Project Life 2017

Project Life 2017 Week 46 | ft. One Canoe Two Plus Giveaway Announcement!

Hello lovelies, today I am sharing one of the last few layouts in my 2017 Project Life album! This is my layout for Week 46. I am so excited to be wrapping up this album, so be sure to stay tuned for the next layouts. In this layout I have chosen to work with some of the One Canoe Two products, including Hazelwood, Creekside, and Twilight.

Have a look at my completed layout here.

Our stories for this week included the kitty in the bowl, Alan hard at work in his office upstairs, the girls creating their own Advent calendars, and a lovely origami fox family that Natalie created. I also finished up my Christmas morning photos class that week. This is at the end of the year in November and so I am admittedly very light on photos at this time, because I typically prepare for December Daily in November. I still like to include the photos I do have and take the time to reflect, ponder, and cherish this time.

To begin my creative process I cut one of the patterned papers as the base for my date card, and layered a label on top. I then stamped my dates with a Studio Calico date stamp set that is designed by One Little Bird and added the floral element sticker. Such a simple but very beautiful formula for creating your date card.

The Twilight collection had a cut apart sheet, so I have used several of the elements from that sheet as journal cards. They make for great layering pieces that you can add labels or white card stock to, for your journaling.

I had a sequin pocket from the week before, which is particularly fun! I just made sure those colors are continued in this layout as well. That isn’t really hard to do, if you feel intimidated by see through elements. I really loved carrying the pink and the gold into this page.

I just love this project still, after so many years, and I love the opportunities to include these quiet everyday events in our lives. Thank you for joining me today!

And now to announce the give-away winner!

Last week I released a brand new collection called Lovin’ the Sun and I asked you to tell me what your summer vacation plans are. It is so much fun to hear your plans and I am looking forward to our summer here as well. We are planning a stacation, no plans for travel for us.

Our winner for this give away is Lizzy Hill, who tells us she is visiting the USA from Australia this summer! I hope you enjoy the collection and your trip! Thank you all for playing along!

Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

Hello Lovelies, I am so excited to share my Halloween layout from last year with you! I am so very close to finishing this album and only have a few layouts remaining because I finish up in November each year. My layout today is the layout for Halloween, which, if you know me, is a favorite layout every single year! I am using collections from Pebbles: Midnight Haunting; Pink Paislee: Spellcast; and a bit of One Canoe Two Twilight!

Here is a look at the completed layout.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

Oh goodness, this layout has my whole heart. Here are the details.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

For this week’s layout I chose one story, Halloween. This is an all-time favorite in our house, and this year I am cherishing that everyone still wanted to dress up and go out! It may be the last year they all want to, I don’t take that for granted, and it makes this layout even more special to me!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

I wanted to use the Pink Paislee Spellbound collection even though there isn’t much of it still available, and I also added a bit of Pebbles Midnight Haunting to go with it. For my date card I began with that amazing hexagon patterned paper and a banner. The week number was created with Thickers from One Canoe Two.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

One challenge when using traditional scrapbook collections is finding places for journaling. I always pull plain white card stock for plain white cards, and add a few lines with stamps. There was a weird cream vibe in these collections, to be sure, but the Spellcast collection also has some white in it, so I have used both in this layout! Gasp!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

This year we had a fox, a goddess, a business Narwhal, and a character from Assassin’s Creed. (Our kids do not play that game, but the costume is just that – fun dress-up!) I always love to take their photos in front of the garage on that day. We get dressed a few minutes early so that there is time to take photos and then get on with the fun!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

On the left side of the layout my photos were of all four kids together, and on this side I included each person’s photo by themselves. I have always tried, wherever possible, to give each child their moment in the camera lens so they each know how important and cared for they are. It is so much fun every year to embellish their photos!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

The spider on Addison’s photo literally did fall out of the package and scared me half to death! Ha! And that is where it landed, so I attached it right there and I love it! I also did another journal card here with plain white card stock and a lined stamp – and I added the circle sticker across the bottom. So very simple and uncomplicated!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 44 | A Halloween Layout!!!!

