Today I am sharing Week 10 from my 2013 Project Life album. This will be a two part layout as I did an insert, so be sure to check back next week to see the second part! You can see more of my layouts from this project two ways: in this series here and also in my online class In My Pocket Vol 02! The video follows here.

This is the layout I have created, using the Studio Calico Golden Hour Documenter Kit for August 2018.

2013 Project Life Week 10 | ft. Studio Calico ft. Golden Hour Documenter!

For this particular week I chose to include one single event: going to the zoo together! I had quite a few photos from the day, and also had an excellent opportunity to get photos of each of our kiddos, so this layout warranted an insert. I love photographing our every day outings in this way, taking a few photos of each child individually and some photos of them together.

2013 Project Life Week 10 | ft. Studio Calico ft. Golden Hour Documenter!

I chose to use the Golden Hour kit because the title of the kit seems to fit with my overall feelings about this album and this layout. This time in our lives feels a whole lot like a golden hour, and I am so delighted to be able to document it.

2013 Project Life Week 10 | ft. Studio Calico ft. Golden Hour Documenter!

I have a strategy for adding my journal cards that I use in almost every layout. I begin with the date card and take color cues from that card. The 3×4 cards are alternated mostly white with more colorful, every other one. Any colors that are in the date card will be found repeated again in other areas of the layout.

2013 Project Life Week 10 | ft. Studio Calico ft. Golden Hour Documenter!

I have been simplifying my embellishing lately as well, adding just a few tiny things here and there. Maybe it is just where I am in my life – busy, sometimes overwhelmed, looking for simplicity – that the cards feel complete in their own right. Allowing this process to be quick and un-complicated gets it done and in the end, makes me even happier!

2013 Project Life Week 10 | ft. Studio Calico ft. Golden Hour Documenter!

For my insert I chose two mostly white cards and found I only wanted to add some stamping to them. I also added a few flag chipboard banners to the kids’ photos. So fun!

These smiles give me all the feels, you guys. Thank you for joining me today! See you again soon!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Hello Lovelies, today I am sharing this hybrid layout featuring the Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine digital kit. This is my layout for Week 16 in my 2018 Project Life album. If you’d like to see all my layouts and videos for 2018 Project Life, check it out here.

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

In our Hybrid Scrappers Facebook group this week we talked about one of my favorite tips for getting layouts done and using up supplies: use your favorites first. I talk about this a whole lot in both In My Pocket classes and pretty much any time I talk about supplies. For this week’s challenge we were to grab the most recent kit, collection, or product that arrived and use it in a layout. For me, the digital kit from Sahlin Studio called The Everyday Routine arrived so I was able to use it for this layout here.

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Whenever I receive a digital kit, I always open the kit on my computer and just look at all the files that are included in the kit. I take a few minutes to get a feel for the kit, think about what layout I want to use it with, and select my favorites. I open my favorites in Photoshop and print them out right away! If I already know what layout I am putting it with then of course I already know how many journal cards I need. I keep 4×6 matte card stock next to my printer so this part of the process goes quickly. For printable elements I place my favorites onto a 4×6 canvas in Photoshop and also print, then cut with scissors. Typically I will print any kind of labels, word strips, circles, and florals from a digital kit!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Once the kit is printed, and the photos are printed, then I pull just a few simple embellishments to add to my layout. For the embellishments I choose based on color, so for this layout I pulled navy and orange/yellow. This keeps the selection process fairly quick and simple and makes the actual creative process so very easy. Notice how for this layout, I added my dates using an alphabet stamp from Dear Lizzy and a roller date stamp.

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Our stories for this week were mostly about preparing the yard for summer. We rented the giant aerator you see in the photo above so we could aerate and fertilize our grass. This was a monumental task but we did it like champs! We also did plant shopping so we could plant a few things and we got those put in the ground as well. The photo below is a tongue in cheek spoof on the Grant Wood painting called American Gothic. We were in the Home Depot and needed a rake, and I totally set up the camera in the middle of the rack so we could take the shot. I printed it in black and white so it would be more authentic. Ha. I love our sense of humor!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

We also did a little shopping at the mall. While we were in the Charming Charlie’s I turned around to see the kids all piled up on this bench together, playing their games and chatting and just being so cool. I love these guys so much!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

When printing digital products I also like to just print a patterned paper, but if I am working in pocket pages I don’t print the entire 12×12 paper. You can open up the paper in Photoshop and tell it to print just a 4×6 piece of that paper, to conserve your ink.

I also filmed my process, which can be viewed here.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

Hello lovelies, today I am sharing Part B from my layout for Week 14 in my 2018 Project Life album. I started this layout last week and split it into two parts since it has an insert. This is a hybrid Project Life layout, and I am continuing to use The Lilypad Wander collection from the June Memory Pockets Monthly kit. If you would like to see all the layouts I have published in this album, you may follow this link here. Have a look at my layout!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

Here is a look at the first part of this layout, which included our Easter photos. You will find more information about this layout and the process video here.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

I absolutely love scrapbooking travel photos, and this trip had so many really good photo opportunities. Choosing the photos I wanted to include was a bit of a challenge, but I always ask myself what are the photos that convey the stories I want to tell about myself and my family? The answer for me has always come back to relationships, so I look for the photos that show the ways we share relationships with each other. Our trip to Savannah was short, but the highlights were definitely going to the beach and visiting the Children’s Museum.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

