{Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

Hi guys! Today I am continuing my Things I Need to Hear series with a traditional layout called Take Time to Recharge.

Thank you so very much to each and every person who has encouraged me along this series. These layouts are a joy to create and I am loving the affirming reminders every week, along with creative process. These feed my soul, and I hope you are gaining inspiration too. This is my completed layout for this week.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

My layout began with a photo of me and my gold polka dot tea mug. I recently found a vanilla tea that reminds me of my childhood in Germany and so I have been taking time throughout the week to just sit down and enjoy a cup. Photo credit: Alan.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

I took a little time to add a mist background using the Rosey Posey cut file available at The Cut Shoppe, link here. After that I added stitching using my sewing machine, in concentric circles around the floral designs. This became the basis for all my embellishments.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

My embellishment clusters each center around a round ephemera or chipboard circle. To each of those I added a shaped paper clip, a floral embellishment, or a chipboard phrase.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

My title is stamped using the Oasis alphabet set and stickers from Simple Stories. Not complicated at all, and most definitely a gentle reminder to be good to ourselves.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

I think what has motivated this whole series is the fact that I miss my mom and I miss her words of wisdom and I miss her reminders to me to take care of myself. I miss the days she came to visit when I was sick, and in one quick afternoon she would have the whole house cleaned, dinner made, and the kids taken care of. So my journaling are what I wish her words would be to me, if I could talk to her on the phone.

{December Daily 2016} Let’s Begin!!!! November 25 & 26

Hi there and happy December documenting! I am so excited to finally begin filling these fun pages with all our memories, and even more excited to begin sharing with you. Today I am sharing November 25 and 26 with you, so take a look here:

Here is how the layout looked before the month began:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} November 25 %26 26

For the first page, November 25, I had photos from us working on decorating the outside of the house. I brought the photo into Lightroom to add journaling and the November word art from The Lilypad Kindred Memory Pocket Monthly. When I was ready to print I formatted the photo at 6×12 in Photoshop and printed it at home on Staples brand matte photo paper.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} November 25 %26 26

I also added the number 25 from the Ali Edwards Main Kit, and a tab which is from the Sahlin Studio Oh What Fun collection.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} November 25 %26 26

For November 26 I included a photo of all of us taken on Thanksgiving Day.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} November 25 %26 26

We had a mini photo shoot in our back yard, and this one is a favorite. I think I will include other photos from this session in the album. I had never thought to do that before, but it would be cool and will offer a common thread throughout. We had a fun time taking these!

I created this journal card from one of the patterned papers in the Oh What Fun collection. I left a tiny space across the bottom for embellishments, and the number 26 layered on top.

{Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit!

Hello! I have a Project Life layout to share with you today, continuing in Week 37 of 2016. I am using Ali Edwards’ ME Story kit, have a look at my process:

What I love most about the ME Story Kit are the colors – such really pretty pinks and yellows and greys. I added touches of blue and navy across the layout by bringing in the Simple Stories Posh and Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills collections to embellish.

https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2F4KAaR-KbkjU%2F4KAaR-KbkjU

One of the things I have completely resolved in my scrapbooking process is the idea that I am telling my story and that my albums, while they contain lots of stories about lots of different people, all those stories are told through my own lens. These albums are the story of my life, and my husband’s life as it relates to me.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

Have a look at the details on the left hand side.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

For me, these weekly layouts become a place for me to photograph and document my favorite memories, people, things, and events. It was fun having a kit that captured this – my stories, my memories, my life.

“/>

I particularly love that my layouts provide a space for including these random photos of the kids sprawled out on the floor behind the sofa. We keep all the electronics there (read: battery chargers!) so they spend a lot of time back there huddled up around the outlet. If it weren’t for this project, these moments would totally get missed.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

The Pieces of my Life element is one of the digital PNG’s included in the digital kit. I placed a white card in that space in the Project Life App, and then brought this element directly on top. It does not allow you to adjust the size, which is why it is oversized, but I decided to leave it that way! It pops on the page!

