Hello Lovelies and welcome back to our Disney 2020 Album project! We are traveling through Universal Studios today and meeting Hello Kitty! I have been a Hello Kitty fan since the 80’s and we found the Hello Kitty store pretty quickly in the park. While we were checking things out around the shop, Alan looked up and said, “Look, there’s Hello Kitty doing a meet and greet!” If you’d like to see all the of process videos from this album project, check out this link full of Disney goodness here: Larkindesign Disney 2020 Album. I truly love how being in the parks allows everyone to be a kid again, and meeting Hello Kitty definitely brought out the kid in me! I remember when we lived in Germany in the early 1980’s, there were a couple of shops in Freiburg that sold Sanrio branded things. I loved saving up my allowance to get her stickers and pens! Here is the layout I created to tell all about visiting her shop and meeting her!
I chose the February Memory Pockets Monthly kit from The Lilypad, called Smitten! The fun pinks, pretty floral, and happy bright cards were perfect for this girly-girl layout. I had some fun making the cards work for my layout, so I will be sure to share that with you as we go along.
I began with my title card as always, in the upper left hand corner. I have used this hear card which originally is a 4×4 card in the kit. I printed it by setting the printer to print at 150% scale, which makes the card stretch over the 4×6 photo paper. You lose a little bit of resolution doing this, and so the card printed at about 220ppi, instead of the recommended 300ppi. I think it turned out great! I added the title using Simple Stories Snap! alphabet stickers. I loved taking some photos from around the shop, check out the cute Keropi mugs hanging out in the window!
Of course I needed space for journaling, so I chose a couple of cards that provided that space. This one below incorporated pinks and yellows from the rest of the layout, and I added pink stamped lines to write on. Check out the picture of Alan, he was so happy for me to shop around and he loved taking pictures of me meeting Hello Kitty! I am so lucky to have a husband who just loves hanging out with me, and I’m glad I took this cute photo of him. I added the tab sticker from Simple Stories, and stamped the You Are Serendipity from an Ali Edwards Magic Story stamp set. I also added the puffy heart from Felicity Jane. Those pop up in several places on this layout!
They did so many cute things, melding Hello Kitty with other iconic movie themes from Universal! This ET poster was in the shop and I just fell in love with it so much! I snapped a photo of it so I could have it in my layout. The floral card next to it may be my most favorite card I have ever made in my whole Project Life history. The floral is so luscious, and I had this really old pink and wooden heart from a very old Paige Evans collection – I think it was from Fancy Free. It layered beautifully over the floral, and then I stamped a word sentiment on top. So pretty!
The most fun about meeting these characters is that they are just as happy to see you as you are to see them! Funny story – when we got in line to meet her, everyone else in line had their baby girls to take a photo, and I think I was the only adult who got in line to wait for herself! I chose sequential photos here that show me walking up to her, and then one photo of us both facing the camera. Remember that photos tell the story, and these definitely show the fun we had!
Check this out, they had the most amazing Hello Kitty themed Christmas tree! I enlarged my photo of it to 6×8 and then cut it apart to fit on the right hand side of my layout. I am planning to do this several times throughout the layout, to highlight favorite photos.
The Christmas tree photo is great, but I added just a tiny embellishment cluster at the bottom of the photo so that it would be tied visually to the rest of the page. This cluster is a simple label from Simple Stories with a pink word strip (Amy Tangerine), and a few enamel hearts from Bella Blvd.
The bottom pocket was so much fun to create! I had purchased this little set of sticky notes that were packaged up in this little bus. All the characters show up and I bought this little pack just so I could put it in this layout! I took out the sticky notes so I could actually use them, and then I popped up the front of the bus with some foam tape. I adhered it to the stripe card and slid it right into the pocket! How fun!
Here is the photo of myself and the lovely Hello Kitty! The word strip was chosen quite on purpose, because that is what I told her! I added more of those cute puffy heart stickers as well.
I created one more journal card using a 4×4 card on a 4×6 canvas. For this one, I slid the 4×4 Smitten card to the left of my canvas in Photoshop and printed it to leave the space for my words. I added the lines using some washi tape from my stash, and then called this layout done!
Thank you so much for following along on this fun journey through Universal! I’ll see you again very soon!
