our week here at home and Alan wrote about his week in Boston. The first insert is my journaling overlaid on a scanned map:

Project Life 2016 Week 20

That is the front side, and here is the back side:

Project Life 2016 Week 20

This is the second layout. Alan wrote two pages about his week, and I was so excited that he wrote that much! He was worried it was too much, but seriously, there is never any such thing as too much journaling. Make room to accommodate those stories. I am so happy his voice is here:

Project Life 2016 Week 20

This week turned out to be quite a process for planning and creating, but I am incredibly happy with the results.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

I love that Alan is willing to contribute so much to help these layouts happen. Half of the photos on this layout are his, lovingly taken and shared by him in order to help create the stories of our life for this week. I love the contrasts – while we lived our normal week he lived a very different week.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

I am loving the date cards in the Project 52 Edition cards in the Project Life App. I am loving having a consistent way each week to display the week number. I am loving highlighting the events of our lives in a weekly format. I am loving organizing our story, through our memories, one week at a time. I am loving choosing photos that tell our stories in this way, not over the top, not feeling obligated to use every single photo, just the ones that fit in the story.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

I am loving the graphic nature of this layout, as I mentioned several times in the process video. The angles and the black touches and the large numbers pop.

Project Life 2016 Week 20
Project Life 2016 Week 20

Notice how I did not break apart the days, although I did include the day of the week with the time stamp on each photo. We did not send photos on a regular schedule – Alan’s schedule gave him little time to text or photograph and that is completely understandable. Not dividing by days made this more flexible so I could include photos that we had.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

For the second layout all the photos and journaling cards are 4×4.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

More of the stamping, more of smaller, simpler embellishments.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

I know it is hard to get the overall from the photos, so I hope you had a chance to watch the process video all the way through. At the end of the video I did show the layouts in my album itself with the inserts, so you can see how it turned out as a whole.

Project Life 2016 Week 20

So that is all for today! Tomorrow will be a Disney layout and I will finish up Day 1 on that journey, so I will see you then!

Project Life 2016 Week 19 | Ali Edwards READ Story Kit

Hi guys, so as you know I am a Ali Edwards Story Kit subscriber and I love these kits every month. The physical products are beautiful and well-designed, and the class content is always amazing. So this month I decided to use my READ kit on a Project Life layout for Week 19. While my layout is not necessarily focused on reading (in fact, it never mentions reading!), there were a lot of elements that mentioned “the story”. Our lives are filled with stories and that felt like a great jumping off point for this layout. Have a look at my process video!

Ok, so I created the layout itself in the Project Life App, using Dropbox to bring my Ali Edwards digital elements into the layout, and also using Letterglow to add a few digital elements to the photos themselves.

Project Life 2016 Week 19

Here is the completed layout, with journaling and embellishments from the READ Story Kit added:

Project Life 2016 Week 19

I started on the left hand side of the page, which was mostly about two of our kids who were home sick this week. I also got a new hat and we took some fun pictures with that.

Project Life 2016 Week 19

For the hat photo I simply added a speech bubble with stamped stars and a word strip.

Project Life 2016 Week 19

Our knock-out roses also popped this week, but I only included the photo, no journaling for that. You will see that I used the speech bubbles throughout along with the word strips. Simple and easy!

Project Life 2016 Week 19

Whenever the kids stay home, I like to take them out to lunch once they start feeling better. I used half of the journaling card below, because I really liked the “Your face tells me the whole story.” No embellishments added to this one.

Project Life 2016 Week 19

I love the chipboard embellishments that come in the physical product kit, but I have found the widest chipboard banner is always a bit too wide for photos on the Project Life App. So I brought this white banner into Letterglow and placed in on the photo on a smaller scale. Then I added an actual chipboard banner on top, offset. I absolutely used pink across this layout, and in the end I am glad I did.

Project Life 2016 Week 19

This journaling card looks almost like it could be divided in two, and if you wanted to it would be just lovely, but I decided to leave it as one and embellish the one side. Again just a speech bubble with word strips.

Project Life 2016 Week 19

On the right hand side of the layout I began with my journaling and photo of our son being inducted into NJHS, National Honor Society. I am so proud of him – transitioning to middle school was excruciating and he was failing last year. This year we made a plan and he has worked really hard, and he has kept A/B honor roll all year. So very awesome!!!

Project Life 2016 Week 19

For the photo I brought another word strip into Letterglow. I did not alter the color, but did dial down the opacity. This one is also a bit larger than the physical word strip, which is the fun part of using the digital elements!

Project Life 2016 Week 19

And here is where the layout took an unexpected turn! If you watched the video then you probably got the whole idea of what happened – I went to use the silkscreen that came in the READ Story Kit, and it bonded with the photo paper! This is what that looked like when I pulled the screen up:

Project Life 2016 Week 19

You can see the residue that sadly remained on the layout itself! At that point I had to just to take a lunch break and cry for a minute. And then I regrouped and figured I would just cover it up. Originally I had used the black numbers in the digital kit, but the physical ones I received were white. So I decided to use those with a pink patterned paper backing them. Here is where I was glad I had several other pink elements on the layout!

