One Little Word 2016 Making Your Word Visible

Hi there friends! Today I am working with my One Little Word Project and I am also transitioning into another series I want to create, called Design Time! Don’t worry, One Little Word is alive and strong and I will keep going with that and will keep showing you my progress with that. I wanted to create some home decor that would remind me of my word throughout the day, so I decided to make a word banner. Here is my process video showing how this banner came together!

Alright, so I basically just have video to show you today, and tomorrow I have a quick video showing how I put my banner up to decorate the mantle, and I will show more (gorgeous!!) photos then. So be sure to check back tomorrow to see how it goes up, ok?

See you soon,

~Theresa

Project Life 2016 Week 1 Featuring Project 52 and Gossamer Blue Kits

Hi there and welcome back to my Project Life series for 2016! The first week of the new year fell with odd dates – the last few days of December along with the first few days of January fell all in one week. So I used that opportunity to select a few photos from the week to try out the Project Life App on. I’ve already shown the first introductory layout using that app, and today I have two more layouts to show you! Here’s the process video:

So for the first layout I chose a photo of me and my daughter Natalie just hanging out in our living room. I chose some of the cards from the Project 52 card kit in the Project Life app as the base, and printed the layout on my large format printer.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1.pngProject Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

My journaling is located underneath the photo on another of the journal cards from the app. I left that card as it was, and added a few pink banners to the photo. Those are so much fun!

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

For the date card, I really liked the Project 52 calendar cards and I added the date stamp randomly on top of that. Below that I added the heart with my tiny attacher. On top of the navy patterned card I added the pink bow and just a tiny bit of washi tape.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

For the bottom pocket I added one of the Gossamer Blue journal cards to break up the pattern a bit. I really liked the cameras, and I added the numbers washi tape with the number 1 punched out like a ticket card.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

Opposite the layout I created a pocket page using the Memorandum acetate sheet included in the Gossamer Blue kit. I really wanted to use that sheet and I honestly am not quite sure if I’m going to leave it with this layout, or move it to the beginning of January later on.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

I used my Fuse tool to create sequin pockets with the ampersand symbols and the sequins. Right now the larger 4×6 pockets just have the acetate cards inside them, but later I might add the year to the top. If not, it is still cool the way it is now!

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1.pngProject Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

Alright, for the second layout I chose a photo of our two sons playing video games. It was right after Christmas and they had gotten the Mario Maker game, so they spent a lot of time playing that while we were cleaning up.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1.pngProject Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

On top of the photo I added their names plus a washi strip and a chipboard shape to embellish. I love this photo because it tells a story of our living room on that particular day. Addison was sitting on the piano bench to play and they were just having a great time.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

Again I left the journal card as it was, but I added the date on top repeating the same alphabet that I used on the photo.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

For the final card I simply added a few of the gold word strips, and this layout is done.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1
Project Life Project 52 2016 Week 1.pngProject Life Project 52 2016 Week 1

I am loving these layouts and am loving becoming familiar with the app. I am loving the process of developing this system where I plan my layouts on my phone, print them out, and then embellish them after the fact. It’s been fun using just one photo per day! Every week won’t necessarily look like this, and I’m excited about that too.

I’ll see you back here tomorrow with another layout from this week!

Project Life 2016 Introduction Layout Using Project 52

Hi friends, so yesterday I introduced my plans for memory keeping for 2016 and am so excited about the response and I’m so happy to see the excitement in the industry about this project. I’m looking forward to a great scrapbooking year and I’m so happy you are here to share it! Today I created a video showing you how I created my Introduction layout in my 2016 album. This layout is a bit different from any I’ve done before – I’m creating in Real Time!!!!! So grab a cuppa something and settle in, it’s long but filled with some great tips!

Did you enjoy that? Leave me some comments down below and let me know how you like Real Time videos – some people love them and love to hear how I make my design decisions during the process. I’m not planning to make all my videos like this, but I would like to share a few in this way throughout the year!

So let me show you the layout that I created above, so you can take in all the details.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Introduction Layout

I chose one large photo on the one side and then all white cards on the right side of this layout. I decided to write my journaling on top of the photo, in the negative space provided by the slate terrace we were standing on. Then I set about to place embellishments.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Introduction Layout

For the journaling cards I added embellishments that carried the mint and pink color scheme throughout, with gold touches. I am absolutely in love with that little bird, and I overlapped her little wing tail just a tiny bit over the photo. She is a happy little bird!

