Clique Kits July Blog Hop | This Is Me Scrapbook Layout

Hello Lovelies and welcome to this stop on the Clique Kits July Blog Hop! You have arrived here from Nupur Patel and will find the next stop at Kayla Webber. Thanks for playing along!

I have been having so much fun with my July Regatta kit from Clique Kits this month! The collections from Fancy Pants, Kesi’Art, and Carta Bella came together for some really fun summer themed layouts. This is the layout I created for today’s Blog Hop.

I was so much in love with the Amy Tangerine bows that were part of the kit and were also available to purchase in the July Add-ons! So they were my starting point, along with a fun photo I had of myself taken from a recent Instagram Story.I decided to cut a quick cut file using one of the colors of the bows – the mint green/light blue. The cut file is available in my shop for free, if you would like you can download it here.

The cut file has lovely circles that I wanted to highlight and also use as a home base for other embellishments and my journaling. So I have used circle punches to punch two different size circles – the 2″ and the 1 3/4″ punches. The 2″ circles are adhered underneath the cut file to fill in some of the background.

I then layered the smaller circles in different places around the layout, and added bows to some of the intersecting points of the cut file. Then I added my journaling strips plus a few fun dimensional embellishments to those circles as well. For my title I used the glitter alphabet from the May Clique Kit which are from Dear Lizzy. I love when you can pull in products from previous kits to get more mileage from your supplies!

My journaling was created very quickly on a canvas in Photoshop and then printed on matte card stock. I chose to list a few things about myself right now, at almost 45 years old. I actually turn 45 in October, so I did a little tongue in cheek on the title and added the Almost with asterisks. These are the fun things I listed out:

  • crazy talented
  • kicking butt every day
  • self-aware and self-sufficient
  • conscientious and loving parent
  • loves color and pattern
  • not taking crap from anybody
  • believes in magic and the afterlife

50 First Layouts | Stay Magical A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

Hey everyone, today I am sharing a layout that is part of my 50 First Layouts Series! I am using Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful to create this mixed media layout about our kiddos when we were visiting Asheville, NC last year.

Here is a closer look at the full layout.

50 First Layouts | Stay Magical A Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout

I started off with an amazing background using Shimmerz paints – these are the Inklingz in Steely Blue Eyes, Blue Lagoon, and Bahama Mama. You can purchase these paints by clicking here.

I also used a silkscreen from Studio Calico and paints from Heidi Swapp to add some tiny stars and splatters to that background. When that was all dried I layered my flowers on the right hand side. I fussy cut them all out from one of the Dear Lizzy patterned papers, and then once they were adhered to the page I ran my sewing machine over the whole things. Ah the layers!

I’ve also added some stamps from Pinkfresh Studio around the page. It gives the background more dimension and ties it in beautifully with the photo and other elements of the layout.

I popped the title up using pop dots, added a few more embellishments + journaling, and call this one done. I love everything about this layout, how about you?

See you again soon,

Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | My Happy Heart ft. Vicki Boutin All The Good Things!!!!

Hi everyone! I am sooooo excited to share this gorgeous mixed media scrapbook layout with you today! I picked up Vicki Boutin’s All The Good Things collection plus her paints, glitter, and mixed media paper and pulled it all together in this layout. I absolutely love the results and I hope you do too! You can watch my full process video here.

I was so excited to receive my package with All The Good Things and couldn’t wait to try all the new paints and products I had bought! I was really anxious to try the mixed media paper, which has been designed especially to accept paint and other mixed media and not buckle or warp. It worked beautifully for this layout!

My first step in creating this layout was to go ahead and gesso the whole page, even though I don’t think you have to do that to the Vicki Boutin papers. I like to do that just to get warmed up and feel like I am not working on a blank page (yes, weird, I know!). Once I had the gesso down, I used modeling paste to build my background. Notice the floral elements I added to the page, starting at the upper left hand corner and traveling across to the bottom right.

