Larkindesign Art Journal Volume 04 Layout | Everything You Need

Hello Lovelies and welcome back! It has been a while since I have shared an art journal layout with you, so I am starting a new series that you will see every Wednesday right here. I have been wanting to do something creative that I don’t have to film or have pressure of video, so I will be sharing the step-out instructions here and also in my Instagram Stories! Follow along with me!

For today’s layout I am working in a simple notebook I found at Paper Source, and I have prepped my pages by layering several pages together with matte medium. I then sealed the edges using this fun rainbow washi tape from Studio Calico.

I had this fun grid stamp that I found at Joann’s from Hero Arts. I still love buying wooden stamps, especially ones that can be used as background stamps. I stamped it onto my background not really worrying about whether it stamped consistently or not. This will peek through the additional layers we are going to add.

I am loving the direction this page is taking already! I try to keep a simple formula when doing art journaling: washi tape, a background stamp, a stencil, and some form of watercolor or paint. I layered two bits of patterned paper from Crate Paper. This is actually the B-side of the specialty paper from All Heart, and I adore the texture it brings into this page.

I had this stencil from Martha Stewart and found out that it has a sticky back! I love shopping all the different stencil aisles at craft stores – they are easily accessible and now I know that Martha Stewart’s have sticky back as well. Cool! This helps keep the paint from running underneath the stencil. I grabbed a few of my Distress Paint daubers and dabbed my paint directly onto the page. I then took a baby wipe and smoothed that paint out a bit, blending the colors together a bit and making it overall softer. I also outlined the bird, flowers, and branches with a Staedtler marker to give more definition to those elements on the page.

I then stamped one of my favorite sentiments that I use all the time in our Light The Path workshop: You have everything you need already inside of you. Those alphabet stamps are from Prima and are the perfect size for this notebook. Thank you so much for joining me today! I hope you are inspired to create today.