Project Life Project 52 2016 Introduction Layout

The January card is lovely and simple, so I added a simple 2016 in gold. These two cards are very simple, and I used the Maggie Holmes heart transparency to create a tiny bit of overlap, again. Just to join these two cards together.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Introduction Layout

The lower card didn’t need much either, so two simple strips and done.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Introduction Layout

Here is a photo of the layout inside the album. Again, this is still my 2015 album while I work on finishing that year up, and then the new year’s layouts will have their final home in their own album later on. But for now, this is where it is.

Project Life Project 52 2016 Introduction Layout

I am loving working with the Project Life App and am loving these layouts. Stay tuned for the first week of layouts that I’m working on right now (you saw a sneak peek at those in my previous video and I can’t wait to show you those).

See you soon!

Process Video for December Daily 2015 Days 20 thru 22

Hi there, I cannot believe that this month is done. Our friends In Australia are already finding Santa’s presents and the time is almost up. This album this month has been an amazing journey and I have enjoyed every moment. I am so thankful for you, dear reader, for your views and your Likes and your Shares and your lovely comments! Today I just wanted to post my process video for Days 20-22 and I hope you enjoy.

I want to wish you the most merry holiday. We will be celebrating here at home very quietly and I am thankful for that. I will return a few days after Christmas to show the final three days of this album.

See you soon!

~Theresa

**December Daily is the creative brainchild of scrapbooking genius Ali Edwards. It is a concept of documenting the month of December through photos and stories, one per day, within an album that has been made in advance. More about her process, and the kits and classes that she offers, can be found on her website here.

December Daily 2015 Day 22

Hi friends and welcome back! We are so close now to the big day and I am ready and excited. Today I am showing Day 22 in my December Daily, which actually has no photos. I chose to include the kids’ Santa wish lists. Here is the layout as I created it for the Foundation pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 22

Yesterday I had changed out the transparencies and was still good with those, and I took out the page protector so I could place the brown paper envelope instead.

December Daily 2015 Day 22

I took out the number 22 and just adhered it down to the envelope, easy peesy.

December Daily 2015 Day 22

On the left side top pocket I cut down the Oh Joy! card and glued some enamel dots using Glossy Accents to give the snow globe a little dimension.

December Daily 2015 Day 22

On the lower pocket I added a journaling card and a glitter title. I am loving that gold font and have almost used that alphabet up!

December Daily 2015 Day 22
December Daily 2015 Day 22

And here is a final look at the layout outside of the album:

December Daily 2015 Day 22

Just one more day to go. I hope to post my process videos tomorrow for these past three days, and then I plan to take the rest of the week/weekend off from blogging and video-ing so we can enjoy our holiday. I hope you are feeling inspired to go, do, and create!

See you soon,

~Theresa

December Daily 2015 Day 21

Welcome to Day 21 in my December Daily album! For my story today I chose a couple of photos I have taken over the last few days. We have been baking cookies, just a few at a time. I am beginning a new tradition for us as a blended family in which I am hoping we can sit together as a family on Christmas Eve, enjoy our cookies (leave some for Santa, of course), and just enjoy each other’s company.

Here is Day 21 as it was for the Foundation Pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 21

Because I had worked with the Pretty Little Studio transparency on Day 20, I decided to repeat that element across the page.

December Daily 2015 Day 21

I chose some photos that had been taken at different times on different days, some were taken by me on my phone, and others were taken by my husband on his phone. I alternated photo/transparency across the layout to bring repetition and unity.

December Daily 2015 Day 21

I moved the number 21 to the left side. I added a few stamped elements to the photos, and another circle tag from Pretty Little Studio on top of the transparency.

December Daily 2015 Day 21

On the right hand side the same alternating photos/transparency, plus journaling in a flip-up pocket.

December Daily 2015 Day 21

The top photo flips up to reveal the journaling for the day. I used one of the pages from the logbook that was part of the Main Kit while supplies lasted. Definitely worth buying the kits early to get one!

December Daily 2015 Day 21

My journaling spilled over to the back side too.

December Daily 2015 Day 21

The bottom pocket is actually 4×6, but I treated it like it was two 3×4’s to keep consistency. The transparency is slightly wider than 3×4, so I adhered it to the photo by that overlap.