Once I had the floral elements down, it was time to add paint. My favorite part of the creative process is laying down wet paint and then turning the paper to allow the paint to flow. Watching the paint flow into all the crevices and tiny places created by the modeling paste is so cathartic to me! For this layout I allowed the purple to flow to the edges and then worked it around the page for the border. The purple and orange paints also flow across to the individual elements on the page so they are all tied together. I added a bit of teal to each flower, and I also splattered a little to add more depth and dimension to the background.

Once all the paint was down, I added a little glitter mixed with glaze onto the page. I used the text stencil from Vicki, not necessarily to have a noticeable text, but just to have a way to put the glitter down in small places near the embellishment clusters. For me, the painted floral elements become home bases for my embellishment clusters, and the gold glitter adds more texture.

Another awesome part of creating this layout was adding the die cut embellishments. The All The Good Things collection ties in beautifully with the paint colors, so I chose elements with purple, orange, and green, plus I added a little pink and yellow. I absolutely LOVE using color, all the colors (!!!) in my layouts!

The last thing my layout needed was a bit of journaling and a title. The glitter foam words describe my expression in the photo, and the emotion I wanted this layout to convey perfectly! I also stamped my date using a roller stamp, and wrote my journaling with the help of a few stamped lines.

What an awesome layout to create and I hope you enjoyed watching the process! Have you tried the new Vicki Boutin products? I’d love to see! Thanks for following along today, see you soon!

New In The Shop: You Are My Star Silhouette Cut File

Hi everyone, it is Freebie Friday here today and that means a new cut file, called You Are My Star! This is a print and cut file, so if you are able to print 12×12 you can print this out and then have your cutting machine cut it out for you. Click on the image below to download the product.

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

Here is the layout I created with this file. I was inspired by a photo of Alan and myself as we were getting ready to drive to a mini vacation!

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

My plan for this cut file was to have just parts of the stars fold over so the background paper could peek through. I chose this coral color, which contrasts beautifully against the navy Dear Lizzy specialty paper. All the products used in this layout are from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection, with the exception of the wood veneer stars, which are Studio Calico.

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

I layered my photo onto other patterned papers from the collection and then added little bits and bobs around the photo as well. The hot air balloons in particular carried a particular feeling I wanted this layout to convey: we were going away for a few days without the kids and so it really did feel like we were wild and free!

Larkindesign You Are My Star Print and Cut File

I used a chipboard title Wild & Free, which is layered onto the black and white florals that I hand cut from the patterned papers.

Such a fun little cut file! You can watch my process video for the layout here:

I hope you enjoyed seeing this layout come together! Now go download the file and make something! Be sure to use #larkindesigntm if you share online, so I can see!

Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

Hi lovelies! Today I am sharing this lovely layout about bad Mondays – do you have them?! I did this week and oh boy, it set me back a bit. So I settled in to practice a bit of creative self care. In this layout I am working with Paige Evans brand new collection called Turn the Page and the Triangle cut file from Paper Issues!

Here is a look at the completed layout:

There are so many yummy things about this layout, so let’s start with the cut file from Paper Issues. I love the triangles and I wanted to cut the 2×2 papers to fit behind the cut file.

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

I used my Studio Calico paints to create a really subtle background, and you can just see it peeking out behind my title work. Paint is one of my favorite ways to practice creative self care: moving the brush around the page is so very satisfying to me!

Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!Larkindesign Mixed Media Layout | Monday Monday ft. Paige Evans Turn the Page!!!

My title began with the days of the week wood words from Freckled Fawn and I have borrowed the words of Monday Monday, a song by The Mamas and The Papas. I know, can’t you just hear it in your head now? The rest of the title is made using the alphabet from Turn the Page. My journaling fit perfectly in between the lines here.

At the top of the page I added just a tiny banner from the 2×2 paper pad. This establishes the boundary of the layout here, so your eye knows exactly where this layout ends.

I am so glad you joined me today! This was a fun layout and a great way to practice creative self care during a really rough week. See you soon!
