Hello Lovelies, today is Wednesday, so come Art Journal With Me! Today I am sharing these quick step out instructions for my art journal layout using rub-ons as my starting place! You can also find these instructions on our Light The Path Instagram Stories each Wednesday, so be sure to catch us there too! Let’s make some art!
As always, I like to begin with a well prepped page, which means layering on gesso over top of a few strips of washi tape on the edges and the gutter of my layout. I like to leave a little bit of the colors showing through the gesso, and that becomes the first layer. Now you don’t have a blank page.
I have had these rub-ons from the Dear Lizzy New Day collection laying around forever, and I thought it would be fun to use those on my page. The rub-ons become the basis for my color palette, so I also chose some paints and a texture paste using the same colors. I put down three clusters of rub-ons to create a visual triangle, and now everything can build on that.
I had some blank spaces now, so I used an older polka dot stamp to add a bit of pink around the layout. This one is so old, it’s from Stampin’ Up and is long retired, but you could use any kind of stencil or stamp here. One thing I learned while in progress was to put the ink on the inside of the stamp, not on the edges. If you put the ink on the edges you get a really harsh edge on your image, you can see my rectangle polka dots on my layout! Ha!
I also added some Shimmerz texture paste using another older stencil I have from my stash. I believe it was designed by France Wisneiwski when she was designing for Gossamer Blue. I loved how the Shimmerz added a bit of, you guessed it, shimmer to the page! A word of caution, it does take a bit of time to dry, even overnight.
For my title I used another stencil from my stash, from Heidi Swapp, that says Just Be Your Beautiful Self. I split it up and put part of the title on one side, and you can see how the paint went over a little. One the right side I hid that with a puffy sticker and then added a few other cute puffies for a bit more dimension on my page. How fun! I hope you are inspired to create today! See you again soon!
