Bermuda Honeymoon Album | ft. Paislee Press Aloha!

Hello Lovelies! Today I am hopping back into our Bermuda Honeymoon album for a wonderful layout I created using the Paislee Press Aloha kit. Have a look at the process video here.

For this layout I am still working on photos from our day at the St. David’s Lighthouse, and the Aloha kit make documenting these photos so easy and quick. Here is a look at the full layout.

The Aloha kit has a variety of digital elements that were just incredibly fun to incorporate into my layout. There are journaling cards, digital elements, and traveler’s notebook papers. I was drawn to the greens in the kit so I printed out lots of elements that tied in that color.

Of course I also needed journaling space, and the Aloha kit provides excellent opportunities for that. One of the great stories about this adventure was how much I don’t really love heights, but I climbed all the stairs, popped my head out of the door at the top, and then climbed right back down. Mission accomplished. Ha!

The handwritten patterned paper and the wood grain were both patterned papers that I printed just to use as cards. I resized them a bit so more of the pattern would show on the card, and then layered a few elements on top. The glitter palm fronds are from Crate Paper, the triangle word art from Studio Calico.

This title card was fun to create, I’ve used a neutral patterned background paper and then word art to create visual interest on the card. Wander where the WIFI is weak is from the Aloha kit, Let’s Go from Crate Paper, and triangle Studio Calico again.

The cards in this layout create such movement across the layout and it makes me so happy to see! There were so many beautiful photos from that adventure. Don’t be afraid to include as many photos as you like in your albums. You will be so glad you did!

Thank you for joining me today! If you love the Aloha kit as much as I do, you can grab it at The Lilypad via this link here: Paislee Press Aloha Kit.

Project Life 2013 Week 09 | ft. Sahlin Studio Simplify

Hello Lovelies! Today I have a layout from my 2013 Project Life album to share with you. I created this layout using the Sahlin Studio Simplify digital collection, which is an easy favorite of mine! Have a look at my process video here.

Here is a look at the full layout.

This particular week was all about karate for the boys, who had testing, and the girls, who had a Father/Daughter dance at our church. I pulled the teal, red and black from the kit and repeated those in my embellishments.

I always begin with the date card, because I already know what will go on it. The 3×4 cards in this kit offer lots of opportunities for journaling, so I only added my dates and a word strip to this card.

I had some older heart shaped puffy stickers in my stash, from Seven Paper Company, and I loved using those up here. The transparency floral is from Freckled Fawn.

The girls are so adorable, and they were so excited to go dance with Alan! The word strips are from the Simplify kit.

The second page came together so easily, as they always do when using the Sahlin Studio kits!

Notice how I grouped the karate photos together, and then balanced out the non-karate photos by placing those on the edges of the layout. This is cohesive design that helps bring together seemingly unrelated things.

I still love including everyday moments in this album. Our cooking looks different now as we are in a different home with different stove and we eat different foods now. Love having this documented.

Sometimes when working with years old photos, it can be challenging to remember specifics about the week, so I love pulling out an element in the photo and journaling about how that element makes me feel. In the photo of Nick he is smiling so big and you can see his connection to his karate instructor. He is excited to kick his board and earn his next belt! So my journaling is about precisely how that photo makes me feel.

Thank you so much for joining me today! See you again soon!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Hello Lovelies, today I am sharing this hybrid layout featuring the Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine digital kit. This is my layout for Week 16 in my 2018 Project Life album. If you’d like to see all my layouts and videos for 2018 Project Life, check it out here.

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

In our Hybrid Scrappers Facebook group this week we talked about one of my favorite tips for getting layouts done and using up supplies: use your favorites first. I talk about this a whole lot in both In My Pocket classes and pretty much any time I talk about supplies. For this week’s challenge we were to grab the most recent kit, collection, or product that arrived and use it in a layout. For me, the digital kit from Sahlin Studio called The Everyday Routine arrived so I was able to use it for this layout here.

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Whenever I receive a digital kit, I always open the kit on my computer and just look at all the files that are included in the kit. I take a few minutes to get a feel for the kit, think about what layout I want to use it with, and select my favorites. I open my favorites in Photoshop and print them out right away! If I already know what layout I am putting it with then of course I already know how many journal cards I need. I keep 4×6 matte card stock next to my printer so this part of the process goes quickly. For printable elements I place my favorites onto a 4×6 canvas in Photoshop and also print, then cut with scissors. Typically I will print any kind of labels, word strips, circles, and florals from a digital kit!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Once the kit is printed, and the photos are printed, then I pull just a few simple embellishments to add to my layout. For the embellishments I choose based on color, so for this layout I pulled navy and orange/yellow. This keeps the selection process fairly quick and simple and makes the actual creative process so very easy. Notice how for this layout, I added my dates using an alphabet stamp from Dear Lizzy and a roller date stamp.