December Daily 2015 Day 21

It was important for me, with this layout, to document how far our family has come. We have been a blended family for 4 years, and when we began this journey no one told me it would take 2-5 years for the rough parts to begin to smooth out. No one could have prepared me for the intense emotions that joining two families would bring, to each and every one of us.

Part of the reason I participate in December Daily projects every year is because I want to record the journey we are on. Not just to say, look here’s what we did, but to process and discuss and reflect on the significance of the events as they happen. This story today could have just been photos and journaling that just said here we are baking cookies, but I took time to process exactly why these photos were significant.

We weren’t just baking cookies. We actually spent some time together starting a new tradition of togetherness, and we actually got along. No hard feelings came along, no attitudes, no anger or hostility. I cannot tell you how hard each and every one of us has worked to be able to do that, and that work has been messy, at times nasty, and sometimes the worst of humanity.

Of course we still have miles to go. More to process. More difficult feelings to work through. More paths to follow. But this month, in this album, I am celebrating the progress we have made. I wrote the other day how these are the Christmases our children will talk about for the rest of their lives. I’m so happy that those conversations will be merry and bright.

Here is one more look at the layout outside of the album:

December Daily 2015 Day 21

I hope that you, as you are documenting your own family events and photos, will also take time to explore why the photos are significant to you and your family. I hope you are inspired to go, do, and create today.

See you soon,

~Theresa

December Daily 2015 Day 20

Hi there, welcome to Day 20 in my December Daily album 2015! The day’s story was really when three of our kids decided together to play a game of Monopoly. The fourth one didn’t want to play with them and did not want to be included in the photo, but later on she joined them at the table just to hang out. I consider these moments some of the most important ones for them, and so this story is about that. Here is Day 20 as it originally was created for the Foundation pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 20

I absolutely love everything about this layout. I did make a few changes to fit the story.

December Daily 2015 Day 20

On the left hand side I added my photo, plus a round metal tag stamped with the December Memories sentiment from Ali Edwards’ stamp set.

December Daily 2015 Day 20
December Daily 2015 Day 20

I added the banner from the Main Kit on top of a label from Pretty Little Studio. The banners and flair on top of the photo are from Pretty Little Studio as well.

December Daily 2015 Day 20

On the right side I decided to switch out the transparency from the Main Kit and replaced it with a transparency from Pretty Little Studio. I layered a Santa on top.

December Daily 2015 Day 20

I honestly adore how I ended up cutting the 20 apart so it would fit in the pockets. I may repeat this technique more often in future Project Life and December Daily albums!

December Daily 2015 Day 20

That star icon from the One Little Bird Kit is one of my favorite icons in the entire December Daily collections that were offered. I wanted to use that star as the backdrop/lines for my journaling, so I did just that and added a tiny banner plus a heart in the corner.

Here is a look at the layout outside of the album:

December Daily 2015 Day 20

This project is amazing, and you are wonderful for following along and supporting me along the way. I hope you are also feeling the magic and the inspiration to go, do and create!

See you soon!

December Daily 2015 Day 17 Plus a Video for Days 14 Thru 16!

Hi there, it’s another lovely December day and we are moving right along. I almost feel a slight panic when I see the 17th of December on my calendar – there’s still so much left to do! I have caught up on the process videos and have Days 14 thru 16 for you to see right here. Then stay tuned to see Day 17, ok?

Alright, now for Day 17. Here is the layout as I created it for the Foundation Pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 17

And here it is completed and in the album!

December Daily 2015 Day 17

We had Nick’s first National Academic League competition, and no photos were allowed. No worries, though, because it was still a great opportunity afterwards, to get a photo of the three of them. Natalie was sick so she wasn’t able to go with us. That is ok. I placed the photo on top of the transparency and added the two banners plus another gold star.

December Daily 2015 Day 17

I absolutely love these silver stars and they are perfect layered with the little tiny seventeen chipboard word.

December Daily 2015 Day 17

For the right hand side I used the top card for journaling. I love the messy lines (Ali Edwards uses those a lot in her layouts and they are so easy to create).

December Daily 2015 Day 17

I took out the vellum card so I could add some of the word strips to make a sentence. I also added another strip of washi tape across the bottom, just to make it more cohesive (maybe? I dunno….).

