{scrappyChristmasinJuly} December DailyISH 2011 Pt 04 | Layouts 1 & 2!!!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

Today I am sharing the first two layouts in my 2011 DecemberISH album. I am using a combination of products today, including Maggie Holmes patterned papers, Ali Edwards stamps and embellishments, and Paige Evans Oh My Heart!

For today I have two layouts in the album. I am not sure if I am going to number these somehow? I am thinking about adding number tags maybe just to number the stories themselves? Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

For the first layout in the album I had this photo from our very first date! Even though this was back in September of 2011, I thought it was a great memory to add and it particularly significant because this is our first Christmas together.

I had the back of the chipboard tab to work with and that was the perfect place for the journaling on this layout. I am absolutely loving the messy gesso on the kraft with black ink! I added just a tiny bit of color at the bottom with the patterned paper strip (that is from My Mind’s Eye).

Our children have been an important part of our relationship since the very beginning, and I love that they will make lots of appearances throughout this album! For this layout I had an adorable photo of Natalie that I snapped one day while picking her and her brother up. She is literally only as tall as the fire hydrant here, but look how cheeky her expression is!

This patterned paper from Oh My Heart! already had lovely brush strokes of color so no mixed media was added. Only journaling, a few stamps, and the star clusters. I am working to include stitching in this album, as well, and this time I ran the zig-zag stitch forward and backwards through the machine. In some places it *almost* looks like cross-stitching. Ha!

The right hand side is not quite finished. The black floral ephemera is just floating in the pocket and when I finish the next side I plan to stitch that into place then. For the photo of Natalie I simply chose a few floral embellishments from Oh My Heart! and the Glee tab from the Ali Edwards CHEER story kit.

That is all for today! See you again soon!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

Today I am embellishing the cover and inside cover, and oh my gosh I love this part!!! I hope you will too!

I am so excited to share with you the completed cover! It seriously turned out awesome!

On the transparency cover I used some Basic Grey alphas that I have had in my stash for a few years now. They are from the Konnichewa collection and I thought they were perfect with just a tiny bit of grunge and a pop of red. I sewed on the numbers using red thread and then repeated the red as a seam between the patterned paper and transparency.

For now I have it tied with a simple white bow, kind of like a tuxedo, as the cover is still a little bowed. I am calling that charm. The album has charm.

The chipboard acts as an inside cover and is visible from the front, so the deer is partially visible when the album is closed. He is from Maggie Holmes Bloom collection. Once you open the cover, he is adorably posed along with a few stars and the very merry stamp from Ali Edwards. He contrasts beautifully against the white paint on the chipboard.

I cannot wait to get started on the actual pages of this album! The cover has been so much fun and I know the rest will come together magically as well. Thanks for following along!

#scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Part 02!!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

Today I am continuing to work on the album itself, the foundation pages of the album itself. I had already printed out my photos and they are smaller than 4×6. The photos heavily influenced how I chose what types of papers I used in the album, so those are the details I outline in this video.

I do hope you will watch the video because it really isn’t possible to photograph this part of making the album! I basically alternated between patterned paper, page protectors, and the chipboard pieces to create the base pages of the album.

Tomorrow I will share with you the final prep video where I will embellish the cover. For now this is how the album is with pages and photos all in place and ready for the fun part! See you soon!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

I thought I might go back in time to 2011, the very first Christmas Alan and I were together (awwww!!) and make an album for that December. I have photos, although they are not *daily,* and of course lots of stories to tell from that year. Today I am creating the album itself, and for the next two days I will share that complete process with you.

Creating this album for some reason ended up being quite the process, as you can tell from my video! Eventually we will make it to this as the cover:

But first, the process. I said it several times in the video but let me write it here as well: I want us all to feel free to try, and then try again until we get it the way we want it, no matter what it is. It is part of the artistic process and I know we get so caught up in the final product sometimes, that we forget the trial and error that happens first! And as a designer who creates to share, I will freely admit I am often afraid to share the whole trial and error process, because I too am afraid of judgment or failure.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

My design concept for this album began with three chipboard pieces that are designed to make up a mini album. I know that I want to add transparencies as a cover, along with patterned papers for the binding.

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

I punched my holes (three times in all to get the dimension right!) using this older tool by a scrapbook company from way back when (2004-ish!) called Making Memories. It’s a grommet and eyelet setter and it came with different size punches and a tool to set your grommets with. This was back before the Big Bite or the Crop-A-Dile, and yes, it is fun to pound out your holes with that little hammer!

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 01

Once I had my holes punched, I adhered my transparency pieces to the patterned papers using redline tape. The transparencies are sandwiched in between the two papers and this creates the structure of this cover.

And this is what the album looks like at this point. Tomorrow I will share with you how I selected all the papers and page protectors for each page inside the album, and then I will share how I embellished the cover for the album!

Also, because I love you and want you to have fun making this album (if you decide to!), here is a simple sketch showing my actual dimensions of the final, functional album!