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

Our stories for this week were mostly about preparing the yard for summer. We rented the giant aerator you see in the photo above so we could aerate and fertilize our grass. This was a monumental task but we did it like champs! We also did plant shopping so we could plant a few things and we got those put in the ground as well. The photo below is a tongue in cheek spoof on the Grant Wood painting called American Gothic. We were in the Home Depot and needed a rake, and I totally set up the camera in the middle of the rack so we could take the shot. I printed it in black and white so it would be more authentic. Ha. I love our sense of humor!

We also did a little shopping at the mall. While we were in the Charming Charlie’s I turned around to see the kids all piled up on this bench together, playing their games and chatting and just being so cool. I love these guys so much!

Hybrid 2018 Project Life Week 16 | ft. Sahlin Studio The Everyday Routine!!

When printing digital products I also like to just print a patterned paper, but if I am working in pocket pages I don’t print the entire 12×12 paper. You can open up the paper in Photoshop and tell it to print just a 4×6 piece of that paper, to conserve your ink.

I also filmed my process, which can be viewed here.

Thank you so much for joining me today! See you again soon!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

Hello lovelies, today I am sharing Part B from my layout for Week 14 in my 2018 Project Life album. I started this layout last week and split it into two parts since it has an insert. This is a hybrid Project Life layout, and I am continuing to use The Lilypad Wander collection from the June Memory Pockets Monthly kit. If you would like to see all the layouts I have published in this album, you may follow this link here. Have a look at my layout!

Here is a look at the first part of this layout, which included our Easter photos. You will find more information about this layout and the process video here.

I absolutely love scrapbooking travel photos, and this trip had so many really good photo opportunities. Choosing the photos I wanted to include was a bit of a challenge, but I always ask myself what are the photos that convey the stories I want to tell about myself and my family? The answer for me has always come back to relationships, so I look for the photos that show the ways we share relationships with each other. Our trip to Savannah was short, but the highlights were definitely going to the beach and visiting the Children’s Museum.

I currently have all of my recent collections from Crate Paper on my desk as I am working on the Bermuda album, so I have pulled from those collections to add my embellishments for this layout.

This photo of our boys tells an awesome story for me. I know that, at ages 13 and 14, they are outgrown the children’s areas and activities that we did for so many years. But they enjoyed walking around this museum and played with some of the life-size games and had such a good time. This is a favorite photo because they are such awesome friends, these two, and I also love the perspective of seeing how tall they are getting now, and how grown up.

I left my photos mostly untouched, allowing them to tell the stories in their own right. I am just here to tell you that with the kids getting so big, Alan and I are definitely outnumbered and we may need some help over here with these teenagers!

Just a few thoughts about my color choices on this layout: The photos themselves had a lot of greens, blues, and reds (coral), so I have pulled those colors from the Wander collection. The pink/coral/red contrasts beautifully with the blues and happen to be my favorites. It was really easy to use this collection and I am loving how it works!

I have done a lot with circles on this layout, and then for my journal card I broke that tradition by writing my journaling around the edges of the card.

I filmed my process for this layout, which you can view here as well.

These are definitely two favorite layouts and I am so glad to have this trip documented in a really simple, quick and beautiful way! Thank you for joining me today!

Hybrid Project Life 2017 Week 36 | Using Sahlin Studio You & Me Digital Kit

Hi everyone, today I am sharing a lovely layout from my 2017 Project Life album for Week 36. I am using a kit from Sahlin Studio called You & Me and I just adore how it turned out. Follow my process here.

This is my completed layout for Week 36 in my 2017 Project Life. Our stories include welcoming fall, with cooler weather and a big clean-up around the house. We put down new pine straw in the flower beds. The boys played lots of video games, although that isn’t anything unusual (ha!)

The title card for this layout was so much fun to put together. I’ve used my favorite card from the Me & You kit and a set of alphabet stickers from Freckled Fawn to mark our transition into fall. I’ve also created a confetti pocket with confetti from an older Dear Lizzy collection. The pocket is sealed with the Fuse tool.

There were some really awesome round elements in the Me & You kit, which I printed on vellum and punched out so they could be layered on top of photos. To print on vellum I just look for a printable vellum at any local office supply store and print on Draft setting.

I love documenting what we do around the house and yard each year, and love that this album becomes a great home for these photos. This week we were getting the flower beds ready for winter, mainly just cleaning out and cutting back and putting down new pine straw. It’s something that Alan and I enjoy doing together, and for that I am so thankful!

We also undertook a major cleaning project inside – cleaning the floors and rugs. This photo is an awesome capture. Notice how I took the journaling card from Me & You and added my handwriting + a few stamps. The stamps are from the Felicity Jane Autumn kit, and they are perfect for this layout.

My date card was so easy to pull together, with the calendar card and a simple date stamp. This is the Heidi Swapp roller date stamp and I’ve also added a simple puffy heart from Elle’s Studio.
