Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

Hi lovelies! Today I am sharing this lovely layout about bad Mondays – do you have them?! I did this week and oh boy, it set me back a bit. So I settled in to practice a bit of creative self care. In this layout I am working with Paige Evans brand new collection called Turn the Page and the Triangle cut file from Paper Issues!

Here is a look at the completed layout:

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

There are so many yummy things about this layout, so let’s start with the cut file from Paper Issues. I love the triangles and I wanted to cut the 2×2 papers to fit behind the cut file.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

I used my Studio Calico paints to create a really subtle background, and you can just see it peeking out behind my title work. Paint is one of my favorite ways to practice creative self care: moving the brush around the page is so very satisfying to me!

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

My title began with the days of the week wood words from Freckled Fawn and I have borrowed the words of Monday Monday, a song by The Mamas and The Papas. I know, can’t you just hear it in your head now? The rest of the title is made using the alphabet from Turn the Page. My journaling fit perfectly in between the lines here.

At the top of the page I added just a tiny banner from the 2×2 paper pad. This establishes the boundary of the layout here, so your eye knows exactly where this layout ends.

I am so glad you joined me today! This was a fun layout and a great way to practice creative self care during a really rough week. See you soon!

Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

Hi guys! Today I am sharing Week 22 in my 2017 Project Life album, which I have created using Sahlin Studio Like A Boss collection plus Clean Lined Templates No. 02. This is a hybrid layout created in Photoshop and printed, and this video shares the embellishing of the layout.

Take a look at the completed layout here:

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

Our stories this week included the opening of the pool, Addison learning how to use the ATM, my brand new Felicity Jane subscription, and Donut Day as illustrated by Pusheen!

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

I created my date card using some of the digital elements in the Like A Boss kit, plus the wooden alphabet from Felicity Jane. I shopped my stash for some of my physical embellishments just looking for things that were mint, navy, orange, and tiny bit of wood grain. The alphabet adds a perfect bit of texture to the layout, don’t you think?

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

Some of the physical embellishments are from Freckled Fawn, and I also grabbed a stamp set designed by Traci Reed for Gossamer Blue. The stamp set was part of the July Life Pages kit.

I am sticking to my promise this year to include more journaling on my layouts by combining typed and hand-written journaling. I love both methods – the typed journaling for the ease of it and the hand-written for the genuine parts of me included on each page. It’s a win-win!

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

I created a traveler’s notebook layout about our strawberry bundt dessert from heaven, and I also included a photo of it here. It was sooo good ya’ll! The tag was actually a journal card in the Like A Boss kit, but I cut it like a tag and added the mint scallop to the bottom.

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

The dining room table, you guys. In my class I will be talking about photographing our relationship to the world around us – have you checked out my class yet? The link is at the top of the page! Our relationship to that dining room table is one of the most iconic in our family, where all the good conversations happen and where all the messes are made. That is totally a layout by itself, isn’t it?

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

My secret is out – I LOVE love love Pusheen and follow their Instagram account. Photo credit to them for the Donut Day image, isn’t it adorable! I added nothing to these two journal cards and it feels good! Simple and classic.

Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!Larkindesign Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 22 | ft. Sahlin Studio Like A Boss!!!

You know how I was talking about our relationship to the dining room table? (that sounds crazy, but come on, we all share meals around the table together, and we all watch each other grow and evolve around the table. It’s good stuff!) Here is a photo of the kids at the table at McDonald’s. Do you guys have a favorite table that you always seem to gravitate towards? We do too, and this is ours.

Project Life 2017 Week 20 | ft. Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Templates No. 02!

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my layout for Week 20 in my 2017 Project Life album. This layout was created for the Sahlin Studio Creative Team, using the Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Templates No. 02 and also the You Are Here collection. Physical embellishments are from Freckled Fawn!

Have a look at the completed layout!

Our stories for this week mostly were about driving up to Pilot Mountain for a streetfest they did! We also celebrated Mother’s Day and I got these totally groovy llama pajamas. And my gardenia bloomed, which was a really awesome surprise too!

or this week’s layout I did not record the digital process. I think in an effort to catch up and also to focus on some important things (like my upcoming class!!!) I did begin with the Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Templates No. 02, which are always so easy and fun to work with.

My date card was created by adding the Simple Stories alphas for Week 20, and then I used a Dear Lizzy rotary date stamp for the date.

