Hybrid Process | 2017 Project Life Week 17 ft. Freckled Fawn!!

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my process for creating my 2017 Project Life Week 17 layout. The hybrid layout was created in Photoshop CC using Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Templates and Paislee Press Weekend Vibes. My digital process is in the video here!

Now for the fun part, the embellishing!

Let’s take a look at the finished layout:

Our stories for this week included giving up cable for Netflix, progress in the yard in which the hosta have taken over, organizing our chaotic candy cabinet, and a sweet boy with his bunny.

The Weekend Vibes collection is particularly neutral with great little pops of color, so the punch in my layout comes from the bright happy colors in the Freckled Fawn kit! The transparent numbers absolutely had to be used!

When I designed this card in Photoshop, I left blank space on purpose so I could add physical embellishments. I used the stamps as a home base for the hearts. I also added washi tape above the word strips along with the chipboard word strips.

For the right hand side I started with photos of our messy candy cabinet and I loved this word art from Paislee Press, chaotic and messy, to tie it all together. I also was so in love with these sunglasses from Freckled Fawn that I just had to use them too! So I just did a fun little cluster right on top of the photo of my flowers.

And the photos of our messy candy stash: do you ever have places in your house that just bug the crap out of you and finally you tackle it and get control over the situation?! Well that was our candy situation until this week! Now everyone has their own little bucket and that is it. Whew!

I loved capturing this adorable photo of Addison with the bunny after giving the bunny his bath and I love that Project Life still gives a wonderful place for photos like this. I love how these moments fit into the context of the whole week.

Another favorite capture: Alan cooking dinner for everybody. He does a large majority of the cooking in our house and it means the world to me. I am so incredibly thankful for all the hard work he does to keep our house going!

Felicity Jane Willow + Sahlin Studio Viewpoint | Bermuda Layout No. 09

Hi guys, today I am sharing a process that came about from a viewer request! Marybeth Lysen asked me if I could think of any digital kits that would coordinate with Felicity Jane kits, and boy can I! So I created this layout from our Bermuda honeymoon album using Felicity Jane Willow and Sahlin Studio Viewpoint collections.

Have a look at the completed layout here:

“/>

So let’s take a look at the left hand side, which is a pocket page. For this side I chose journal cards from the Felicity Jane Willow collection and embellished as usual.

I began this side of the layout with a photo we took of ourselves on hotel property before we left for adventures of exploring the island. On that particular day we took the buses around the island, and my story is that we discovered Alan did not care for the buses!

Alan struggles at times with motion sickness, and the buses on the island really messed with him, so that is why we decided to rent the scooters. I actually thought it was kind of hilarious that he thought the buses weren’t safe – they were really fast and the roads were really narrow – but I actually loved them! But of course I didn’t want him to be sick! I absolutely adore this photo of our helmets together. So cute!

For the right hand side I used another photo we took in the same spot, of our feet. In the process video I shared how I made that photo just a tiny bit longer so it was big enough to fit this space.

For this side I chose two of the pattern papers in the Sahlin Studio Viewpoint collection, and then embellished on top using the Willow collection. This allowed me to plan and print the photo as I needed it, and also to print just the parts of the papers I needed as well.

I kept embellishing to a minimum simply because I wanted the focus to be this strong diagonal lines created by the pattern paper. The white space in the photo was perfect for a bit of title work.

I hope you enjoyed this process today! I love using a mix of products and love that it helps use my supplies over a wide range of projects.

Project Life 2017 Week 12 | ft. Sahlin Studio Viewpoint!!!

Hi guys! I am so excited to share my layout with you from our 2017 Project Life album for Week 12. This is a one page layout using the Sahlin Studio June featured kit called Viewpoint!

Our stories and photos this week included dining in the sunshine, One more sick child, and being together. There were also photos from a trip to the park, which were used as the basis for a previous layout. I will share these two layouts side by side at the end of the post.

I began with my date card, and the white space on this card provided the perfect place for contrasting alphabets. The black foam alpha is Maggie Holmes, and the March 19-25 is Studio Calico.

I love how the Clean Lined Templates give so many opportunities for more photos. I love the idea of selecting one or two main photos for the week, and the rest are supporting photos.

The Viewpoints journal cards are awesome for journaling, friends. I am keeping my promise to include typed and hand-written journaling in my layouts this year.

