Documenting December In A Traveler’s Notebook | Creating the Notebooks

Hello Lovelies!!! Today I am publishing TWO videos to talk about how I am assembling the notebooks for my December Daily album! In this first video I talk about how I chose the papers that make up the actual notebooks and how they are stacked together. You can see the first video here.

Hopefully the above video showed how I chose the papers and individual papers for my notebooks. I created a formula for the notebooks that consisted of the following:

  • transparency or vellum cover
  • inside patterned paper
  • pocket page (made by me)
  • mixed media page (Canson brand)
  • vellum or transparency
  • patterned paper
  • mixed media page (in two of them I left this page out)

There are four notebooks altogether, which gives me tons of space to add photos, journaling, and all the pretty things I love to add each year. I don’t think I will actually use all four, and that is ok too. Look how full the notebook is already.

I really love seeing all the pages put together. In my second video you can see how I bound them.

I decided to sew these notebooks using twine and tapestry needles that have a large enough head to feed twine through. This was actually really fun and satisfying to see them come together!

I will add a little more here and there in the next few days and then plan to do a full walk through video of all the notebooks, so stay tuned for that near the end of November!

Thanks so much for joining me today! I am so excited for December to begin, and with this big chunk completed I feel ready! See you again soon!

December Daily 2017 | Foundation Pages Using Sahlin Studio December!!!

Hi everyone! I am working through my Foundation Pages in my December Album for 2017 and this one is especially fun! I am using the newest collection from Sahlin Studio called December, and you are going to want to run over there to pick it up!

I am so excited to share these pages with you, and cannot wait to start the actual month of December and fill this album with all our best memories!

Larkindesign December Daily 2017 | Foundation Pages Using Sahlin Studio December!!!

My approach to creating foundation pages really is quite simple: 1 card for journaling, 1 card for a filler, and space for a photo or photos. Add a number (or don’t, either way!) and it’s done.

Larkindesign December Daily 2017 | Foundation Pages Using Sahlin Studio December!!!

I already placed alternating pocket pages into the album – for this year I am using a full 6×8 page on one side, and divided on the other. Some of the full size pages will be photos, others will be templates or patterned papers. I love having options there!

Whenever I receive a collection that I want to use in my December album, I always go through my foundation pages and select a number of pages to use the product in. In this instance, the December collection is digital, so I print out my favorite cards first thing. I print out all the numbers so I have those ready to go as well. And then I add them into the pockets.

That is all for today! I still have several foundation pages I am still finishing up and will share with you next week!

Let’s have a look at December 16 in detail. For that day I wanted to add another photo from the mini session we had on Thanksgiving Day. My journal cards and the vellum wreath are all from Sahlin Studio Oh What Fun collection.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 16 %26 17 Plus an Update from Natalie%27s Album!!!!

I began with this journal card, which was the perfect opportunity to write tiny love letters to everyone in my family. 5 people, 5 bullets, perfect.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 16 %26 17 Plus an Update from Natalie%27s Album!!!!

The two center pockets remained as they were for the foundation pages, with a simple wreath printed on vellum and cut using my Silhouette, and attached to a 3×4 transparency. The number 16 card is also from Sahlin Studio, with a star added that is from Studio Calico.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 16 %26 17 Plus an Update from Natalie%27s Album!!!!

This is easily one of my favorite photos ever. These are their true personalities and it makes me laugh so much! The journaling is added using Sahlin Studio Magazine Photojournalers.

Let’s look at December 17th here:

My photo for this day is of the holiday decorating I did on the fireplace mantel. I added garlands, lights, a few florals, and these giant paper stars that came from Target last year.

My middle card is vellum with the word art layered on top, which was also printed and cut using my Silhouette. I added the turquoise star from the Oh Joy collection, which is Pinkfresh Studio.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 16 %26 17 Plus an Update from Natalie%27s Album!!!!

The last card is one I created using this beautiful red patterned paper in the Oh What Fun collection. I left white space at the top, and added the tag at the bottom. The turquoise letters add the loveliest pop of color!

I cannot believe today marks a week until Christmas! Just 7 more days to go, and I love this project even more every day. See you soon!

{December Daily 2016} December 14 & 15

Hi there, I have two days to share with you today from my December Daily album for 2016. The days seem to be running together and flying by faster and faster, the closer we get to Christmas. I love it, and I love the energy, and I love carving out time in the hustle to still keep these memories. It gets challenging here in the last week, and for me it is important to keep doing something, even when a day gets missed! Today I have a layout with no photos, so check out my process video to see how I dealt with that here:

Today’s layouts are from December 14 and 15, and this is the layout in the foundation stage:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

This is my completed spread for these two days:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

Let’s look at each day in closer detail. For December 14 I had no photos. This week has been a blur of shopping, baking, working, wrapping, herding children, and working more. And some days just go by too quickly to snap a photo! I decided to use this day as an opportunity to include the kids’ wish lists. Eventually some of the other receipts will be added, and for now it is just one receipt.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

For my top pocket I had chosen one of the Paislee Press journal cards from that mini kit, available at Ali Edwards’ website. I wrote just a few lines of journaling on the right side of the card, and tucked the lists on the left hand side.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

For my number card I added the silver and gold transparent card that is from Fancy Pants Golden Days ephemera pack. That card impacted the number 13 on the back as well, so I kept the back in mind as I made my decisions about this pocket. I love using transparent elements and have done that throughout this album!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

The pocket with the receipt has no photo or journal card. I think at this stage in the game, and with the crazy business of the season, we can and should give ourselves permission not to overthink of over-complicate this project. I did create a title card using the deer pattern paper from the Ali Edwards main kit from 2015, and cork alphas from Freckled Fawn.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

For December 15 I wanted to document our gifts and wrapping paper this year. My photo is of Alan holding a few of our packages while we were wrapping them. This is always a favorite layout every year!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

My original plan was to place the photo in the top pocket with journal card on the bottom, but I reversed that and placed a title card in the top pocket. I chose the tree pattern from the Ali Edwards main kit because it ties in all the colors on both days, including the greens and the reds in the wrapping papers. The title was created using the puffy alpha stickers from Ali’s website, and one of the stamps from Ali’s stamp set.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

I absolutely love the branch elements that were part of the Paislee Press kit. My journaling on this card simply talks about the craziness of planning, purchasing, and wrapping so many presents and I would not have it any other way! I probably stress way too much about the presents that we give to our children every year, but oh I want them to enjoy our Christmases so much. The wreath here is from Sahlin Studio Oh What Fun collection, printed on vellum and cut using the Silhouette.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

The only photo on this spread is one of my favorites of the season – Alan carrying a stack of presents all wrapped and ready for their recipients. I love our wrapping paper choices this year, they all came from Target and add the prettiest pops of color! Yes!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 14 %26 15

The circle 15 is also from Sahlin Studio Oh What Fun and is part of the series of numbers. That collection can be found here: Sahlin Studio Oh What Fun and December Days No. 2