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

This photo captures an event that occurs regularly in our house: bringing home the groceries and putting away the cat food. This is Zoe helping Emberlynn organize the canned food! They are so cute!

Right hand side:

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

We had a date night at The Loop pizza and the place was empty, so I set up this shot on the table across from us.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

I felt like I had enough Journaling spaces on this layout, so I used the journaling lines on this pink card for stamps and word stickers.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

Lately I have been experimenting with the list-type journal cards because I am not much of a lister on my Project Life layouts! I am trying, however, to incorporate more lists, or to use the list format somewhat in the way it was intended. I do love how this one turned out.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

This week marked the week that we were able to announce who was going to be on the Sahlin Studio design team. I cannot even begin to tell how special it was to be asked to be on this team! It has been an honor to be chosen, and has been a truly wonderful experience working with Krista Sahlin and all of the incredibly talented artists here.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

Notice how I took the embellishments across the boundaries of the filler card and the photo. I know it’s easy to restrain ourselves to the edges of the cards and photos, but it is ok to ignore those borders too, and allow the embellishments to spill over. Have fun with that!

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

This Currently card tied all the colors of the layout together for me, and look – I created another list using the Me stamp set! I also used the roller stamp from Paige Evans’ Take Me Away collection for Pink Paislee to separate the lines more emphatically.

Larkindesign {Project Life 2016} Week 37 | Using Ali Edwards ME Story Kit

This is my last Project Life layout that I will be sharing this year, although I do still have a tutorial that I am hoping to share with you later on this week. I am now officially transitioning into December Daily and will share that project with you throughout the month of December. In January I will pick back up in my 2016 Project Life album until it is complete! See you soon!

{December Daily 2016} Creating the Introduction Page

Hi guys! Today I am sharing with you a real time process video of how I created my Introduction page in my 2016 December Daily album. Have a look!

Ali Edwards, who is the creator and designer of the December Daily concept, includes a Reason Why or an Intentions page. In the past I have not done that, because I will admit that I have always done it simply because I want to! No other explanation is required. But I also realize that this is a great way to summarize a written goal for the season. For me it is mostly about focusing on the happy moments throughout the month, capturing those moments in photos and words, and having fun along the way. Here is how I have interpreted this page for this year:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} Creating the Introduction Page

For my page I began with a sheet of patterned paper from My Mind’s Eye Sugar Plum collection. These gold stars on a pink background just had to be included right here! Then I created my journaling space on plain white cardstock.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} Creating the Introduction Page

I am loving the stars in the stamp set that is part of Ali Edwards’ product offering for December Daily this year. I decided to emboss them with black Zing! powder. I also printed and cut the notes word art that is part of the digital elements in the December Daily class kit.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} Creating the Introduction Page

I also added the tiniest star washi strips that are available at Freckled Fawn right now. Another thing I did that I haven’t referenced in the past is the actual date that I journaled this page. It is no secret in this house that December Daily prep begins early in the year (typically in August!), and I felt like that deserved a mention here.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} Creating the Introduction Page

That is all for today! Thanks so much for joining me!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

Hi there! Today I am sharing Part 2 of my Week 35 layouts in my Project Life album, these are the pages I created for our girls. Have a look at my process!

Up first is Emberlynn, who is 11 and going into sixth grade. This is her first year in middle school and I know she is going to rock it! (And she is!)

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

I love these simple stars scattered across the negative space on the photo. Now, granted, you have to be careful doing this so it doesn’t look like “sticker sneeze,” but I think it’s ok with stars. A few word strips at the bottom help ground the embellishments.

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

Underneath is one of the title cards, with more word strips and stars.

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

This is a photo I took of all four of them sometime that same week. Since they leave at different times of the morning now, it’s impossible to get a photo of all four on the first day of school. And who says you have to take one on precisely that day?

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

For Emberlynn’s initial and number I overlapped some of the card boundaries. I love crossing those lines and allowing embellishments to go across the page sometimes! (Most of the elements used in Emberlynn’s layout are from the Ali Edwards Cheer Story kit.)