I really love these snaps from lunch one day. I took a photo pointing down at the table, and then turned the camera up to take a photo of the sky and the umbrella at our table. I have always loved eating alfresco!

Project Life 2017 Week 11 ft. Sahlin Studio You Are Here!!!!

Hi guys! This is a layout I created for my 2017 Project Life album week 11. The project is for the Sahlin Studio Creative Team and features the You Are Here collection available at The Lilypad!

Here is a look at the full layout!

Our stories this week included a random cat who climbed up on the kitchen cabinets just to glare at us, a fun new game that is now a regular Sunday event, another one with the flu, and of course the premier of Beauty and the Beast!

I am loving this project so much! This year it feels like I have relaxed my photography a bit and have given myself permission to snap the photos I want without worrying about whether they are perfect or not. And they aren’t perfect, by any means, but they are happy and it has helped me feel free to take more pictures!

I used my washi tape for lines again this week and love doing that.

I also really liked using the Let the Adventures Begin card! Life is an adventure every day, and also the kids are beginning new adventures in making new friends, inviting friends over, and that makes my heart so happy for them.

My week card was particularly fun to put together this week. I grabbed these alphas from Pink Paislee/Paige Evans to add a pop of color and tie in the blues and yellows. The hearts are from Elle’s Studio.

It was a really rough winter in terms of illness this year – every week we had someone sick, home from school, making up work. This week was Emberlynn’s turn. We all felt so bad for her!

Check out these adorable masks that Alan found, printed out, and cut out for us before the Beauty and the Beast premier! I really did feel like a princess that night, going to see a movie on the first night it opened!

Project Life 2017 Week 10

Hi guys, today I am sharing my hybrid process for Week 10 in my 2017 Project Life album! I have combined my digital and physical process, and if you wish to skip past the digital part you can click to the 12-minute mark to get to the physical embellishing. This week I am working with Sahlin Studio Clean Lined Pockets, the April MPM Renew kit from The Lilypad, and physical embellishments from Elle’s Studio and the Freckled Fawn April kit.

Our stories for this week included SPRING! Lots and lots of flowers beginning to pop after so much rain and the girls are already playing in the sprinklers, so that means bathing suit purchases. We added two trees to our front flower bed and it always makes me to happy to include photos from our humble front yard. Also, there are always happy cats just being, well, cats.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

My date card ended up a little different than planned on this week’s layout. My original thought was to use the top journal card as the date card, but then I wanted more room for journaling.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

I couldn’t resist the April releases at Elle’s Studio so I ordered a few of their acrylic shapes, wood veneer pieces, and a stamp set. Their embellishments really are fun!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

We had been talking about adding a taller tree to the corner of the house for quite a long time, and this week we did it. We had to expand the flower bed and the stone border a bit, and we also added more pine straw and freshened everything up a bit. I love the fact that we built these original flower beds ourselves as part of the Sweat Equity program, and we have filled them a little bit more each year with plants and flowers that bring us joy every day. It’s so awesome!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

To Alan’s credit, our yard would not be what it is without him. He does so much of the heavy lifting and the planting and he is actually the green thumb between us! I love capturing this part of our relationship.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

The date card ended up being on the bottom right hand side this week, and I love using the large photo as the home base for the date. Notice I did not add the actual dates to this layout, only the week number!

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

The photo of me and Natalie is a quick selfie we took on our way to Pastries with Parents at her school, and I am realizing now that I did not really caption that. I really am working on that this year – I am finding that including more photos creates more opportunities to journal more but I am overlooking some of those opportunities! And that is ok, no judgment there but something that I want to continue to be aware of and take a little more time each week to include captions for each photo in some way.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

Of course, not all photos need a caption and I don’t always remember the context of each photo as well, and that is ok too. I think what I am finding is that sometimes I do my journaling in Photoshop and purposely leave some of the journaling to be done by hand, and then I forget when I go back. Ah the joys of being all over the place in my head! Again, this is not a criticism but simply an assessment that is constantly part of my process – looking back over the layout and seeing what is working and what isn’t, and then making an effort next time.

Larkindesign Project Life 2017 Week 10

All in all this is a really fun layout and I loved pulling it together, and I am so happy to share my process with you here. I would love to hear your thoughts about journaling in hybrid layouts, how do you try to include both digital journaling and hand-written journaling on your layouts?

See you soon,

Theresa
