December Daily 2018 In A Travelers Notebook | Days 05 & 06

Larkindesign December Daily 2018 In A Travelers Notebook | Days 05 & 06

Hello Lovelies! Today I am sharing my Days 05 & 06 in my December Travelers Notebook! I will be sharing Days 03 & 04 very soon with you, as they are part of design team work I am submitting, so look for those days very soon. Of course you can find all of my videos from this project in the December Daily 2018 category. Check out my process video for today’s layouts here.

Day 05 was a somewhat frustrating day where nothing seemed to go right and it would have been easy to beat myself up and quite honestly hate on myself for not being perfect. And then my son missed his bus to get to his match for Academic League and I had the opportunity to show him extra love and compassion. I was reminded how we all need to show ourselves that same compassion when we mess up, and when things happen that are beyond our control. I began this page with one of the Larkindesign Travelers Notebook Photo Templates, which you are welcome to download here for your own projects for free!

These templates make it so easy to type in your story, add a quick photo, and print. I actually used a photo from a few weeks ago, because the day was so crazy there was not much opportunity to take any photos. This is part of making the project work for you, right? Focus on the story and find a photo that supports your story well.

This layout had the star vellum transparency, which I believe is available at Michael’s or AC Moore. I love the back side which is white on white, so I added the number 5 in white on top. That number is from the Ali Edwards 2017 December Daily product offerings. I also added a tiny gold puffy star from Crate Paper Merry Days. The branch and tiny stars at the top of the photo repeat a tiny bit of gold on the layout. When you turn the vellum to the next page, the stars are gold, and the patterned paper is black on white from Merry Days as well. I have layered a Santa on top of the snowglobe/cloche puffy sticker. I love him so much!

Larkindesign December Daily 2018 In A Travelers Notebook | Days 05 & 06Day 06 was super quick and super simple. This is the center of my notebook so I used a full page photo and added a few digital elements before printing. One of the things in our family that brings me incredible joy is the relationship our two boys have. Nick and Addison are the best of friends and thin the world of each other. It always makes my heart skip a bit when I see them walking into their school together, chatting about all the things teenage boys chat about. So I snapped this photo quickly before leaving the drop off lane. I added my text in Photoshop along with the number six from the Sahlin Studio December Days No 04. The word strips are from Home For The Holidays. Once I adhered the layout into the notebook, I remembered I had some white stars from Ali Edwards, so I added those and the layout was complete.

Hybrid Scrapbooking 2018 Project Life Week 22&23

Hello Lovelies, today I am sharing a Project Life process video from my 2018 album for Weeks 22 and 23! This is a hybrid layout using the Sahlin Studio You Are Here digital collection. You can see my process video here.

This layout was part of a two page spread with an insert, and I found there actually weren’t so many photos for this week. So in the end it all worked out great.

The Sahlin Studio collections always allow lots of room for journaling, and that means there is also space for some fun filler cards along the way. I created a title card with the Here & There card and made it a summer edition with a wood veneer piece from Crate Paper.

Nick’s birthday was the 4th of June. He is now 14 years old, so his birthday celebrations aren’t big parties like it used to be. He simply wanted to play video games, have cake and presents, and have his girlfriend present. I kept the layout simple as well, with just a fun photo of him with his girlfriend playing video games. These two have been best of friends for a really long time, three years now, and it’s fun to see them hang out together.

I have always talked about how products can help us tell our stories, and the Routine Photorounds do an excellent job. Summer days are quiet for us when all the kids are gone, so we spend a lot of time working on those days. Simple word art helps me tell that story here.

Typed journaling is so much fun, even if you aren’t the best at using a vintage typewriter! I love mixing fonts with handwriting and typewritten words and it all tells a story of a quiet but meaningful summer time.

Thanks so much for joining me today! See you again soon!

Hybrid Project Life | 2013 Week 12 ft. Sahlin Studio Flashback!

Hello Lovelies! Today I am sharing this awesome and fun layout in my 2013 Project Life album! I have used the Sahlin Studio Flashback digital collection. You can view my process video here.

Our stories for this week included a sick day for two kids, a fun trip to the Lego outlet, and of course playing with the new Lego kits they got. Simple, but such special memories!

As always, I began  my layout with the title card. For this card I stamped the date and used alphabet stickers for the week number.

I have had some questions about how I am remembering what to journal for this album, since it is five years ago. Full disclosure: I have short term memory loss so I actually don’t remember what happens from day to day. I absolutely accept this about myself, and so I have chosen to make my journaling manageable for me.

Tip One: Use your photos as your jumping off point.

Photos have an amazing power and always serve as the starting point for Project Life layouts! So use your photos to help you remember stories about that week. You would be amazed at how many stories one photo can bring to your mind. Practice this at home: Take a random photo and write down the first five memories that one photo makes you think of.

Tip Two: Write about your feelings.

Remember how writing can be about Facts and Feelings? This is a great place to talk about the feelings those photos evoke for you. You can write about your feelings today, or your feelings back when it happened. You can write about how your feelings have changed, if that is the case.

