Clique Kits July Blog Hop | This Is Me Scrapbook Layout

Hello Lovelies and welcome to this stop on the Clique Kits July Blog Hop! You have arrived here from Nupur Patel and will find the next stop at Kayla Webber. Thanks for playing along!

I have been having so much fun with my July Regatta kit from Clique Kits this month! The collections from Fancy Pants, Kesi’Art, and Carta Bella came together for some really fun summer themed layouts. This is the layout I created for today’s Blog Hop.

Clique Kits July Blog Hop | This Is Me Scrapbook Layout

I was so much in love with the Amy Tangerine bows that were part of the kit and were also available to purchase in the July Add-ons! So they were my starting point, along with a fun photo I had of myself taken from a recent Instagram Story.I decided to cut a quick cut file using one of the colors of the bows – the mint green/light blue. The cut file is available in my shop for free, if you would like you can download it here.

Clique Kits July Blog Hop | This Is Me Scrapbook Layout

The cut file has lovely circles that I wanted to highlight and also use as a home base for other embellishments and my journaling. So I have used circle punches to punch two different size circles – the 2″ and the 1 3/4″ punches. The 2″ circles are adhered underneath the cut file to fill in some of the background.

Clique Kits July Blog Hop | This Is Me Scrapbook Layout

I then layered the smaller circles in different places around the layout, and added bows to some of the intersecting points of the cut file. Then I added my journaling strips plus a few fun dimensional embellishments to those circles as well. For my title I used the glitter alphabet from the May Clique Kit which are from Dear Lizzy. I love when you can pull in products from previous kits to get more mileage from your supplies!

My journaling was created very quickly on a canvas in Photoshop and then printed on matte card stock. I chose to list a few things about myself right now, at almost 45 years old. I actually turn 45 in October, so I did a little tongue in cheek on the title and added the Almost with asterisks. These are the fun things I listed out:

  • crazy talented
  • kicking butt every day
  • self-aware and self-sufficient
  • conscientious and loving parent
  • loves color and pattern
  • not taking crap from anybody
  • believes in magic and the afterlife

50 First Layouts | Stay Magical A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

Hey everyone, today I am sharing a layout that is part of my 50 First Layouts Series! I am using Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful to create this mixed media layout about our kiddos when we were visiting Asheville, NC last year.

Here is a closer look at the full layout.

50 First Layouts | Stay Magical A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

I started off with an amazing background using Shimmerz paints – these are the Inklingz in Steely Blue Eyes, Blue Lagoon, and Bahama Mama. You can purchase these paints by clicking here.

50 First Layouts | Stay Magical A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

I also used a silkscreen from Studio Calico and paints from Heidi Swapp to add some tiny stars and splatters to that background. When that was all dried I layered my flowers on the right hand side. I fussy cut them all out from one of the Dear Lizzy patterned papers, and then once they were adhered to the page I ran my sewing machine over the whole things. Ah the layers!

50 First Layouts | Stay Magical A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

I’ve also added some stamps from Pinkfresh Studio around the page. It gives the background more dimension and ties it in beautifully with the photo and other elements of the layout.

I popped the title up using pop dots, added a few more embellishments + journaling, and call this one done. I love everything about this layout, how about you?

See you again soon,

Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

Hi everyone! I am sooooo excited to share this gorgeous mixed media scrapbook layout with you today! I picked up Vicki Boutin’s All The Good Things collection plus her paints, glitter, and mixed media paper and pulled it all together in this layout. I absolutely love the results and I hope you do too! You can watch my full process video here.

I was so excited to receive my package with All The Good Things and couldn’t wait to try all the new paints and products I had bought! I was really anxious to try the mixed media paper, which has been designed especially to accept paint and other mixed media and not buckle or warp. It worked beautifully for this layout!

Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

My first step in creating this layout was to go ahead and gesso the whole page, even though I don’t think you have to do that to the Vicki Boutin papers. I like to do that just to get warmed up and feel like I am not working on a blank page (yes, weird, I know!). Once I had the gesso down, I used modeling paste to build my background. Notice the floral elements I added to the page, starting at the upper left hand corner and traveling across to the bottom right.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

Once I had the floral elements down, it was time to add paint. My favorite part of the creative process is laying down wet paint and then turning the paper to allow the paint to flow. Watching the paint flow into all the crevices and tiny places created by the modeling paste is so cathartic to me! For this layout I allowed the purple to flow to the edges and then worked it around the page for the border. The purple and orange paints also flow across to the individual elements on the page so they are all tied together. I added a bit of teal to each flower, and I also splattered a little to add more depth and dimension to the background.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

Once all the paint was down, I added a little glitter mixed with glaze onto the page. I used the text stencil from Vicki, not necessarily to have a noticeable text, but just to have a way to put the glitter down in small places near the embellishment clusters. For me, the painted floral elements become home bases for my embellishment clusters, and the gold glitter adds more texture.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

Another awesome part of creating this layout was adding the die cut embellishments. The All The Good Things collection ties in beautifully with the paint colors, so I chose elements with purple, orange, and green, plus I added a little pink and yellow. I absolutely LOVE using color, all the colors (!!!) in my layouts!

Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

The last thing my layout needed was a bit of journaling and a title. The glitter foam words describe my expression in the photo, and the emotion I wanted this layout to convey perfectly! I also stamped my date using a roller stamp, and wrote my journaling with the help of a few stamped lines.

What an awesome layout to create and I hope you enjoyed watching the process! Have you tried the new Vicki Boutin products? I’d love to see! Thanks for following along today, see you soon!

New In The Shop: You Are My Star Silhouette Cut File

Hi everyone, it is Freebie Friday here today and that means a new cut file, called You Are My Star! This is a print and cut file, so if you are able to print 12×12 you can print this out and then have your cutting machine cut it out for you. Click on the image below to download the product.

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

Here is the layout I created with this file. I was inspired by a photo of Alan and myself as we were getting ready to drive to a mini vacation!

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

My plan for this cut file was to have just parts of the stars fold over so the background paper could peek through. I chose this coral color, which contrasts beautifully against the navy Dear Lizzy specialty paper. All the products used in this layout are from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection, with the exception of the wood veneer stars, which are Studio Calico.

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

I layered my photo onto other patterned papers from the collection and then added little bits and bobs around the photo as well. The hot air balloons in particular carried a particular feeling I wanted this layout to convey: we were going away for a few days without the kids and so it really did feel like we were wild and free!

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

I used a chipboard title Wild & Free, which is layered onto the black and white florals that I hand cut from the patterned papers.

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

Such a fun little cut file! You can watch my process video for the layout here:

I hope you enjoyed seeing this layout come together! Now go download the file and make something! Be sure to use #larkindesigntm if you share online, so I can see!

Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

Hi lovelies! Today I am sharing this lovely layout about bad Mondays – do you have them?! I did this week and oh boy, it set me back a bit. So I settled in to practice a bit of creative self care. In this layout I am working with Paige Evans brand new collection called Turn the Page and the Triangle cut file from Paper Issues!

Here is a look at the completed layout:

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

There are so many yummy things about this layout, so let’s start with the cut file from Paper Issues. I love the triangles and I wanted to cut the 2×2 papers to fit behind the cut file.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

I used my Studio Calico paints to create a really subtle background, and you can just see it peeking out behind my title work. Paint is one of my favorite ways to practice creative self care: moving the brush around the page is so very satisfying to me!

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

My title began with the days of the week wood words from Freckled Fawn and I have borrowed the words of Monday Monday, a song by The Mamas and The Papas. I know, can’t you just hear it in your head now? The rest of the title is made using the alphabet from Turn the Page. My journaling fit perfectly in between the lines here.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

At the top of the page I added just a tiny banner from the 2×2 paper pad. This establishes the boundary of the layout here, so your eye knows exactly where this layout ends.

I am so glad you joined me today! This was a fun layout and a great way to practice creative self care during a really rough week. See you soon!

Today I am beginning a new series that I hope to bring on the first Friday of every month called Freebie Friday!!!! I am so excited to bring a new concept in using Silhouette cut files called Cut ‘N Fold. I am offering this cut file on my blog for free so you can download and use it for your own personal layouts. Please do not give this cut file to others, however I would LOVE to see what you create with it. Please tag me @larkindesigntm or #larkindesigntm!