I have also added a few of the stars from Pinkfresh Studio The Mix. There were some black ones and orange ones that fit perfectly onto this layout and add the right little touches to my photos. They are awesome!

Thank you for joining me on this scary adventure today! I always love sharing these layouts with you and I hope you feel inspired as well!

Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards & Like A Boss!!!

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing this lovely layout from my 2017 Project Life album for Week 35. I am using the Sahlin Studio Monthly calendar cards and the Like A Boss kit. Have a look at my entire process here.

Our stories for this particular week included a heavy travel week for Alan, so preparations for that, taking care of the kids via solo parenting for me, and some awesome photos that Alan took while he was in Texas!

Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards %26 Like A Boss!!!

I am loving the beautiful colors on the Monthly calendar cards from Sahlin Studio! In our creative world it can be difficult sometimes to choose a kit or product to use in our layouts, but I’ve used this calendar card as a jumping off point for the whole layout. I looked in the Sahlin Studio shop to see what other collections feature this color, and Like A Boss was an immediate winner! Yay for easy decision-making!

Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards %26 Like A Boss!!!

I’ve printed only the journaling cards I needed to complete my layout, and my formula for selecting those is also pretty straightforward: print your favorites. Print the ones you LOVE. I was listening to another scrapbooker a few days ago who repeated this sentiment. Instead of saving the ones you love, go ahead and USE the ones you love. You’ll be so glad you did!

Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards %26 Like A Boss!!!

I’ve added just a few tiny embellishments to some of the cards, the leaves here are from Felicity Jane, as is the rubber Home Sweet Home piece. The wood 2017 veneer is from a Gossamer Blue kit several years back.

Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards %26 Like A Boss!!!

I have also used a few tiny embellishments from Freckled Fawn. I have to tell you guys, the embellishment kits are always near my desk and I reach for them on almost every layout I make! Here the labels, the chipboard word sticker, and the washi tape add simple touches.

Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards %26 Like A Boss!!!
Project Life 2017 Week 35 | Using Sahlin Studio Monthly Cards %26 Like A Boss!!!

For the second page I’ve included a photo of the kids while we were having dinner. The story is about Addison trying to tell us all about some things that they were going over in class, but it was pretty far over my head so I know it was over the others’ heads too! He forgets he is the oldest (and no doubt the smartest too!). But I am in awe of him, even when I have to remind him that what happens in his classes needs to stay in his classes, and how bright he is. He has a very acute memory!

Since I had most of my journaling complete, and the title card done, this 4×6 card with the fun squares becomes a filler card and just a place to have fun. So I added just the tiniest embellishments that would fit inside those squares! They of course repeat the colors and textures across the page and give an awesome opportunity to use them up!

What a fun layout, thank you for following along today! See you again soon!

2017 Project Life Album B Introduction Layout Using Studio Calico Documenter!!

Hi lovelies, today I am sharing the Introduction Layout in my 2017 Album B. I chose to use the Studio Calico Gypsy Moon Documenter kit and there may also be pieces from the Scrapbook kit as well. Studio Calico very generously sent me the scrapbook kit several months ago and I have so much enjoyed using it and sharing those layouts with you!

I think I have reached for this kit several times and love each layout! For the opening layout in this album I chose two fall photos – one serious and one quite silly – and the fall feel of the kit fit perfectly.

2017 Project Life Album B Introduction Layout Using Studio Calico Documenter!!

The title card is so very simple, just the actual title, a word strip, and a few leaves. I also placed a few very deliberate paint splatters, just to tie all the separate elements together.

2017 Project Life Album B Introduction Layout Using Studio Calico Documenter!!

For my introduction layouts I like including our family initial and here it is found on our silly photo, just the tiniest M along with a little cluster. I love this so much!

2017 Project Life Album B Introduction Layout Using Studio Calico Documenter!!

I wanted to repeat those fabulous leaves so I layered them along with the phrase die cut and a fun cork arrow for the filler card. I’ve also repeated arrows around the page as well. Notice how I used one card that has all the colors of the layout, two neutral cards, and then other cards that pull out colors from the title card. This is a simple, repeatable formula for cohesive layouts!