December Daily 2015 Day 17

The other two pockets I left alone. I am so happy for all the work I put into the foundation pages, so that completing the actual days is so very simple.

December Daily 2015 Day 17

Here is one more look at the overall layout, outside of the album:

December Daily 2015 Day 17

I am loving this project so much, and am so thankful that you are following along with me. Now go, do, and create! I’ll be back tomorrow with Day 18!

See you soon,

~Theresa

December Daily 2015 Day 6!

Hi there and thanks so much for visiting my blog today! I have Day 6 to share and I just have to say what a difference a day makes. I struggled yesterday with camera and technical difficulties, and while my lens is still malfunctioning, Day 6 is completed! Hooray! First off I have a process video which shows Days 5 and 6, and also at the beginning I show Day 4 so that wasn’t missing completely on my Youtube channel.

Here is Day 6 as I originally created it in the album:

December Daily 2015 Day 06

And here is Day 6 completed. I added a vellum insert with a vertical photo, and placed journaling on the left hand side.

December Daily 2015 Day 06

On the right hand side, I added a washi strip between the vellum and the photo, and then stamped directly on top. The stamping was messy and irregular on purpose, just to go with the frustrated tone of the whole day! (And it helps me laugh about it now!)

December Daily 2015 Day 06

On the facing page I left the top two pockets as they were, but used the sweater journaling card to house my journaling. I drew my own messy lines in silver (which echoes the silver lines on the vellum) and then wrote my journaling in black (also echoing the title on the vellum).

December Daily 2015 Day 06

The little round tag I had made earlier using the Icon stamp set in Ali’s December Daily product line. The tag is embossed in white on navy cardstock, and then I added two tiny silver stars. The stamped image was punched using a 1″ punch, adhered to the tag, and then I raised it up on a pop dot to add dimension. It also goes off the page just the tiniest bit. That tag serves to tie in the little washi tape strip that holds the flip-out together. Perfect.

December Daily 2015 Day 06

Yes, I know there is a grammatical error – I was writing my stream of consciousness there and that is ok. Also for clarification, Zoe is our cat. She was trying to jump onto the counter and missed, and when she did that her claw caught the edge of my camera strap. She pulled the entire camera off the counter, right in front of my eyes. It was like a slow-motion horror film. I’m still trying to get over it, as you can tell. 🙂

I want to do a shout-out, as well. In the 8 years I have been creating December Daily albums there have been so many amazingly creative people who have inspired me and have kept me going in this process. Yesterday when I was still recovering from the camera incident, one of the scrapbookers I have long admired reached out to me in a comment on Facebook. Marie Lottermoser, I just wanted to credit you for your inspirational work and also for cheering me on! Her beautiful work can be found here at stitchintime.

I hope you enjoyed Day 6 and will come back tomorrow to see Day 7. Thank you so much for following along, and please feel free to share your own December projects if you’d like. I’d also love if you could Like, Share, Comment, and Pin. Now go, do, and create!

See you soon,

Theresa

December Daily 2015 Day 3!

Hi friends, welcome back! So Day 3 for me was one of my favorite days of the year simply because I got to spend it with my best friend and husband, Alan. We spent the day shopping and getting ready for Christmas Day. My layout for the day was really simple and quick to put together, and I even have my process video for the layout!

So here is how the layout was created in my album for the foundation pages:

December Daily 2015 Day 3.pngDecember Daily 2015 Day 3

Since I removed the page protector on the left side, that page was completely blank. I decided to use one of Ali Edwards’ digital templates to create a frame around the photo, and I also decided to use one of the promotional photos that was in a Target mailer we received. Very fitting, considering we spent an obscene amount of money there! Ha!

December Daily 2015 Day 03.pngDecember Daily 2015 Day 03

Once I printed the template, I added the stars using a star stencil from Crafter’s Workshop, and then I added a simple Joy word strip and a red star enamel dot.

December Daily 2015 Day 03

On the right hand side all I did was add the Comfort & Joy word strip and the red enamel star. And that was all it took to finish this day!

December Daily 2015 Day 03.pngDecember Daily 2015 Day 03
December Daily 2015 Day 03

And here is one more image from directly above:

December Daily 2015 Day 03.pngDecember Daily 2015 Day 03

That is it for today! I hope you are enjoying your December month and make sure you go, do, and create today!

See you back tomorrow!