I hope to release a new cut file every month, so be sure to subscribe and look for a new cut file on the first Friday of each month!!!!

Larkindesign Freebie Friday Free Cut File!!!!!!

To download click the above link. You will be asked to add it to your cart and then check out. This cut file is free, there is no charge to you! Once you check out you will receive an email with the zipped file. You can then unzip the file and use it in your die machine as you wish!

My design concept is to use the cut file in my layouts and allow the background or patterned paper behind it to show through. So each cut file will have a series of fold lines that you can fold over or raise up to reveal your patterned paper or card stock. Here is my layout I created using this cut file.

Larkindesign Freebie Friday | My Heart Is Yours Free Cut File!!!!!!

I have used the Maggie Holmes Crate Paper collection for this layout, with the gold alphabet for my title and word strips + puffy stickers for tiny embellishment clusters on random hearts. For this layout I decided to fold half of the hearts over to allow more of the background patterned paper to show through!

Larkindesign Freebie Friday | My Heart Is Yours Free Cut File!!!!!!

I wrote my journaling around the white card stock. This is part of my Things I Need to Hear series where I remind myself, and you, dear viewer, that I am loved and you are loved. Sometimes it is hard to hear it and hard to believe it, but it is true and it is real.

Traveler’s Notebook Favorite Things Edition | Nico the Cat

Hi guys! Today I am sharing a traveler’s notebook spread I created using my Gossamer Blue kits! This layout is in my Favorite Things Notebook and is about my cat Nico.

I am so very sad to hear that Gossamer Blue will no longer be offering their lovely subscriptions and products. I have truly loved being a subscriber over the last few years and the last few kits have been absolutely amazing. I hope to continue using the May, June, July, and August kits up for a while. This is today’s layout:

Larkindesign Traveler%27s Notebook Favorite Things Edition | Nico the Cat

I am loving this yellow polka dot paper, so it is the starting point for the layout. I cut a square and then cut that in half diagonally. Everything is then layered on top of that.

Larkindesign Traveler%27s Notebook Favorite Things Edition | Nico the Cat

One of the 3×4 cards had these darling little scallops, so I hand cut those and used those as home bases for my embellishment clusters.

Larkindesign Traveler%27s Notebook Favorite Things Edition | Nico the Cat

I also used the tiny dot stamp to add a little color to the background.

Traditional 12×12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!

Hi guys!!! I just could not wait to share this amazing layout with you! I took one of the photos we had from our recent trip to the NC mountains and the amazingly gorgeous Maggie Holmes Carousel collection and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Oh my goodness, I could not wait to share this layout with you! I am such a fan of Maggie Holmes’ collections and Carousel is a knock-out!!!! Take a look at what I did.

Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!

I began with this giant starburst paper – the color is stunning and it provides a fantastic contrast with the green and blue in my photo. It also echoes the sentiment in the photo and my journaling!

Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!

The kite paper was just begging to be cut up and included on the layout somehow, so I cut out two of them and created floating embellishment clusters going up the page. My design concept for this page is a very vertical kind of layout, leading your eye up and out.

Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!

My design concept for this layout is to lead your eye up and out so I began with a stunning oversize title. I loved mixing the alphabets and the die cuts to create this title!

Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!Larkindesign Traditional 12x12 Layout | Walk With Me ft. Maggie Holmes Carousel!!!!!!

My journaling echoes the sentiment of the title and the design concept: this idea that Alan and I are on a path of life together and the path is only going up and forward. Ever forward, towards the sun. I used some of the scalloped packaging for my journal card and then added a few tiny embellishments and sequins around it.

On the other side of my photo is this other little lovely embellishment cluster that includes a floral die cut, word sticker, glitter star, and more sequins. I also sprinkled some of those adorable pom poms around each embellishment cluster too, sort of like enamel dots!

Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

Hi guys! Today I am joining Lea in the Summer Scrappy Challenge! Lea asked me to send her a challenge and she would complete the challenge as part of this Saturday’s festivities! How fun is that! Be sure to check out her channel and all the awesome challenges at her You Tube channel here: ScrapandPlanwithLea.

