The layout I am sharing today is an event based layout from January of 2012. There were two stories for this layout: Addison’s testing in karate and a Valentine’s Day Father/Daughter dance.
You will notice my photo placement in these layouts: the upper left hand and lower right hand corner pockets are available for journal cards, and the rest are filled with my 4×6 photos. Where I have 3×4 photos I alternate photo/journal card, so the layout is balanced. I almost always follow this formula in my pocket pages.
I decided to work with a Studio Calico kit in this layout, this is the Documenter kit from January 2017, Roman Holiday. I wanted a combination of boy-ish products for the karate photos plus girl-ish products for the dance layouts.
For the 3×4 cards I chose a good balance of journal cards and filler cards. Each of them is layered with all the good stuff – journaling, stamps, and ephemera. The Roman Holiday kit had some great ephemera and they were so easy to layer on top of the journal cards.
For the right hand side I began with a fun title card. I just had to use this floral card and then I layered one of the journal cards over top to provide a home base for the title itself. I also added just a few tiny stamps and a touch of washi tape.
Look how tiny the girls were! I think Natalie was just five and Emberlynn seven. They had the most adorable dresses from a now-out-of-business company called Naartjie and they were so excited to wear them. They definitely felt like princesses that night!
I kept the embellishing to a minimum on this layout, just adding a few ephemera to the photos. The gold foiled journal card stands beautifully on its own.
Lastly a journal card that sums up my personal feelings about their evening together at the dance. Journaling the past can feel like a challenge sometimes, but I always encourage my students in my classroom to journal about their feelings today, whether today is right after the event or years after the event.