For my round journaling I simply created a circle in Photoshop and used the Path Selection tool to write the words around the circle. The acrylic hearts in the July Freckled Fawn kit fit perfectly inside! I also used the vellum alphas from Freckled Fawn to write Mother’s Day inside this digital frame – so quirky and fun!

For the right hand side, I tweaked the template so I could include this enlarged photo as a focal point. It’s always fun to make quick changes to your templates so you can make it work for your photos and your stories!

I have promised myself this year to include more journaling on my Project Life layouts, and I am accomplishing this by doing both typed and hand-written journaling. I think this has helped me tell more stories this year. I also included one of Alan’s Instagram posts along with his text underneath the photo of Nick and the dog. This is a great way to include others’ voices in your layouts, with their permission of course!

These photos of the four kids together are just priceless, aren’t they?! I still make a concerted effort, at least once a month, to draw them all together and take the photo. I also added a little more journaling onto this photo.

***NEW SERIES***Use It Up!!!! | A Traditional Layout Called Seven Amazing Things

Hi guys!!! Today I am so excited to start a brand new series on my channel strictly about traditional layouts. You know how sometimes you get products and there’s like 10 or 15 of similar items, and you don’t know what to do with all of them?! I am going to explore those possibilities, and today I have chosen to work with these adorable transparent frames that came in the May 2017 Freckled Fawn kit.

Here is a look at the full layout! I began with a fun photo that Alan and I snapped a few weeks ago as we were heading out to a date night. The photo itself was sized down to fit within the transparent frame, probably about 3×2.

Larkindesign ***NEW SERIES***Use It Up!!!! | A Traditional Layout Called Seven Amazing Things

I laid out the frames and speech bubbles onto my cardstock and traced around them, then I sprinkled the paper with some fun watercolor splashes. I then hand stitched all of the transparent elements onto the layout to create homes for my journaling and photo. Each frame also received a fun chipboard embellishment.

Larkindesign ***NEW SERIES***Use It Up!!!! | A Traditional Layout Called Seven Amazing Things

I used the Elle’s Studio Live Laugh Love stamp to create lines for my journaling and to add tiny hearts around the page. I also added my title using Freckled Fawn white foam word art and the yellow puffy alphabet set.

And with that the layout was done! Thanks for checking it out!

Bermuda Layout No. 07 | Destiny ft. Studio Calico Written in the Stars!!!!!

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my process for Layout 07 in our Bermuda Honeymoon album, called Destiny! I am using the April Documenter kit from Studio Calico called Written in the Stars, and you guys, it is lovely.

Here is a look at the full layout:

Larkindesign Bermuda Layout No. 07 | Destiny ft. Studio Calico Written in the Stars!!!!!Larkindesign Bermuda Layout No. 07 | Destiny ft. Studio Calico Written in the Stars!!!!!

I have to admit that the Documenter kit really helped me develop more of the story on this layout, and for that I am so happy! I ran with the theme of Destiny, as in it was our destiny to find each other and begin a new life together, and it was our destiny to be in Bermuda for our honeymoon. Love it!

Project Life 2017 Week 10

Hi guys, today I am sharing my hybrid process for Week 10 in my 2017 Project Life album! I have combined my digital and physical process, and if you wish to skip past the digital part you can click to the 12-minute mark to get to the physical embellishing. This week I am working with Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Pockets, the April MPM Renew kit from The Lilypad, and physical embellishments from Elle’s Studio and the Freckled Fawn April kit.

Our stories for this week included SPRING! Lots and lots of flowers beginning to pop after so much rain and the girls are already playing in the sprinklers, so that means bathing suit purchases. We added two trees to our front flower bed and it always makes me to happy to include photos from our humble front yard. Also, there are always happy cats just being, well, cats.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

My date card ended up a little different than planned on this week’s layout. My original thought was to use the top journal card as the date card, but then I wanted more room for journaling.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

I couldn’t resist the April releases at Elle’s Studio so I ordered a few of their acrylic shapes, wood veneer pieces, and a stamp set. Their embellishments really are fun!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

We had been talking about adding a taller tree to the corner of the house for quite a long time, and this week we did it. We had to expand the flower bed and the stone border a bit, and we also added more pine straw and freshened everything up a bit. I love the fact that we built these original flower beds ourselves as part of the Sweat Equity program, and we have filled them a little bit more each year with plants and flowers that bring us joy every day. It’s so awesome!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