Also check out the Crafty Channel Surf Facebook Group, where you can submit your layouts and win some AMAZING prizes!!!!

So my challenge to Lea was to take a scrapbook layout and recreate it as a traveler’s notebook layout, or flip it and take a traveler’s notebook layout and recreate it as a scrapbook layout. Check out my process for both of those layouts here!

I was inspired to take a scrapbook layout, a sketch actually from Paper Issues, and create both! This is the sketch I was inspired by.

Paper Issues Scrapbook Sketch | Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

So in my video today I am creating a scrapbook  layout AND a traveler’s notebook layout for you! I am using Pink Paislee’s Summer Lights collection and it is GORGEOUS! Let’s take a look at the scrapbook layout first.

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

My photo and story are inspired by our recent trip to the NC mountains over the 4th of July weekend. We hiked to Linville Falls, and right as we were leaving to go back to our car, I turned around and saw this gorgeous view of the summer sun peeking through the foliage over the water. It was an amazing photo, and Pink Paislee’s Summer Lights collection seemed perfect for it.

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

I began the layout with white Bazzill card stock and quickly added paint splotches and splatters around the page where I knew my elements were going. On top of the paint I added my layers of papers, photos, and embellishments.

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

For my title I used the word die cut and added the holographic alphabet to say Summer Lights, simply borrowing from the collection name!

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

What I particularly wanted to accomplish with this challenge was to show us how scrapbook layouts can indeed be recreated into traveler’s notebook layouts, and vice versa. These become quick and easy starting points for really awesome layouts!

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

My traveler’s notebook layout was inspired by this photo of our lillies that have bloomed so gloriously by our mail box. They always bloom late, not until July, compared to other lillies, but as my journaling says, when they do bloom it is amazing!

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

I feel like I channeled all things Lea of ScrapandPlanwithLea for both of these layouts – she loves using sketches for her layouts, and she also always creates more than one layout whenever she is working with a specific set of products at any given time! So just like I began my layout with white background + paints, I repeated the same here. I then layered photos, papers, and embellishments on top.

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

One thing I did different than the sketch here was to add washi tape down the center of my notebook. Sketches are great jumping off points, but it is also totally ok to do something different from your original sketch too!

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

My title for this layout was much more understated, simply using the Gossamer Blue stamp set to create Hello Summer. So very simple and quick. I used the embellishment cluster at the bottom to add my date, and the layout is complete!

Larkindesign Theresa Moxley Summer Scrappy Challenge | Collab with ScrapandPlanwithLea!!!!!

Thanks so much for joining me today on the Summer Scrappy Challenge! Be sure to follow along in the Facebook group and share with us what you create as well! One of the give-aways for this challenge is a place in my upcoming class, beginning July 20, called In My Pocket Memory Keeping. Be sure to check it out!

Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!

Hi guys! I was inspired to use some of my Summer kit from Felicity Jane to create this layout about having dinner out on our back porch with my family. My panoramic photo was the jumping off point, and the Summer kit gave some great journaling prompts.

I have been inspired lately by this kit and the Lens story kits from Ali Edwards, and particularly this idea of documenting what we see as a journaling prompt and as a photography prompt. I love using the pano feature on my iPhone to capture the space around me, especially when our whole family is together like this!

Larkindesign Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!Larkindesign Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!

The Felicity Jane Summer kit was perfect for bringing this layout to life. Lots of pretty colors and the alphabet made a great title, and I always love the florals! I began the layout by painting these floral elements onto my white card stock. Stencil is by Deco Art.

Larkindesign Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!Larkindesign Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!

When I created my title I didn’t want the alphabet to get lost against the white background, so I used this frame and backed it with a tiny bit of the pink solid card stock, and then tucked a few embellishments around it.

Larkindesign Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!Larkindesign Traditional Layout | What I See ft. Felicity Jane Summer!!!!

Above the photo are a few simple paper strips and embellishments. I repeated the strongest pattern, the black and white stripe, both above the photo and at the bottom of the layout to tie the layout all together.

Thanks for joining me today! I hope you will take a few moments this week to take in what is happening around you and capture it!