I currently have all of my recent collections from Crate Paper on my desk as I am working on the Bermuda album, so I have pulled from those collections to add my embellishments for this layout.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

This photo of our boys tells an awesome story for me. I know that, at ages 13 and 14, they are outgrown the children’s areas and activities that we did for so many years. But they enjoyed walking around this museum and played with some of the life-size games and had such a good time. This is a favorite photo because they are such awesome friends, these two, and I also love the perspective of seeing how tall they are getting now, and how grown up.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

I left my photos mostly untouched, allowing them to tell the stories in their own right. I am just here to tell you that with the kids getting so big, Alan and I are definitely outnumbered and we may need some help over here with these teenagers!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

Just a few thoughts about my color choices on this layout: The photos themselves had a lot of greens, blues, and reds (coral), so I have pulled those colors from the Wander collection. The pink/coral/red contrasts beautifully with the blues and happen to be my favorites. It was really easy to use this collection and I am loving how it works!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

I have done a lot with circles on this layout, and then for my journal card I broke that tradition by writing my journaling around the edges of the card.

I filmed my process for this layout, which you can view here as well.

These are definitely two favorite layouts and I am so glad to have this trip documented in a really simple, quick and beautiful way! Thank you for joining me today!

Bermuda Honeymoon Album | A Layout Using Maps!

Hello Lovelies, today I am sharing a layout from our Bermuda Honeymoon Album! This layout incorporates a map from the island to help tell the story. I have also used products from Crate Paper Here & There, Wild Heart, and My Minds Eye Wander. Here is the completed layout.

Bermuda Honeymoon Album | A Layout Using Maps!

Maps are the perfect ephemera to incorporate into your travel albums, and pocket pages make it so easy! I recommend as you travel, pick up several copies of the maps you use, so you can cut them up and use different portions of them in your pages. For this layout I have used half of the Bermuda map. This map helps tell the story of where we were on the island when we discovered this beautiful beach. I cut the map up to fit into the pockets and added a very simple title. The title doesn’t obscure the map since it is a simple font.

Bermuda Honeymoon Album | A Layout Using Maps!

I am continuing to document our day spent at Horseshoe Bay in this album. No lie, this was a favorite spot on the island for us! So my photos are different shots I was able to capture while exploring this beach. So many amazing rocks, contrasting against the blue sky and sea!

Bermuda Honeymoon Album | A Layout Using Maps!

The right now stamp is from rukristin shop and is a must-have. I have used a ton of Crate Paper in my recent layouts – mostly Wild Heart, Oasis, and Here and There. They have been releasing some amazing travel collections lately, and I am here for it! The Say Cheese card is from My Mind’s Eye Wander collection.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

Hello lovelies, today I am working in my 2018 Project Life album for Week 14. This layout will be split into two videos because the week had a two page spread plus an insert, so this is the left hand side and insert for you today. I am using the Memory Pocket Monthly kit from The Lilypad for June, which is called Wander. To see the full 2018 Project Life album process, you can click here. You can also learn more about my approach to this album in my pocket page memory class called In My Pocket Volume 02.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

Our photos for this week were from two main events: Easter and a short trip to Savannah, GA. Those are the starting place for this layout, so I printed the Easter photos to fill pockets on the left hand side first. Of course there were so many photos from Savannah that an insert made perfect sense here.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

I also had another starting point, the transparent hearts that were part of the previous layout. They are from Studio Calico, and since they are see through, they determine the color palette for this layout as well! The June Wander kit has these colors, plus has a travel theme, so that made the kit an easy choice here. I love when decisions come together so easily like that.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

Easter for us is typically fairly laid back, and even though our kids are getting older I still like to do Easter baskets for them. It’s always fun to find little goodies for them, and of course who doesn’t love chocolate?! I know in future years we will enjoy having documentation of what was in those baskets, and they will remember.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

These photos easily become a time capsule of what they were wearing, what kinds of candy they liked, and what they were into right now. This is also a winding down for us, since there is no more Easter bunny so their baskets are more simple and becoming more grown up. This is definitely what I want to remember from right now, and I am loving Project Life for giving the space to document this.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

Our trip to Savannah was not a long one, but I definitely took lots of photos and am excited to include our journey into this album as well. For today I am just beginning with the insert, a 6×12 with simple photos and a few journal cards. You will recognize some of the photos already, because I have been creating 12×12 layouts from this trip as well. I love how including it right here puts the trip into the entire context of our life. Easter and Spring Break were in the same week for us, and so this is how this week happened for us.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

I also love how easy it is, when doing hybrid layouts, to print digital journal cards and then incorporate simple embellishments into the layout. I typically print my journal cards on 8.5×11 matte card stock (these are Kodak brand) and then I drop a few of the digital elements onto a 4×6 card and print and cut those by hand. For this layout I have used card stock alphabet from Simple Stories, a flair button from Crate Paper, label stickers and photo polymer stamp from Studio Calico, and a few chipboard pieces from my stash.

I also have filmed my process video for this layout, which you can view here.

Thank you so much for joining me today! Be sure to join us in the Hybrid Scrappers Facebook Group for fun chatter, inspiration, and challenges.