To Alan’s credit, our yard would not be what it is without him. He does so much of the heavy lifting and the planting and he is actually the green thumb between us! I love capturing this part of our relationship.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

The date card ended up being on the bottom right hand side this week, and I love using the large photo as the home base for the date. Notice I did not add the actual dates to this layout, only the week number!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

The photo of me and Natalie is a quick selfie we took on our way to Pastries with Parents at her school, and I am realizing now that I did not really caption that. I really am working on that this year – I am finding that including more photos creates more opportunities to journal more but I am overlooking some of those opportunities! And that is ok, no judgment there but something that I want to continue to be aware of and take a little more time each week to include captions for each photo in some way.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

Of course, not all photos need a caption and I don’t always remember the context of each photo as well, and that is ok too. I think what I am finding is that sometimes I do my journaling in Photoshop and purposely leave some of the journaling to be done by hand, and then I forget when I go back. Ah the joys of being all over the place in my head! Again, this is not a criticism but simply an assessment that is constantly part of my process – looking back over the layout and seeing what is working and what isn’t, and then making an effort next time.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

All in all this is a really fun layout and I loved pulling it together, and I am so happy to share my process with you here. I would love to hear your thoughts about journaling in hybrid layouts, how do you try to include both digital journaling and hand-written journaling on your layouts?

See you soon,

Theresa

Bermuda Layout No. 03 | Introduction Pages

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my Introduction pages in my Bermuda Honeymoon album! I chose the pineapple vellum from an older Pink Paislee Citrus Bliss collection on top of the first 9×12 pocket page. The pockets were filled with Studio Calico Documenter kit goodies and embellished with Freckled Fawn!

As I am diving into this album and working with these photos, I am realizing just how chock-a-block full of inspiration Bermuda truly is. Obviously the island is just stunning and natural, so many colors and textures and views! And these photos are just the muse I’ve needed.

Larkindesign Bermuda Honeymoon Album | Introduction Pages

Of course you know I had to use some vellum and I have been saving this pineapple vellum for ever!!! I opened Procreate on my iPad and wrote Bermuda in my handwriting, then brought it into Silhouette and cut it out. Love it!

Larkindesign Bermuda Honeymoon Album | Introduction Pages

Then for the first pocket page I used one simple flower photo and the rest filler cards. All these cards are from the Studio Calico Documenter kit from February, and then I added a few very tiny embellishments from Freckled Fawn. The black and white washi tape is Crate Paper, and the die cut floral is Pink Paislee Moonstruck.

Larkindesign Bermuda Honeymoon Album | Introduction Pages

I am keeping everything very light and airy in this album. I really want the photos to shine, and all the embellishments and journal cards play supporting roles.

So lovely. Thanks for joining me! See you soon!

{Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

Hi guys! Today I am continuing my Things I Need to Hear series with a traditional layout called Take Time to Recharge.

Thank you so very much to each and every person who has encouraged me along this series. These layouts are a joy to create and I am loving the affirming reminders every week, along with creative process. These feed my soul, and I hope you are gaining inspiration too. This is my completed layout for this week.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

My layout began with a photo of me and my gold polka dot tea mug. I recently found a vanilla tea that reminds me of my childhood in Germany and so I have been taking time throughout the week to just sit down and enjoy a cup. Photo credit: Alan.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

I took a little time to add a mist background using the Rosey Posey cut file available at The Cut Shoppe, link here. After that I added stitching using my sewing machine, in concentric circles around the floral designs. This became the basis for all my embellishments.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

My embellishment clusters each center around a round ephemera or chipboard circle. To each of those I added a shaped paper clip, a floral embellishment, or a chipboard phrase.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

My title is stamped using the Oasis alphabet set and stickers from Simple Stories. Not complicated at all, and most definitely a gentle reminder to be good to ourselves.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

I think what has motivated this whole series is the fact that I miss my mom and I miss her words of wisdom and I miss her reminders to me to take care of myself. I miss the days she came to visit when I was sick, and in one quick afternoon she would have the whole house cleaned, dinner made, and the kids taken care of. So my journaling are what I wish her words would be to me, if I could talk to her on the phone.

