Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout | Life Is Lovely

Hello Lovelies, welcome back! Today I have a fun little accidental mixed media layout to share with you. Do you ever start cleaning up your space, and find some related things that inspire you to create a layout? That is exactly what happened for this page, so check out the process video here. If you’d like to see other mixed media layouts I have created, check out this link here: Larkindesign Mixed Media Layouts.

I had some bits and pieces left over from the Maggie Holmes Sunny Days collection, and while I was getting ready to put them away, I also realized I had these cute little Instax photos that didn’t have a home. They were made for each other! Since I didn’t have a full sheet of patterned paper from the collection, I started with some mixed media paper and set out to create a background.

You know how some people like to smush plastic onto the paper to create a background? Well I like to do that with a second piece of mixed media paper. I started with the Jane Davenport watercolor brushes, and added a bit of water to the colors I chose. I also sprayed a bit of water onto each of the papers, to help the colors move around the page. Once I had applied colors to one sheet, I flipped it over on top of the second sheet and lifted it up in order to have paint on both pages. This allows you to have two backgrounds for the price of one!

Once your paint colors are dry, you can add your other papers and embellishments and photos. I layered some of the pieces of papers I had left over in sort of a collage kind of way, and then placed the photos on top. I love how the patterns show through just a tiny bit. I had a great little spot at the bottom left for my title, and space around here and there for other bits and bobs too.

The vellum stickers from this collection were perfect to add little word bits, and they allow the background to show through as well. I have added quite a few of those word strips on the edges and on the photos themselves. My title is one of the chipboard pieces from the collection as well.

My journaling is just a few sentences right above the title, along with the location. I have also used the chipboard umbrella, sunglasses, pelican, and the swim suit chipboard pieces on the layout. How fun to use those up!

There are so many fun little elements to take in on this page. I do miss the beach so much this year, but it was a lot of fun to revisit this wonderful trip. I am especially happy to have a home for these photos where they belong – on a pretty page in an album!
