Our stories for this week included a mysterious, but hilarious appearance of the fake moustache, the hats from New Year’s Eve that were still being sported around the house, a refurbished screen door that Alan replaced, and lots of fun time outdoors!

I am really loving the pinks in this collection, so have chosen that color to tie the layout all together! The date card sets the tone for the layout. I have used Doodlebug alphabet stickers and my usual date stamp.

The cards in the Lovin’ the Sun collection are designed to give lots of space for journaling. I always like to use line stamps so my handwriting looks neater – my go-to stamp is the Becky Higgins roller date stamp that included several line types!

Check out Emberlynn – she is so full of life and laughter! I love that the bright happy colors of the collection compliment the joy of life – that is exactly my intention with this kit!

I am so fortunate to have the kind of husband who loves tools and is willing to tackle any project that comes along! We love working together and updating our home, and this particular week we were replacing the storm door on the front of the house. This is the house Alan lived in when we met, and I moved into this house for a few years before we built our home together. I am so thankful for these beautiful photos to remember.

Journaling is a wonderful thing, whether it is something that happened yesterday or many years ago. I loved completing this page because it gave me an opportunity to reflect on how it was when we lived on this cul-de-sac, and the friends we made there. They were friends who loved us and were so happy for us when we found each other, and they welcomed me with open arms when Alan and I moved in together. And when we moved away they cried with us but also rejoiced with us to make a new home. I made sure to include a little of that in my journaling for this layout.

So my take-away for you today is to embrace your journaling whenever you are able to write it, no matter how long ago it was. I think sometimes there is pressure to write everything down today or while “it is still fresh” in your mind, but as always, a photo will jog so many wonderful thoughts for us. And any time you are working on older layouts, think more broadly about the people, places, and things that were all around you so you can include that as well.

One final funny photo here of the dog, Mickey. He is so hilarious, he follows Alan around all the time and if he can’t follow him, he still must know where he is and must watch him at all times. What a cutie!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team | 2013 Project Life Week 02

Hi everyone, today I am sharing this layout I did for the Sahlin Studio Creative Team using the brand new Project Life collection called Boardwalk!!! This is my layout for my 2013 Project Life album for week 02. In this album I am completely redoing an older album – my very first Pocket Page album ever! You can watch my process for this layout here.

Here is a look at my completed layout.

Sahlin Studio Creative Team | 2013 Project Life Week 02

The photos are the jumping off point for my story in this layout: a simple, fun afternoon at our favorite park! These are some of my all-time favorite photos ever, and I had so much fun going back and working with them again. I took this opportunity to reprint my photos with borders, and truly simplified the creative process using simple cards and just a few tiny embellishments. I also add a bit more journaling as well.

My date card is always the place I like to begin, since I already know what goes on the card. For this one I chose the Studio Calico puffy alphas in red to tie in all the colors of the layout: red, yellow, and turquoise.

These photos, now that five years have passed, tell such amazing storied and I am so happy to have them. They invoke such great memories and help us remember how good it was. Addison and Nick still have such an awesome friendship and I love how these photos capture the early days.

What a crazy bunch and I love them and wouldn’t have this any other way!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team | 2013 Project Life Week 02

For the right hand side, I still kept it so very simple. I used a few of the digital elements in the Boardwalk collection, and one simple floral chipboard from Simple Stories. I am loving how refined this layout is looking and feel a lovely sense of ease and comfort in my layouts these days.

One of my favorite ways to include quick journaling is just with small tags on the photos themselves. A few words or a stamped sentiment help to tell our stories on our layouts too!

Sahlin Studio Creative Team | 2013 Project Life Week 02

I typically like to have some sort of floral element in my layouts. The Boardwalk kit didn’t really have any floral journal cards, so I just looked in my stash and had this turquoise chipboard from Simple Stories. It looks awesome layered on the stripe, don’t you think?

The original layout had this journaling, so I copied it word for word here. My commitment in redoing this album is to maintain all the original journaling, whether that means keeping original journal cards, or in this case, copying the words onto a new card. I am absolutely loving the past perspective + present thoughts put together!

Thank you for joining me today! Do you have a project you are considering redoing? Are you redoing a project yourself? I would love to hear from you!

New Project Introduction!!!!! 2013 Project Life Intro Layout!!!

Hello lovelies! I am so excited to begin a brand new project with you! I have decided to go back and completely redo my 2013 Project Life album. I have shared my reasons for redoing this album in my class, In My Pocket Volume 02, so be sure to join me there to hear all about it. I also plan to share layouts here and on my YouTube channel throughout the process as well!

Let’s have a look at the completed layout! I began the layout with a full 12×12 photo that I have printed in 4×6 sections, one at a time. This is an easy way to print large photos when you don’t want to use up your 13×19 size papers.

Larkindesign New Project Introduction!!!!! 2013 Project Life Intro Layout!!!

My story for this layout is all about spending New Year’s Eve at Hollywood Studios and having just an epic evening! I will share more of the story on the next layout, but this was just such an epic way to start the year and this photo is the perfect introduction to this album.

Larkindesign New Project Introduction!!!!! 2013 Project Life Intro Layout!!!

The photo stands alone so beautifully and doesn’t need much embellishing at all, but I always like to add the year and our family initial to my intro layouts. I took two shipping tags and layered elements on top of them. At the bottom of the page is my date, which I created using Thickers.

I have stitched the camera from Freckled Fawn to the tag at the top of the page, and then added a few glitter stars around it as well. This is so simple and quick but powerful!

Thank you for joining me today! If you want to learn more about this project, I encourage you to join me in the classroom over at In My Pocket Volume 02. I have discussed this project at great length and offer deeper insight into this project there! See you soon!