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

Up next is Natalie, who is now 9 and in fourth grade. She is still in elementary this year!

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

For Natalie’s page I used elements and cards from the Ali Edwards Read kit. I adore the colors in this kit and they coordinate perfectly with her shirt in the photos.

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

Underneath I added this filler card, which is a patterned card that I brought into Letterglow and then added the digital word art on top. Then I added a little bit of journaling and the date.

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

We totally had a dance party in the car while we were in the car line at drop-off. I adore her enthusiasm and joy!

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

These two filler cards only needed journaling and star stamps! Love that simplicity!

Larkindesign Project Life 2016 Week 35 Back to School Part 2

And then her title card, with initial and age. I also added a few more word strips to carry the words down the side of the letter n.

That is all for today! Have a great weekend!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

Hi there! I have some back to school layouts to share with you today! Have a peek at my process video:

So if you follow me regularly then you have probably seen in the past that I like to create layouts that highlight each of our four children, and I tend to repeat the same style of layout and then embellish each individually. Creating the layouts times 4 is a time-saver, while also allowing me to create a love note of sorts for each one of them. Today I am sharing the boys’ layouts and tomorrow I will share the girls’ layouts. Here is Addison’s:

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

I created the layout itself in the Project Life App using the digital journal cards from Ali Edwards’ Story kits. Earlier this week I shared how I create my own cards as well, so if you missed that scroll down a bit to find that tutorial!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

I began with this great enlarged photo of Addison standing outside his school at Open House. You know what is awesome about this photo? In years to come he will go back and know exactly how tall he stood next to the bricks!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

The cards on this layout are all from the Drive Story kit, along with the stamps I used. So easy to bring those digital elements right into the Project Life App!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

Addison’s birthday is in late August, always right around back to school, so I included this photo from his birthday celebration. A simple label adds a little something to bring your eye to this photo.

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

Now the yellow heart in the circle is a digital element and also a physical element in the kit, and I love them all. This one is simply layered onto a white canvas in Letterglow, and then I stamped This Story on top.

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

Creating layouts in the Project Life App doesn’t mean you can’t also get messy and use your paints, as you can see here. I added his initial and his age using chipboard alphas I have had in my stash. The 13 is Ali Edwards and the a is from Hobby Lobby.

Here is Nick’s layout:

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

I also used a photo of him by the same brick column here, along with simple banners and a rubber shape from the kits.

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

I love the colors in this journal card, and even though it is designed for a list based journaling, I just journaled like normal on it. Who says you have to follow the actual prompts?!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

My silly boy put the papers over his face and it made me laugh, so I took the shot and included it here. Such big personalities in this house and I love that my camera captures them all!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

I didn’t have to add much to these two cards, only a chipboard frame (from the Project Life Storytelling kit) and a stamped sentiment. Done!

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

And here is Nick’s title card, also with his initial and age. The n is from Hobby Lobby and the 12 is unknown from years ago. All have been painted with Tim Holtz distress paints and layered with Glossy Accents.

Project Life 2016 Week 35 Part 1 | Back to School

See you back here tomorrow for the girls’ layouts!

{December Daily 2016} Introduction and First Process Video | Creating the Album Itself!!!

Oh you guys, it’s the very best time of the year and the very best project of the whole year! I seriously get a giant lump in my throat every year when it is time to begin December Daily, and this year is no different! Here is my Introduction Video for this year:

And then, because that just isn’t enough for one day, I am also sharing my process video for how I created my album this year:

My album this year is an American Crafts album that was originally 12×12, and I cut it down to 6×12. Once I cut it down, I covered it in several coats of white heavy body gesso.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} Introduction and First Process Video | Creating the Album Itself!!!

I then added a few simple embossed images to the front: the December stamp is from the Paislee Press stamp set included in that kit from Ali Edwards, designed by Liz Tamanaha. The 2016 stamp is from Kerri Bradford. I also added the tiny round Joy piece, from the Ali Edwards Main kit.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} Introduction and First Process Video | Creating the Album Itself!!!

