One Little Word 2016

One Little Word 2016 | Shine March and April Catch-up and Check-in!

Hi guys, I decided to divert from my usual Tuesday Project Life videos today so I could spend a little time in my One Little Word project. I am participating in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word class this year and have chosen the word Shine. The goal and purpose of the class and of choosing a word for the year is to choose a word that speaks to me and that helps direct and add meaning to my year. Here is a look at my thought processes and album content in response to the prompts for March and April:

So you might remember back in March the prompt was to create a vision board using magazine images. The idea was to simply choose images and colors and texts that speak to you and that reflect your word, simply what you like. For March in my album I chose to include a photo of my vision board, along with a few reflections. I created a divider from this heart transparency that is from Maggie Holmes’ Shine collection. The month tab is Studio Calico, and the acrylic word is from Gossamer Blue.

I included this photo on this layout simply because of the way the sun was shining into the car and onto my hair that day. I added a chipboard embellishment that is from Ali Edwards’ Cheer Story Kit.

On the back of this month’s layout I added a photo from the beach the day my son got hurt. I wrote some of my reflections from that event, particularly how I saw myself for the first time being the calm and focused one. I also painted a wash background and printed this quote from Pinterest.

For the month of April I chose a white stripe transparency from WeRMemory Keepers laying on its side. The prompt for April was to write questions pertaining to your word and process your word and how it evidences itself in your life. I used filler and journaling cards from the Modern Edition Core Kit to copy my notes down, and then I slid them into the pockets.

The back of this month is several more of my journaling cards and I also realized that the quote card is not the one I originally planned to use, but I think I will keep this one as it is because it still fits.

That is all for this day’s inspiration. I hope you have enjoyed hearing some of my One Little Word experiences and how I am working through that word in my life! See you back here tomorrow for Disney!

One Little Word | Creating a Vision Board

So here it is almost the very end of March, and I have finally completed the March prompt in the One Little Word class for 2016. This class is being taught and hosted by Ali Edwards, and for March the prompt given was to create a vision board. The goal with the vision board is to select miscellaneous images and create a collage. If the images have to do with your word that is awesome, and if not, that is ok too. Here is my process video:

Here is a look at how the vision board turned out:

There are quite a few elements that reflect me and my personality. I love make-up and I love color samples, so I was drawn to the samples and the pops of color.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of coral color I chose for the board, and really happy about that. It is one of the colors I use for my brand, along with turquoise. Those two colors make me very happy.

I love the “inspiration is everywhere” and I added my word with Studio Calico chipboard alphas that are spray painted gold.

One final detail is that I painted the edge with gesso once everything was glued down. This was to unify all the elements and to define the edge of the canvas. So, now on to April!

One Little Word 2016 Making Your Word Visible

Hi there friends! Today I am working with my One Little Word Project and I am also transitioning into another series I want to create, called Design Time! Don’t worry, One Little Word is alive and strong and I will keep going with that and will keep showing you my progress with that. I wanted to create some home decor that would remind me of my word throughout the day, so I decided to make a word banner. Here is my process video showing how this banner came together!

Alright, so I basically just have video to show you today, and tomorrow I have a quick video showing how I put my banner up to decorate the mantle, and I will show more (gorgeous!!) photos then. So be sure to check back tomorrow to see how it goes up, ok?

See you soon,

~Theresa

One Little Word 2016: Shine

Hi there friends and thanks so much for joining me. This is an exciting week here on the blog and on my Youtube channel, because it is the start of some new things. Today I am starting a new series for my One Little Word project! I’m not a fan of resolutions, but I do like choosing one word each year to live by. This year I am also participating in Ali Edwards’ One Little Word class and workshop, so today’s process video is the start of my project.

I wanted to tell you a little about why I chose the word Shine. I realize that some of you are probably new to my blog and new to me, and so it is important to know that I am a trauma survivor. In many ways, I think most of us are trauma survivors, so I don’t count myself as unusual or spectacular in any way. However, in the past I have chosen words for myself that focused on my healing journey. My very first word I chose many years ago was Restoration, and I quickly learned during that year that restoration is rarely exactly like the thing we are restoring! But it was still a great word to help me stay focused on an end goal.

This year I am ready to move beyond just seeing myself as a broken human being. I have learned that even in my worst days, even in the hardest of circumstances, I have done amazing things. I have been so very brave. I have worked so very hard. I have kept believing in myself even when all others around me doubted me. So this year my word needed to be a word that recognizes me as an incredible being, while also continuing to push me forward and onward.

This year many exciting possibilities lie ahead. I am so excited about this blog and this creative endeavor that you are following right along with me. I have wanted to share my creative efforts for a really long time – 12 years to be exact. So I choose the word Shine, not only because I want to Shine personally, but also professionally right here.

I also choose the word Shine because I want to inspire all of us to be our best and do our best. We have been working with our children on what it means to live intentionally – to be intentionally kind, intentionally loving, intentionally cognizant of the world around us. On this blog and on my channel I want to be intentionally focused, creative, working to present quality work with good design. To me, the word Shine encompasses that.

It does more than just encompass the possibility of hard work, it also allows space for recognizing hard work. I know that for me personally, I need to recognize my own accomplishments and my own good work because I already am good. I already am focused. I already am creative. I am good enough today. That deserves some recognition and I need to be able to see it in myself.

I’m so excited about this word, and this project, and this class. I hope you will enjoy following my journey and I look forward to sharing it with you. Now go, do, and create!

See you soon,

~Theresa
