Awesome Ladies Project\Book of Me January Layout

Hello lovelies, today I wanted to share with you my thoughts and beginning process for my Book of Me! This project is part of Rukristin’s Awesome Ladies Project and I am thrilled to be participating.

So a few years ago I embarked upon One Little Word, and my word was Shine. I cannot lie and must admit that I dropped out of it, even though at the time I wasn’t able to really articulate why I stopped going on with it. I knew, however, that I needed a bit more – I needed to be able to delve a little bit deeper, process more, work more specifically towards healing. I have spoken in the past about my experiences as a survivor of abuse – both childhood sexual abuse and intimate partner violence – and I have shared a little of that journey in my Art Journal layouts. But several months ago I became aware of The Awesome Ladies Project, and have been specifically excited about the Book of Me project.

So I joined the class, downloaded the workbook, and got to work. I was incredibly inspired by the simplicity of Kristin’s album, and so to keep my own uncomplicated, I followed her formula for the construction of the album. Binder rings, chipboard covers, and a variety of inspiring materials inside.

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for my first layout, but as I worked through the workbook this layout sort of came to me. We were invited to write or draw our responses to some questions Kristin asked of us, mostly about why we were there and what we were looking for in this project. As I thought about my own reasons, I created concentric circles in Photoshop as a text path, and then I wrote this:

hi, i’m theresa, feminist scrapbooker. i came here in search of myself, my inner capabilities, looking to unlock those hidden talents I know are there. i came to bring the stories of me out into the light, to be proud of the stories that make me, instead of being scared of them. i came because i know that the experiences of my life were not by accident, but rather for the purpose of my life. but ic ame here to embrace those stories, and speak those stories. because in the end, maybe i can’t change the world as a whole, maybe i can’t chance other people, but i can be a tiny point of light that, along with other tiny points of light, will shine bright as the sun.

I included this photo of me that I have taken as part of my In My Pocket class, and it also serves as part of the assignment for the Book of Me class as well. I also used the date stamp set from Elle’s Studio to add the date as a mark of where I am right here at this moment in time.

Very simple, but very poignant things already happening in this little book! It actually surprised me a bit, when I read the words aloud I realized somethings I had been working through for a really long time. I spent a whole lot of time, as I think is completely normal, wondering why things had happened to me, why had my life gone the way it had gone, and what was the purpose? Through writing this simple journaling I truly realized for the first time that my journey is so that I can be the light in a really dark world. And together, you and I can light this dark world in ways that are so very needed.

Already I am so happy I joined this project and am excited to share bits and pieces as the year goes on. I invite you to visit Kristin’s blog to learn more about this project and would love to see you join as well!

See you soon,

Theresa

#scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 03

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

Today I am embellishing the cover and inside cover, and oh my gosh I love this part!!! I hope you will too!

I am so excited to share with you the completed cover! It seriously turned out awesome!

Larkindesign #scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Pt 03

On the transparency cover I used some Basic Grey alphas that I have had in my stash for a few years now. They are from the Konnichewa collection and I thought they were perfect with just a tiny bit of grunge and a pop of red. I sewed on the numbers using red thread and then repeated the red as a seam between the patterned paper and transparency.

For now I have it tied with a simple white bow, kind of like a tuxedo, as the cover is still a little bowed. I am calling that charm. The album has charm.

The chipboard acts as an inside cover and is visible from the front, so the deer is partially visible when the album is closed. He is from Maggie Holmes Bloom collection. Once you open the cover, he is adorably posed along with a few stars and the very merry stamp from Ali Edwards. He contrasts beautifully against the white paint on the chipboard.

I cannot wait to get started on the actual pages of this album! The cover has been so much fun and I know the rest will come together magically as well. Thanks for following along!

#scrappyChristmasinJuly | December DailyISH 2011 Part 02!!

Hi guys! Happy Scrappy Christmas in July!!!! Join scrappylikeafox Tracey Fox and a bunch of us at the ScrapGals Facebook community to work on some Christmas projects this month!!!!

Today I am continuing to work on the album itself, the foundation pages of the album itself. I had already printed out my photos and they are smaller than 4×6. The photos heavily influenced how I chose what types of papers I used in the album, so those are the details I outline in this video.

I do hope you will watch the video because it really isn’t possible to photograph this part of making the album! I basically alternated between patterned paper, page protectors, and the chipboard pieces to create the base pages of the album.

Tomorrow I will share with you the final prep video where I will embellish the cover. For now this is how the album is with pages and photos all in place and ready for the fun part! See you soon!

A Special Gift for a Very Special Person | Mini-Album using AE Story Kits

Hi guys! I’m going to make this short and sweet today: I have a really sweet little mini album to show you. Last month my husband had a birthday and I wanted to bring together some photos plus words to let him know how special and important he is to all of us. Here is a flip-thru video of this gem:

So I approached this little album quite simply: photos, a few journaling cards, and the tags that came in Ali Edwards’ Stuff story kit. I asked each of the children to write a little something on a journaling card for him, and I adhered everything together. If you click on any of the images, they will open in a Lightbox so you can view them larger, and you will be able to scroll through on either side of the images.

That is all for today! Have a great weekend and I will be back on Monday with a full week of inspiration for you!