2017 Project Life Album B Introduction Layout Using Studio Calico Documenter!!

For the main photo I punched one of the word elements that was part of a journaling card in the kit. I’ve used one of the We R Memory Keepers tab punches and layered it with another cork arrow.

Project Life 2017 Album A Walk Through!!

Woohoo throw confetti, you guys, I am done with the first half of 2017!  I am sharing my Album A, which is chock full of pages created using Photoshop CC, and then embellished after printing. I anticipate picking back up in January to work on the second half.

Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August Observations

Hi guys, today I am sharing my layout in my 2017 Project Life album for Week 23! I have combined digital and physical products today. The digital kit is the August Memory Pockets Monthly kit from The Lilypad, and the physical kit is my Felicity Jane Kate kit!

Our stories this week included Nick’s 13th birthday, a chaotic day in the neighborhood where a gas line was cut, and we finally got our Nintendo Switch!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August ObservationsLarkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August Observations

The Felicity Jane Kate numbers called to me and just begged to be used on a Project Life spread, so I printed this geometric card on my page and then layered the numbers on top. I also used the Felicity Jane puffy alphabet for the week, and those tiny little adorable hearts balance the card out.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August ObservationsLarkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August Observations

I love combining The Lilypad kits with other physical products! The colors in the kits are always very flexible and go with lots of different products! The August Observations kit is no different! So many fun, bright colors!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August ObservationsLarkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August Observations

Has anyone else been trying to the the Nintendo Switch? It’s their latest gaming platform and it has been marketed heavily to Splatoon fans. Natalie is our Splatoon fan and she has been dying to get the Switch, but they released it through pre-order and I think it is still only available if you pre-order it! So we finally pre-ordered it and not even a week later it arrived! Lots of happy faces here!

For the digital template I used the Paislee Press Pocket Guide No 01, and this 3×4 card in mint is one of the cards in that template. The white borders around my photos with text also are part of that template!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August ObservationsLarkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August Observations

For the right hand side I used the word art from the Paislee Press template as well. In contrast to the bright pink on the left, I used a mint background on this side.

I absolutely love these photos of the kids all together on the front porch. They tell quite the stories, year after year. Natalie is right in the middle of a major growth spurt, can you tell?!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August ObservationsLarkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 23 | ft. The Lilypad MPM August Observations

I had so much fun creating this journal card at the bottom of the layout! I needed lots of space to journal, but the tab and scallop die cuts from the Kate kit are perfect accents.

There’s nothing like a little scare every now and again to remind you of how fortunate we are, and this was definitely one of those weeks. We have had contractors in and out of our neighborhood digging up everyone’s yards to install new infastructure, and for the house at the end of our cul-de-sac it almost ended in disaster. They hit a gas line and so our street was tied off for a good part of the day, the fire trucks showed up, and it was overall chaos. Luckily everything turned out ok, but I sure am thankful for our happy little corner of the world!

Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!

Hi guys! In this video I am sharing my digital process in Photoshop CC for creating my 2017 Project Life layout for Week 18.

This is the hybrid portion of my 2017 Project Life Week 18 layout, where I embellish the printed layout!

Let’s take a look at the layout overall. Since it seemed like I was light on photos this week I used some templates that were designed for 6×8 and enlarged them to 9×12. The remaining margins were left white with two embellishment clusters.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!

I began with the date card, using the rubber word from the Studio Calico May Documenter kit. I layered the numbers onto a label and added the purple puffy heart and happy emoji.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!

One of the embellishment clusters lives on the lower left hand side, next to the photo. The camera is from the MPM kit and the vellum heart + acrylic star are Elle’s Studio.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 18 | ft. The Lilypad MPM July Kit Snapshots!!

Our stories this week included flowers from my lovely husband, an awesome date night, another Sunday afternoon playing Dungeons & Dragons, and my totally cute purse! Just the usual, but always fun to document.

On the right hand side I repeated another embellishment cluster, this time with a vellum star and acrylic heart. I also used my favorite washi tape as journal lines trick on this layout. I chose mint green and navy to repeat colors in the kit.