On the spine, since there was no label holder I only added this image from one of the art screens available in the December Daily offerings from Ali Edwards. I used Heidi Swapp art paints, and the result is beautiful.

I also have a few sneaks from inside the album to share with you! I plan to share my process for creating my foundation pages, start to finish, in the next few days.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

Hi guys!!!! I am working on Week 31 today and am so excited to show you some of Krista Sahlin’s beautiful fun products, so take a look at my process video here!

Hopefully you have heard the wonderful news that I am now serving on Sahlin Studio’s Creative Team, and I am delighted to be able to contribute to this amazing group of inspiring designers! This is the completed layout:

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

I began by bringing all my photos for the week into a Photoshop layout. I then chose my journaling cards from the Simplify Memory Pockets Monthly subscription kit. You can also just purchase the journaling cards as an Add-on, if you wish!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

You guys probably know by now that turquoise is my absolute all-time favorite color, and the turquoise in these cards spoke loudly to me. I made the background of the entire layout the same as the diagonal stripe in the date card just by using my color picker tool. Easy peasy. This turquoise also shows up in Paige Taylor Evans’ Fancy Free collection, so those are the Thickers I chose to create my Week title. And Absolutely, that is an *I* I used in place of a *1*.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

Our HOA does yard of the month, and we were chosen for that in the month of August. I have included two photos of our house, one just with the sign we displayed (nothing conspicuous there, ha!) and then another photo I snapped as we were out walking one night. I have lots of photos of our home, but I don’t think I have ever taken one from this angle.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

These photo journalers are fantastic. They are a digital file and I brought a couple of them (ok, a LOT of them) into Photoshop and simply printed them out onto a turquoise vellum. You could absolutely type your journaling on them before printing, or you could place them on your photo before you print your photo!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

We rearranged my studio in this particular week. I find my studio is constantly in process, constantly being changed and products being purged. I probably change it around about every 2 months! This quirky little cabinet is the one that houses my December Dailies, and while we were moving it around, Nico the cat moved into it. Hehe.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

I found some of the ephemera from Fancy Free coordinated beautifully with the Simplify cards. This puffy star and transparent piece are both from Fancy Free, and the yellow star is from Ali Edwards’ Project Life Storyteller kit.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

I used the Lined Up Word Art here in this photo, just for fun. I made a promise to myself earlier this year, that I would begin leaving some photos and/or cards unembellished, in an effort to Simplify my layouts (and my life). I love that Word Art allows you to embellish the photo so simply, but beautifully.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

For the right hand side of the layout, I began with this totally rad polka dot card. I needed this pattern in my life!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

My dotted line stamp, which is my go-to roller stamp from Becky Higgins, created the perfect journaling lines, and the floral chipboard piece softens the black and white of the card a bit. My Stuff stamp set from Ali Edwards Story kit fits great in the bracket!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

I absolutely love this plus/minus sign card but it felt a bit heavy on this layout. So I added this wooden heart with awesome turquoise glitter to break it up. I love using my embellishments to add different textures – wood, puffy stickers, stamps, and chipboard!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

We did a little shopping, and I used another Photo Journaler here. So simple.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

This is my cat Zoe, and she is literally rolling around in my paper bin. We all want to do that sometimes, don’t we?! Silly girl.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

The thing I love most about using digital cards and then embellishing on top is the relationship those two elements develop in the creation of the layout. The More of This card illustrates this beautifully – the Love and Stuff words are from Ali Edwards Story kits and my sentiment could not be expressed more perfect!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

Zoe again, giving her personal stamp of approval upon the location of the December Daily cabinet. Her little tail wrapped around the leg of the cabinet just melts hearts, doesn’t it?

Sahlin Studio Creative Team Layout | Project Life 2016 Week 31

This was so much fun! Please be sure to stop by Krista’s lovely blog and see what the designers have come up with, you will find so much inspiration: Sahlin Studio blog.