Larkindesign {Traditional Layout} Things I Need to Hear | Take Time To Recharge

Products used include: Pinkfresh Studio Indigo Hills embellishments and ephemera; The Cut Shoppe cut file; Heidi Swapp Shine spray mist in coral; Ali Edwards Me and Tough story kits stamp set and chipboard pieces; American Crafts Hazelwood shaped paper clip; Freckled Fawn shaped clip and wood veneer coffee cup; Maggie Holmes Confetti wood hearts; Tim Holtz epoxy flower.

Project 52/Project Life 2016 Week 42

Hi guys, today I am sharing with you a layout from my 2016 Project Life album for Week 42! This was created in the Project Life App, printed, and embellished on top!

This was the week of my birthday, October 19th, so most of my photos are from that day. Our children were so proud to help Alan make dinner for me while I relaxed on the sofa! My heart is filled with gratitude and I love bringing that gratitude into these layouts!

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

My layout for this week was created in the Project Life App using the Stampin’ Up Hello Lovely Edition! I print my layouts here at home using a Canon Pixma wide format printer on Staples brand matte photo paper, and then I embellish on top.

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

The left hand side of my layout features an enlarged photo of my view from the sofa as my family lovingly prepared dinner for me on my birthday. This photo invokes lots of happy memories and feelings for me, some of which I’m not even sure I have words for. But that is totally ok. Include the photo anyway, and use your ephemera to help invoke some of those unwritten feelings. I have used my One Little Bird stamp set to add the week number and dates, and a few simple 3-dimensional embellishments from Freckled Fawn.

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

I loved using this polka dot card as a background for simple embellishing. All it needed was a strip of washi tape from Pink Paislee, a stamped sentiment, and just a few tiny ephemera pieces.

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

My right hand side features supporting photos from by birthday and a few other miscellaneous photos from the week.

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

Now, when I placed the little flag clip here, it stands above the page and when I slid it into the page protector in my album, it stood up too tall to fit in my shelf. So I laid that flag down flat and it layers nicely over the other banners. Ha!

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

This filler card was fun to embellish! I used the stamp set from Gossamer Blue and numbers from Pinkfresh Studio to create my list. Also, did you catch what all is underneath the puffy house sticker? It took three tries for me to get the house right – don’t be afraid to cover things up that you don’t absolutely love!

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

Just a few more embellishments and this layout is done. Notice how I carried the colors from the Hello Lovely kit right through in my embellishments to keep everything cohesive. Ah, love it!

Larkindesign Project 52%2FProject Life 2016 Week 42

Thanks so much for visiting today! See you back here soon!

{December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

Hi there and welcome to December 11 in my 2016 December Daily! I actually included two stories for this day – I know, I know, only choose one story, they say, but one story really isn’t complete without the back story. So have a look at my process here:

This is how my layout looked as a foundation page:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

And here is my completed layout, including the back of the insert from December 10:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

The first story goes a little something like this: Since Alan returned from Germany we have been running and running. On our way to Target for the third time in three days, he commented how he had been to so many stores and he listed out all the things we had done! I really got to thinking that this had to be included in today’s layout, so I created this to adhere to the back of my insert.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

To create this side of the insert, I opened the December Stories 6×8 template No. 2, which is available as a Photoshop PSD here: Ali Edwards shop. (Link opens in a new window) Since my canvas size is 4.5×9, I added another text box at the bottom to accommodate my journaling beneath the photo. I also added the green wood tree from Target and the deer head clip from Freckled Fawn.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11

To complete the layout, I also added photos of Addison and Natalie decorating the tree itself. It seriously took us three days (!!!) to get to the point where we could add the ornaments, so that is exactly what we did at 8:15 last night.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11

My foundation pages for this layout were created using Tori Bissell’s beautiful collection of journaling cards which are available at her blog here: Tori Bissell blog.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11

The last card includes my final journaling which sort of ties the whole layout together. One of my favorite things every year is bringing out all the ornaments and telling all the stories that go along with those ornaments. There are so many ornaments that are really special to me and that represent some special people in our lives. I love sharing these stories with our children, and I especially love seeing their eyes light up when the familiar things are brought back out.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11

I am still loving the pops of red across this layout, and to carry it onto this card I simply added my journaling lines in red ink. Here is a look at the layout in the album itself:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11

I do love this project so much! This is the half-way mark for me, and I am thrilled at the progress being made. I am especially delighted with the memories and the reflections and the laughs I have documented in these pages. Merry December to you!

~Theresa
