Traveler’s Notebook | Favorite Things Berries & Cream ft. Gossamer Blue Kits!!

Hi guys! Yes, today I am sharing another traveler’s notebook layout for you! This one is from my Favorite Things notebook and is all about a new dessert we tried recently. I have used the Gossamer Blue Traveler’s Notebook and Life Pages kits for this layout. Enjoy!

You guys, I am just loving these traveler’s notebooks! There is something so easy and airy about them, they are perfect in the summer time and I can’t stop creating! Here is a look at the layout I am sharing today.

So for Memorial Day I decided we should have a special dessert with dinner, and I had been wanting to try a bundt cake. So that is what we did. I started with this recipe from King Arthur Flour but made a few changes to it. Alan has some egg sensitivites – he can eat a little if they are cooked in a cake, but the original recipe called for SIX eggs so we cut that in half and added Greek yogurt to make up for three eggs. We substituted 1 c. Greek yogurt and also added a tiny bit more milk than the original recipe calls for.

Now, a disclaimer: bundt cakes are not supposed to be sweet, and they are certainly not pound cake, so the flavor will be a bit different than what you might expect. We added strawberries and a really fun whipped topping to make it sweet and delicious for summer. Here is the recipe for the topping. It’s an old family recipe that my grandmother passed down to us!

1 c. heavy whipping cream, beat in stand mixer until peaks form
1 c. sugar or confectioner’s sugar
1 pkg. cream cheese, softened

Stir all together until it’s thick and spreadable and delicious! Serve on top of fruit or any kind of baked goods.

So, back to the layout. The green acrylic ampersand is from one of last year’s Gossamer Blue kits, it was not included in these kits in May. It was perfect for my title work! I used one of the Life Pages journal cards for my journaling here and added one of the tiny enamel butterflies. Those are so adorable!!

On the right side I started with one of the patterned papers and added some stamping around the page. The yellow strip along the edge became the home base for my embellishments, and then this page is done!

Traveler’s Notebook Layout | Favorite Things Summer Edition

Hi guys! Recently Gossamer Blue began a traveler’s notebook subscription that is designed by one of my favorite designers, France Wisniewski of Bananafishstudio! So of course I had to subscribe and wanted to share with you a layout I created in the May notebook. I plan to use this notebook to document some of my favorite random things this summer, and my first layout is about a crochet wrap I finished up.

So yes, I am aware that it is weird to start a summer notebook with a winter crochet project! I actually think it’s kind of funny in a hilarious sort of way – I always end up finishing crochet projects like scarves and wraps in the summer and then it is months before I can actually use it. Ha! This one took me about two years to finish, and as is typical for me I forgot my stitch so I just had to finish it up somehow. It was definitely big enough, so I just added a really full ruffle around the entire border and called it done.

So enough about crochet, let’s talk about the layout! The first thing I did was put down washi tape on the center across the two pages. The washi is from Crate Paper Oasis and serves to flow the layout from one side to the next. I am in love with the pink plus sign paper so I used it on the left hand side. I added a simple label and dated it, and then added the tiniest little blooms to the top.

On the right hand side I used the star circle stamp going off the page as a home base for the Delightful word art. That word art ties in all the colors of the layout!

Then around the photo I added another floral die cut, the epoxy paper clip which I LOVE, and at the bottom another word strip. I also repeated some of those adorable tiny puffy stickers around the layout as well because how could I not?!

Ah, these notebooks are so much fun and so easy! Also a side note, I used not only the traveler’s notebook kit but also the Life Pages kit from May 2017 on this layout. Thanks for joining me today!

Traveler’s Notebook Charleston Edition: Visiting the Gibbes Museum of Art

Hi guys!!!! Remember my traveler’s notebook? Yeah, I remember it too and I am still committed to completing it, so today I have two layouts to show you! Have a look at my process here:

So in these layouts I wanted to be sure to document our experience going to visit the Gibbes Museum of Art. It was important to me on this trip to participate in the Charleston art community and to gather visual inspiration for my creative spirit.

I pulled out my July Gossamer Blue kits, namely the Main scrapbooking kit and the Life Pages kit. I wanted to use the Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness products and Fancy Pants Life is Beautiful for these bright and happy photos.

I layered my photo collage on top of the patterned paper and then added embellishments and stamps around the photo.

This side of the layout was mostly completed while we were on our trip. I had already done the journaling and added some of the ephemera, so all was left to do was to add a stamped sentiment and the clouds.

Turning the page and we are at the museum itself. Again I created photo collages and used those as the base for the page design.

I layered the left hand side on top of a kraft bag so I could include some of the paper ephemera we got at the museum.

Inside the museum was this fun little architectural alcove with the bench and really pretty windows, so my husband and I took a few photos of each other on that bench. That was a lot of fun!

The ephemera in this kit are so much fun to work with. I tried not to overthink things, just use the ones I like and that make me happy.

I already had used a piece of this paper fan they gave us at the door, and here again I added a piece of it as the base for my journaling. On this side I only added a simple chipboard piece and the washi tape to hold it in place.

Turn the paper fan and you will find my photo collage from various elements of the museum displays themselves. Always check the museum’s photography policy before you go: in the case of Gibbes, they encourage photography and even had a hashtag you are welcome to use! Many museums forbid photography, however, so be aware of that.

I really tried to keep this layout simple because I wanted the emphasis to be on the photo collage itself. On the back of the paper fan I wrote my journaling, which is written on one of the journaling cards from the Life Pages kit.

On the right hand side just a layer of patterned paper, another little corner of the paper fan, and a puffy sticker!

Ok, I hope you really liked these two layouts! They were a ton of fun to make and I totally need to keep going on this so I can get it done. See you on Monday!

Traveler’s Notebook: Charleston Edition Update

Hi guys! So we just got back from our vacation (also known as my inspo vaca, inspiration vacation – hey that rhymes!!!) and I am really just getting back in the swing of things. Today’s post is only a video, no photos, just to update how things went on our trip with my Traveler’s Notebook. Have a peek!

Ok so hopefully that was a fun little teaser for you on what you will be seeing in the near future from this trip. Next Friday I plan to show you some of my process for completing the insert, and also stay tuned to see some of the ephemera being used in a new art journal! I came back with so much inspiration and so many ideas in my brain. Now to get to work on them…..Have a wonderful weekend!

Traveler’s Notebook: Gardener’s Notebook Entry No. 02

Hi guys! Back again today with my Gardener’s Notebook, to show you two more layouts that I have created. Take a look!

Ok so let’s dive right in! On Tuesday I showed you my cover and the inside layout, and today I will show you the first two full layouts in the notebook.

Traveler%27s Notebook Gardener%27s Notebook Entry 01

On the left hand side I adhered a sheet of patterned paper, this floral from Simple Stories, to add stability to the page. The front side of this page has gelatos and water, so it had buckled a bit. The floral paper makes a great background for the strips of washi tape and the banner.

Traveler%27s Notebook Gardener%27s Notebook Entry 01

I had saved the tags from the plants we had bought, so I included those in each layout. They are taped into the notebook using washi tape.

Traveler%27s Notebook Gardener%27s Notebook Entry 01

On the right side I again created two fields of color using my Gelatos, as a home for the photo and embellishments. These flowers were definitely a success for us!

That is my entry today! Have a great weekend and I will return full speed on Monday with an art journaling layout. See you then!