Let me share details about the right hand side of the page with you.

Tip Three: Write about what you know and remember from that time.

For example, 2013 for us was a particularly busy year because I know we were doing sports and all four kids in elementary school and life was hectic. But the kids had new Lego sets this week and it inspired me to pause a moment and take photos of them playing together. That became the focus of my journaling on this layout.

Tip Four: Use product to help tell your story.

Always remember that scrapbooking products are fantastic ways to help us journal. The wooden heart veneer card with puffy heart stickers tells us how much I love these children, these photos, and this time in our lives. Stickers and stamps with word art can help us convey feelings about our layout and our photos, and they do the work for us. Titles and word strips help tell the stories we want to tell and help us share what we are trying to say.

Tip Five: Always remember that the sum = more than the parts.

All of the written words, plus the beautiful products and the layout all together adds up to tell the entire story about the week. Sometimes we put this expectation on ourselves that if it isn’t a long story, then maybe it’s not good enough. But when you look at your layout overall, you can see how everything all together adds up to tell the beautiful stories we want to tell, and to convey the feelings we want to convey.

I hope all of these tips are helpful to you! Remember to keep journaling simple and from the heart. I promise every word, no matter how short or lengthy, is important and amazing! See you again soon!

Project Life 2018 Week 26 | ft. Sahlin Studio Snapshot Photo Templates

Hello Lovelies! Today I am sharing a layout from my 2018 Project Life album for Week 26. This is a hybrid scrapbooking layout using the Sahlin Studio Shine Bright digital kit and Snapshots Photo Templates. You can view the process video here.

Here is a look at my full layout for this week. Our stories included seeing Addison and Emberlynn off to Florida for a few weeks, a fun game of Putt-Putt, and getting nails and toes done.

For the right hand side I have lots of journaling and a few really fun, sunny photos. The bright photos inspired me to use the Shine Bright kit so my colors are turquoise with happy pops of yellow!

I love this photo of Natalie and myself sticking our tongues out and just overall being silly. I have added a few tiny embellishments from Freckled Fawn. Notice how I split the tag and used it to embellish a journal card above.

Addison and Emberlynn visit their relatives in Florida for the summer, so I had to capture one more photo before they left. These photos in front of the front door are so iconic and capture their growth throughout the year!

The right hand side of the layout begins with the date card for the week, which is from the Sahlin Studio Week cards. And yes, there is a second, more silly photo of the kids on the front porch!

The Snapshots photo templates are a great way to tie these two photos together. I added two tiny enamel hearts as well.

I had less journaling on this side, so I have used a few filler cards with just a couple of tiny embellishments added. The word strips below are digital elements in the Shine Bright kit that were printed and cut.

Thank you for joining me today! See you again soon!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

Hello lovelies, today I am sharing Part B from my layout for Week 14 in my 2018 Project Life album. I started this layout last week and split it into two parts since it has an insert. This is a hybrid Project Life layout, and I am continuing to use The Lilypad Wander collection from the June Memory Pockets Monthly kit. If you would like to see all the layouts I have published in this album, you may follow this link here. Have a look at my layout!

Here is a look at the first part of this layout, which included our Easter photos. You will find more information about this layout and the process video here.

2018 Hybrid Project Life Week 14A ft. The Lilypad MPM Wander June Kit

I absolutely love scrapbooking travel photos, and this trip had so many really good photo opportunities. Choosing the photos I wanted to include was a bit of a challenge, but I always ask myself what are the photos that convey the stories I want to tell about myself and my family? The answer for me has always come back to relationships, so I look for the photos that show the ways we share relationships with each other. Our trip to Savannah was short, but the highlights were definitely going to the beach and visiting the Children’s Museum.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

I currently have all of my recent collections from Crate Paper on my desk as I am working on the Bermuda album, so I have pulled from those collections to add my embellishments for this layout.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

This photo of our boys tells an awesome story for me. I know that, at ages 13 and 14, they are outgrown the children’s areas and activities that we did for so many years. But they enjoyed walking around this museum and played with some of the life-size games and had such a good time. This is a favorite photo because they are such awesome friends, these two, and I also love the perspective of seeing how tall they are getting now, and how grown up.

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

I left my photos mostly untouched, allowing them to tell the stories in their own right. I am just here to tell you that with the kids getting so big, Alan and I are definitely outnumbered and we may need some help over here with these teenagers!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

Just a few thoughts about my color choices on this layout: The photos themselves had a lot of greens, blues, and reds (coral), so I have pulled those colors from the Wander collection. The pink/coral/red contrasts beautifully with the blues and happen to be my favorites. It was really easy to use this collection and I am loving how it works!

Project Life 2018 Week 14 Part B | Travel Layout From Savannah!

I have done a lot with circles on this layout, and then for my journal card I broke that tradition by writing my journaling around the edges of the card.

I filmed my process for this layout, which you can view here as well.

These are definitely two favorite layouts and I am so glad to have this trip documented in a really simple, quick and beautiful way! Thank you for joining me today!
