Hi everyone. I’m so excited to share my project with you today!!! I had the 2018 Calendar cards sitting on my desk and I was trying to decide what to do with them when I noticed my Heidi Swap Memorydex on my desk. All of a sudden I was struck with a really cool idea. Wouldn’t it be fun to create a desk calendar?!? Um, yep. That!

I began by making a cover card using this gorgeous floral design and some foam thickers to write out 2018. I also used a gold wreath from Crate Paper to highlight the year. I made the floral card my own by adding some black splatters. After that I used the Heidi Swapp Memorydex punch to punch out the holes.

I love how the splatters added a little contrast on the card. I added some black splatters to some of the other cards too.

I also decided this would be a great opportunity for me to use my huge stash of scraps. I trimmed down a ton of scraps into 4×4 pieces or smaller and used the punch to punch holes. These scraps will be great for making notes and writing down phone numbers and reminders. I am perpetually using scraps and post it notes at work – why not use pretty scraps of paper.

I also used my scraps to create little calendar cards with the 2018 Calendar Cards from Larkindesign. I made one for each month.

They were actually really easy to make when I got going because I made them all relatively the same way. I cut 6×6 paper’s into 4×4.5 cards, attached a circle tab, and added little strips of punched bordered papers.

I finished the cards off by using thickers to write out the months. I then added some Freckled Fawn chipboard stars just for fun. I love the way all 12 of the cards worked out.

I love all the fun details and how the scraps came together well. The truth is that it doesn’t match really well but I like the eclectic  look of all the scraps and how perfectly they went with the 2018 Calendar cards.

I also used a few of the Larkindesign Out With the Old digital cards for some added details. For example, on the January card I cut out the Happy New Year and added that. I love the way it coordinates with the calendar.

While I had all the supplies out, I also created a few other divider cards – notes, remember and to do. I’m so excited by the way this project came together and how it’s going to look on my desk. I love that I can use it for scraps and as a calendar.

{December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

Hi there and welcome to December 11 in my 2016 December Daily! I actually included two stories for this day – I know, I know, only choose one story, they say, but one story really isn’t complete without the back story. So have a look at my process here:

This is how my layout looked as a foundation page:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

And here is my completed layout, including the back of the insert from December 10:

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11 In Which I Actually Have Two Stories!

The first story goes a little something like this: Since Alan returned from Germany we have been running and running. On our way to Target for the third time in three days, he commented how he had been to so many stores and he listed out all the things we had done! I really got to thinking that this had to be included in today’s layout, so I created this to adhere to the back of my insert.

To create this side of the insert, I opened the December Stories 6×8 template No. 2, which is available as a Photoshop PSD here: Ali Edwards shop. (Link opens in a new window) Since my canvas size is 4.5×9, I added another text box at the bottom to accommodate my journaling beneath the photo. I also added the green wood tree from Target and the deer head clip from Freckled Fawn.

To complete the layout, I also added photos of Addison and Natalie decorating the tree itself. It seriously took us three days (!!!) to get to the point where we could add the ornaments, so that is exactly what we did at 8:15 last night.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 11

My foundation pages for this layout were created using Tori Bissell’s beautiful collection of journaling cards which are available at her blog here: Tori Bissell blog.

The last card includes my final journaling which sort of ties the whole layout together. One of my favorite things every year is bringing out all the ornaments and telling all the stories that go along with those ornaments. There are so many ornaments that are really special to me and that represent some special people in our lives. I love sharing these stories with our children, and I especially love seeing their eyes light up when the familiar things are brought back out.

I am still loving the pops of red across this layout, and to carry it onto this card I simply added my journaling lines in red ink. Here is a look at the layout in the album itself:

I do love this project so much! This is the half-way mark for me, and I am thrilled at the progress being made. I am especially delighted with the memories and the reflections and the laughs I have documented in these pages. Merry December to you!

{December Daily 2016} December 10!

Hello and welcome to December 10 in my 2016 December Daily album! Today I am sharing the story + photos of going to get our Christmas tree, which always is the official start of the season for me. Have a look at my process!

This is how the layout looked when I completed my foundation pages. The products I am using are courtesy of Tori Bissell and can be downloaded (for free!!!) here: Tori Bissell printables.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 10!

This is the layout for the 10th completed!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 10!

I began with this enlarged photo which ended up measuring 9×4.5″. I used the white space for my journaling, added the rubber embellishment from the Paislee Press mini kit, and added a ribbon tab which was from Target last year.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 10!

For the filler card I had created this card using one of the pattern papers included in Tori’s collection, and then layered a transparency over top that came from Pinkfresh Studio Oh Joy. The only thing I did to it here was add a tiny washi strip from Amy Tangerine.

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 10!

My second photo is of our kids while we were making our selection. This photo is one of my traditions – I make a point every year to snap a photo like this so we can compare from year to year. Love this so much!

Larkindesign {December Daily 2016} December 10!

The middle pocket was created during my foundation stage and features a cut up transparency from Ali Edwards. This transparency was a purchase promotion available to the first people who pre-ordered the main kit way back in September. I know some people have been looking for it, and so that is the story behind. After I cut up the transparency, I layered my embellishments on top of the pocket.

See you back here tomorrow!

I couldn’t wait to include her lovely cards in my album, and I chose to add them to my foundation pages for Days 10 and 11.

{December Album 2016} A Really Special Collaboration with Tori Bissell!

My favorite thing about being a hybrid scrapbooker who uses digital elements in physical layouts is the fact that I can print out all the cards, or only print out the ones I want to use. These layerbeautifully with embellishments from Pinkfresh Studio!

{December Album 2016} A Really Special Collaboration with Tori Bissell!

I will share more about how I created the transparency pocket above in a future blog post, but I did want to share that I cut up a transparency into 2×2 squares, divided up the pocket using my Fuse tool, and then I embellished each square on top.

And here is Day 11, which is right beside Day 10 in the album. The tree card is printed on vellum so it would be semi-transparent!

And that is another group of foundation pages ready to go! Stay tuned as I share more of my process, little by little, throughout this month. And be sure to head over to Tori’s blog to grab the freebies! And if you create a layout using her products, be sure to include the hashtag #scrapexplosion so we can see!