Project Life 2016 Week 19

Also, our little birds that were nested behind our wreath on the front door hatched in their nest this week. We have been hearing them chirping and tapping on the door, and we have seen mama bird and papa bird watching from the tree in the front yard. Underneath I added the marketing card, trimmed down, on top of the plus sign journaling card and then I added the date. Of course, long after the video was finished I realized that is entirely the wrong date (!) so I may end up going back and changing that, but for now this is it. LOL

Project Life 2016 Week 19

The last story is about my Mother’s Day gift – the kids got me some really sweet gifts this year, and one of them was this little white elephant. Before they gave it to me, they took it on an adventure and photographed the whole thing. Notice the “Stop for Elephants” sign they altered. I love it and I love them. And I love having homes for these little (big) stories!

Project Life 2016 Week 19

That is all for today – I know this layout was packed with journaling and stories! This might be the most journaling I have ever put on a layout, and it makes me very happy. I hope you enjoyed seeing the READ Story Kit being used in this Project Life layout. See you back here tomorrow for a Disney layout!

Collaboration Project! Project Life 2016 Week 17 Featuring Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

Hi guys, I am so excited about today’s project! A fellow YouTuber approached me and asked if I would like to do a collaboration with her, and of course I said yes please! So Katina Martinez of lifeslittleblessings and I decided we would both create a Project Life layout using our Wild story kits from Ali Edwards. Have a look at my process here:

So my favorite way to use my Ali Edwards Story Kits is to use the digital elements in the Project Life App, and then embellish using the physical products on top of the printed layouts. Here is the layout as I created it in the App:

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

Here is the layout completed:

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

When I first learned that the Story Kit for April/May was WILD, I must admit I wasn’t wild about the idea. My first thought about the word wild is discomfort – I think about wild outdoors, wild animals, wild children, wild crowds, and on and on. And of course I watched the class content and wrote notes for myself about other meanings of the word wild that Ali talked about. I also looked at the photos I had in my cue for the next few weeks of Project Life, and realized that there are actually quite a few opportunities to document the WILD in my own life.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

I still wasn’t sure about it though, until Katina told me she was going to just document her WILD family in the every day, with three kids (yep, I know all about that!). So I asked her if I could use her idea as well, and this is how this week’s layout came about for me.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

The left hand side of the layout is about Alan taking the kids to the trampoline park. Yep, plenty of WILD there! They totally had a ball.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

Something that stood out to me, even in the midst of the WILD, is the contrast of REST. My husband captured all the images on this side of the layout, including the one of our son laying on the bench looking like he is dying. He’s not, I promise, but he did need to take a rest for a while and they did all wear themselves out in that park!

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

I absolutely love the circle elements in this month’s Story Kit. I think we find ourselves gravitating towards circles in our art because it is a feeling of completeness. There is also a feeling of completeness in enjoying the WILD moments.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

Another image that conveys WILD is the bird’s nest that has been created behind the wreath on our front door. This is sort of a WILD place for a bird to land, and we are aware of the comings and goings of mama bird and papa bird. They watch us as well, as we come and go, from the tree in the front yard.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

We had one particularly WILD day this week where they paved our road. We were pretty much sequestered for the afternoon, although the construction workers were very nice about it and tried to help us as much as they could.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

Katina and I made a point of using the marketing card in this kit – and it was easy to say yes to that! I love this card, and especially love its place next to the photo of my feet.

Project Life 2016 Week 17 Ali Edwards WILD Story Kit

This sums up where the week ended up – with a Diet Coke and a bottle of Tylenol! This was definitely a fun layout to create and another really awesome Story Kit from Ali Edwards. Please be sure to check out my friend Katina at her blog here: lovinglifeslittleblessings.com

She can also be found on YouTube, if you wish to find her there and that is where she found me! Thanks Katina, for friending me and for this collaboration! This is definitely one of my favorite things about the scrapbooking community – the many amazing artists who connect every day with each other, inspire each other, and lift each other up!

Disney Project Life Layout 06

Hi guys, so yay it’s Disney day! I am always excited every week to pull this album out and to complete another layout. Today is Layout six in my Disney album and it’s a fun one. The photos are of three of our children who were playing in a Tiki play area in the park while one of our children rode the Aladdin Magic Carpet. Check out the process video:

Here is the layout with just photos and journaling cards. As you saw in the video, I had a blank page on the right side and I chose one of the patterned papers from Starshine by Shimelle to complete that page.

Disney Project Life Layout 06

Here is the completed layout, with embellishments and journaling:

Disney Project Life Layout 06

So if you have ever wondered what it would look like to just have one photo in a Project Life page, now you know because I did it here. I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to fill as many pockets as possible with photos, but then think nothing of creating dozens of traditional layouts with just one photo! So here is what it looks like to just have one photo. I rather like how it turned out!

Disney Project Life Layout 06

I adore how this title card came out. The base card is from Project Life Honey Edition core kit, with embellishments from Starshine on top. The silver star, however, is left over from my Ali Edwards December Daily kit from 2015!

Disney Project Life Layout 06

I mentioned this in the video, but I will just repeat myself: I am in head over heels in love with those acrylic shapes from the Starshine collection! They are just awesome.

Disney Project Life Layout 06

Underneath the top photo is a little journaling and a simple card from Sahlin Studios. Notice I haven’t done much “magic” or “castle” themed stuff – this is not a kitchy Disney album because I have to admit I get a little weary of all that! I can’t do an over-themed album, just me personally, because I think you get the gist from the photos themselves.

Disney Project Life Layout 06

I added this yellow card to bring in a bit more yellow here, and then more journaling on the turquoise card. I really do like how these collections all come together with these happy colors, but still tastefully done!

Disney Project Life Layout 06

That’s it for Disney this week, thanks so much for following along!!! Let me know how you like it so far, ok?