Project Life 2017 Week 10

Hi guys, today I am sharing my hybrid process for Week 10 in my 2017 Project Life album! I have combined my digital and physical process, and if you wish to skip past the digital part you can click to the 12-minute mark to get to the physical embellishing. This week I am working with Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Pockets, the April MPM Renew kit from The Lilypad, and physical embellishments from Elle’s Studio and the Freckled Fawn April kit.

Our stories for this week included SPRING! Lots and lots of flowers beginning to pop after so much rain and the girls are already playing in the sprinklers, so that means bathing suit purchases. We added two trees to our front flower bed and it always makes me to happy to include photos from our humble front yard. Also, there are always happy cats just being, well, cats.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

My date card ended up a little different than planned on this week’s layout. My original thought was to use the top journal card as the date card, but then I wanted more room for journaling.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

I couldn’t resist the April releases at Elle’s Studio so I ordered a few of their acrylic shapes, wood veneer pieces, and a stamp set. Their embellishments really are fun!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

We had been talking about adding a taller tree to the corner of the house for quite a long time, and this week we did it. We had to expand the flower bed and the stone border a bit, and we also added more pine straw and freshened everything up a bit. I love the fact that we built these original flower beds ourselves as part of the Sweat Equity program, and we have filled them a little bit more each year with plants and flowers that bring us joy every day. It’s so awesome!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

To Alan’s credit, our yard would not be what it is without him. He does so much of the heavy lifting and the planting and he is actually the green thumb between us! I love capturing this part of our relationship.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

The date card ended up being on the bottom right hand side this week, and I love using the large photo as the home base for the date. Notice I did not add the actual dates to this layout, only the week number!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

The photo of me and Natalie is a quick selfie we took on our way to Pastries with Parents at her school, and I am realizing now that I did not really caption that. I really am working on that this year – I am finding that including more photos creates more opportunities to journal more but I am overlooking some of those opportunities! And that is ok, no judgment there but something that I want to continue to be aware of and take a little more time each week to include captions for each photo in some way.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

Of course, not all photos need a caption and I don’t always remember the context of each photo as well, and that is ok too. I think what I am finding is that sometimes I do my journaling in Photoshop and purposely leave some of the journaling to be done by hand, and then I forget when I go back. Ah the joys of being all over the place in my head! Again, this is not a criticism but simply an assessment that is constantly part of my process – looking back over the layout and seeing what is working and what isn’t, and then making an effort next time.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

All in all this is a really fun layout and I loved pulling it together, and I am so happy to share my process with you here. I would love to hear your thoughts about journaling in hybrid layouts, how do you try to include both digital journaling and hand-written journaling on your layouts?

See you soon,

Theresa

Project Life 2017 Week 09

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my process for completing my hybrid layout for Week 09 in my 2017 Project Life album! Yesterday you saw my process for creating the digital layout using Paislee Press templates and kits, and today I will add embellishments plus journaling to the printed pages.

Digital products are by Paislee Press and are available at The Lilypad by clicking the following links:

Photocentric Template No. 03
Rainy Days Digital Kit

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

Our stories for this week included lots of rain, which was perfect for the Paislee Press Rainy Days collection! We also had Spirit Week at Natalie’s school, and some of the spring flowers began to pop all around us!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

I began with the date card using this Love card and then stamping the dates directly to the layout. The stamp set is by One Little Bird, available at Studio Calico and it is a staple in my collection these days!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

Many years ago I attended a small private college called Meredith College, where I got my design degree. Natalie wanted to wear something for Spirit Week and so I let her wear this sweatshirt that I have held onto forever. So much fun!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

The theme for the week was most definitely rain, rain and more rain. Sometimes you just gotta make the best of it, and there were several days we actually walked in the rain. Silly photos are a must in those cases!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

I loved this photo of the street leading into our neighborhood, with blue sky just beginning to peek out but the ground is still wet. I have been holding onto this cloud wood veneer forever, so it is perfect right there!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

You may have noticed a slight boo-boo when I printed this layout: the grey frame in the center of this layout still had the template text on it! No worries at all, it is now hidden underneath the label and the little stamped house. The stamps used on this side of the page are older sets from Gossamer Blue last fall.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 09

That is all for today, thank you for following along! See you again soon!
